Hmm, caracal probably does more damage, although you're limited to 1 missile type. Ferox just has like 3 times the shield and, with BC trained up and a few hardeners, almost assault-ship-like resists.
Come on, what's not to like about 5% per lvl to all shield resist?

The ferox with its shieldres bonis are more the tanker in a pvp group arent they? If you want to do EW go for BB. Thats my personal opinion. _____________________________________ Dead or Alive

this is what ive come up with so far... works in pve but i havnt tested it in pvp... but im gonna test it vs a duramaller to see if i can hold my tank and break his ;)
hi: 5x heavy neuron blaster 2s small nos (yea i know, but it feel better then defenders)
med: 1x 10mn ab II, 1x webber, 1x med shield booster II, 2x harderners
low: 2x PDU 2x CPR
tbh i dont really know what to do with the ferox... pointers are very welcome =)

Ferox can be used as eather overgrown caracal, or overgrown bb. And it does both things quite well actually But soon teh nurf will be here, and the setup will have to adapt. ----------------------

here is my setup,im using it on level 3 missions.
high: 5x launchers + 2 hybrid guns med: shield amplifier+XL-large c5 emergency + 3 hardners low: 4x diagsnostic tech2
with this setup i have 60% resitance to all damage and i can get around 624 shield every 4 sec.and the cap is good enought to run the booster many many times.Never hade any probs with level 3 missions at all.And its a very hard hiter and hard to kill :)

i get why people use lauchers for pvp or inded for npc if u aitn got good skills in guns. but i hunt conquistators (1 mil) using 5 250's 5 of them rip thru alot faster than 5 heavy lauchers. so id use the rails give it a shot may suprise u...

ferox does alittle less damege with the missiles but it has twice shield, armor and structure as the caracal.

first of all - imo its kinda pointless to ask for a "good pvp setup" . i bet there are something like 10 different setups for Ferox for 10 different situations.
also, one thing that caught my eye was that ever1 is fitting heavy launchers. i belive this is not what this ship is ment for. sure, if youre all alone in the space and facing a slow BB, u scramble and missile him to death. but now, lets face some reality - pvp is usually about long-hours gatecamp OR fleetbattles. if youre looking for solo-fun, quit this thread and buy a ceptor.

recently, i have discovered a very special role for my feroxie - know all those ppl who check out gates with their lil' nasty eggs? well.. my Ferox kills any egg in about 0.8 sec from up to 80km :) now this is fun! works on smaller frigs and shuttles aswell..

I got a ferox becasue I thought it would make a nice cheap fleet ship, but atm I'm using it when I want to run a mission. BB is way more useful for a fleet in my opinion and they are nothing to replace.
I have a cruise launcher though which makes it pretty hot against pretty much everyhting Then I use 2 heavy launchers 2 assault launchers 2 dual 150 railguns
med slots I use a med CL5, heat and em deflector screens, a sheild boost amp, and a cap recharger
low slots contain power diags and a reactor control
Offensivly this deals a big load of damage, while defensivly I have no problem wading through l3 missions. In a fleet battle it's tank is worthless but can be run almost non stop and will protect you well from anything smaller than a BC. The mix of weaponry will work against most ships, the only non BS problem I can see are interceptors, but if you are worred about them swap the cap recharger for a webber and fit a med nos or something.

Ferox is a rail gun platform and a shield tanker... simple as pie. I use a 4:3 ratio for the guns since when doing level 4's with my corp mates we sometimes get NPC's in close. Missles don't give a #@!% about tracking. But the rails just outdamage the missles on this ship.
If you want a 5 launcher config, may as well use a caracal. It has the bonus's for missles.
One thing people seem to forget is that a ship like this can toss urainium to 45k with good skills on tech1 guns. Tech 2's just make it reach out even farther with good damage ammo. The cap bonus on the stuff is just gravy on top of it all. On hybrids the +10% optimal range means more than just kiting things.

2x active hardeners -> depends on what faction you're fighting 1x large shield booster II 1x shield boost amplifier 1x medium cap booster -> I usually put some 400's in it, nice for cargo and reload
2x ballistics 1x gyrostabilizer i --> linear flux stabilizer, or something similar ofcourse (d0h!) 1x co-processor
Orbiting the enemy at the optimal range for the railguns(mostly antimatter @ ~20km), and tank the hell out of 'm :) I like to make as much as damage as possible, so that's why there are 3 damage mods in the lows.

Make sure you have the correct damage mod for the 250mm Railguns

anyways, when I tried the setup, i had optR of 25km! that was with anti-matter. I was kinda surprised... and consequently overconfident.
I faced a 1x 110k + 5x 30k spawn from 30-ish km. Pwned the cruiser in seconds. Didn't kill a single of those 5 frigates and they closed in to 1-2k within seconds. Had 9 light drones out to fight them. Needless to say, got webbed, scrambled, pwdned. Lost all named sh1t. I dunno why those 9 light drones didn't kill a single frigate. On my view they were all over it.
oh well... anyone notice the insurance on the Feroxes is bullshti? 24m for max insurance. CCP needs to fix that.

5- medium drones (hammerheads i believe....thermal damage dealing ones....)
taken on serpentis BS spawns with this (Executor [500k Domi] with 3 captains [100k Thoraxes]) took a while for the Executor to go down, but i managed solo.
p.s. lost this puppy to PvP recently, and am using the same setup using non-named variety mods....still effective, but not as nice.....

Med : 1 MWD/AB (if dead space) 1 Med shield booster T2 2 Hardners 1 Web
Low : 3 RCU T2 1 Ballistic
And some drones, no lvl 3 missions would make you scarry whit that.

Just picked up a Ferox in a trade. My gunnery skills are much higher than my missile skills so I think I'll go with 5 hybrids and 2 launchers. I'm just doing level 3 missions along with a friend in a Geddon. What can I do to really step it up with this thing and sort of future-proof it against level 4 missions? Here's my current setup, not complete which is why it looks kind of meager...
HIGH- 3 anode heavy neutron (worst range ever!) loaded with plutonium charges 2 malkuth heavies with thunderbolts loaded
MED-
2 braced multispectral shield hardeners, not sure which specific hardeners to use 1 large shield booster
LOW-
1 Ballistic Control System 2 Magnetic Vortex
Any suggestions for this thing? Should I be using blasters or rails for npc missions? Thanks for the input! |

i use 5 heavy launcher and 2 250mm proto : i use 1 em missile, 2 thermal and 2 kinetic.
250mm proto i use thorium (42km optimal range bc lvl4)
1 ab 10mn II, 2 hardener (em & thermal), 1 amplifier 32.5% kinetic (all shield resistance 66%), 1 med shield booster II
3 PDU, 1 balistic control
easy to mission lvl3 to use this fit
