It occurred to me that we could all assist CCP to lighten the load on the database/server etc (not an expert in this area, frankly) by going through our asset lists and deleting (trashing) anything that we either do not need or don't care to transport 30 jumps to the current base of operations.
If every one of us does this, surely there would be some impact ?
Please 'sign' the thread if you intend to carry out some asset trashing in the very near future.

I was using the function about 10 minutes ago to clear my asset list so yes, I think it works.

recycling it would only cause more problems, and also you would have to goto each station to recycle, which was not the intended outcome of this post.

Not sure it would help. As this whole ship rollback thing proved, they have an item graveyard for dead stuff and I doubt it's limited to just ships.

Most MMO's keep a 2 week record for deleted and destroyed items. So 2 weeks from this thread getting on a roll would probably help them.

If I could remote sell a lot of items I could. CCP won't let me.
My items stay. I'll get round to them eventually.

I reckon that a mass deletion of trash items would result, eventually, in a database/server performance increase.

It would be interesting to hear the devs point of view though.

I do this regularly anyway because I can't stand the confused asset list - when I want to find something, I would prefer to only have a few folders to look in. However, in real life there are some people (oddly, usually men), who collect things like Toasters, Vacumn Cleaners and, ugh, cigarette packets (empty ones). I suspet there are probably a few hoarders in Eve with 1/2 million useless items who won't care to trash them. So you are probably preaching to the converted :).
