I've been playing EvE for a little over three weeks now and I CAN'T STOP PLAYING!. I notice more and more of my spare time being consumed by this monstrosity...

I've tried both solo-playing and corp playing with my friends, and I must say that the latter is much more fun, imo.

I've been reading the forums for awhile now, and I want to sum up my opinion on some of the things that have been discussed.

CTD: Only happened twice to me, been playing almost everyday for the last three weeks.

MoO: Killed my Bantam my first week in a single shot, but thankfully left my pod alone. I believe MoO adds needed color to the game altough they could perhaps pod-kill a little less. People can almost always choose not to confront them, enter Mara and Passari at own risk!!.

Factories/Research: Haven't spotted a single available slot, but next patch looks like it has a good implementation of a permanent fix.

Bugs: Noticed a lot of minor bugs, but nothing that ruins the EvE experience.

All in All: CCP keep up the good work!.

Have you tried warpipng into a roid field occupied by a few NPC cruisers ? I did twice in my Rifter, both times, when I spawned within range I was attacked by a hail of missiles, no bother my ship is faster and I can always warp out...WRONG! Warping out lags so much, that both times I had to sit and watch my ship being pounded until it was destroyed. I was helpless as I was 'technically' warping. The one time when I was not alone I could not be helped by a corp member with the equipment to boost my shields as it told him I was in warp, yet the NPC had no bother finding me. I'm not a whinging kid, I have no problem losing a ship to pirates, NPC or otherwise, as long as it is fair, missile lag is a major balance issue that CCP need to sort out, It is so frustrating to watch your pod in suspended animation for 2 minutes as the NPC send missiles at your colleague I was only free to actually warp when they stopped shooting. It's made me think of jacking it in, I expected such issues in beta, hell thats what beta was for, but to pay for the 'privalige'...nah!

Scrimnet, you either need a better connection or a better computer..
'

I have NEVER had problems like the ones you say and I have been playing since release.. I played in beta since beta 4 also and I go against up to 8 NPC cruisers at any given time from 2 different computers 2 different isp's either way I still have no problems like you describe..

So I suggest you upgrade your computer or get a better Internet connection before you blame CCP and call this a beta,
If the problems werenĘt on your end then people might be more sympathetic ... but it is on your end ....

Arkadian

I understand what you are saying, and I would agree if I thought this was the case.

I have a P4 2.8GHz, 1GB RAM, Matrox Parhelia and 512 ADSL. I get no problem whatsoever fighting with a whole bunch of cruisers as long as I don't spawn within range. I can happily go in over 20km away and exchange missiles etc., warp in and out at will. But If I spawn within 10km and they ALL start hurling missiles, that is when the fun begins, I hit auto or pick a location from the drop down and warp to and the ship just sits saying warping while being pounded for about 2 mins, the only aid I have is shield booster, obvoiusly nothing else like AB works

Arkadian, you're very wrong. It's not a problem with the client's connection. I have a $70/month Covad aDSL 1.5mbps down/384kbps up connection that gives me a ping of 11ms in Battlefield 1942 on east coast EA servers, and I suffer the same problem. I don't have the absolute latest hardware, but I doubt it's a client-side HW defficiency either.

Ok you guys, I play EvE on a T100 link here and it's still laggy sometimes. I think this is due to the fact that they actually are constantly logging huge amounts af data, need better servers and need to re-write parts of their database connectors to make the game faster.

Scrimnet I'm sorry for your loss I hope I will never experience what you experienced, but I still wished you could have found another thread to start flaming EvE..

I truly love this game, and will probably not stop playing until I have at least a couple of MoO corpses in my hangar!.

Sorry dude, my intention was not to flame your thread, It was the bit about you finding nothing that ruin's the experience that started me off.

If you have only been playing 3 weeks, you obviously weren't in beta. It was a feeling that most had that this game was not quite ready for release May 6th. Right up until the day before there were some major issues and people were pleading with CCP not to 'go-live'. The game simply was not ready, but it did, and we had a free month. We are now paying for it and some of the fundamentals are still now not quite there. Don't get me wrong, I love the game, and although I have not logged on for a few days, as I face an 11 gate jump in my pod to the nearest station and then a 70 gate jump to my nearest home base to pick up a none noob ship from corp hangar, all for something that could have been avoided with a few more weeks beta testing, I'll log back in at the weekend and start collecting my nice kit again, hoping that any new patch will have fixed the probs.

Again, my appologies for hijacking your thread, it's a good game really (one day)

Maybe im just a lucky git, but I run a p4 2.53GH, only 256MB ram and a geforce(something?), i have 2MB broadband, the connection is fast, ive never CTD or experienced major lag, ive never had a blackscreen incident,m I honestly cant see why others with BETTER SYSTMS get all these problems, hell I run XP Home and I get no trouble.

I see where you get a little lag going into a belt while it loads the blt.. but realy that is expected in this type of game ... at least for me

but never has it been to the point where it would make me lost a ship becasue of it.. and I have done it most of the time..

and ive been plaing retail since it came out Ive been playing the game since dec of last year :)

Roid belt loading has nothing to do with your connection. It chugs even on my AMD 2800, 1GIG of PC3200 Ram, Radeon 9700 Pro, you get the idea.

All items in system really need to be cached. Or cached during warp. Also, in dangerous belts, it always HELPS TO warp there in a POD first, and bookmark it so you are further out in hostile belts.

Scrimnet,

here's a tip, and I think the cause of your problem as well. The bookmarking tip works good as well.

if you jump into a "hot" belt, and there's more than you can handle, _never_, _ever_ use the drop down menu to warp out. That by itself, can cost you several seconds just to find a place to warp too.

look at your screen, if you see _anything_ over 150k off, warp to it, or you can see brighter stars, those are usualyl planets or moons in the same system, but more importantly, they are in _front_ of you, and your sip doesn't have to manuver much to warp to it.

You died, when your ship was 'turning" prepareing to warp, and it turns slow as hell, depending on your ship, but if your warp target it directly in front of you, you hit warp, and zing your gone, very little to no wait at all.

if you wanna test this, just try it out anywhere, linup on a warp target, or at least have it invisible in front of you, and warp to it, time it from the time you hit teh warp button, till you actualyl enter warp.
Now do the same thing, with your warp target behind you, big difference in time.

another tip relating to the same thing, if you need to warp, but you have a few seconds, and your target is not in front of you, _Slow down_ first.

higher speed, equals slower turns, you can test that too.

also, don't hide directly in the roids, if you get "stuck" in close proximity to a roid, your dead meat, period.
