Resting assured that los fighting in an open universe like EVE wouldnt work till we have at least an order of magnitude (or two...) more server computational power (so we are talking about dreams, not things that CCP can really do...), the biggest gameplay objection (that it make griefing too easy) is mostly avoidable with a couple of changes: A) Add an option: {collateral damage control} {dont shot allies/corps} {dont shot blues} {dont shot neutrals} With this setting your turrets just wont shot while there is something that match the rule between you and your target. B) A little change to aggression rules: Cloaked ships give no aggression when shot, as if you are stupid enough to put your cloaked ship between two fighting ships (so collateral damage control targeting computers cant see you and react accordingly) is your problem, not Concord. This obviously count only for the first hit as it will decloak you and collateral damage rules will engage - if the first hit is enought to destroy your ship, though luck. (can be made more or less ganky by considering only module cloak or also gate cloak covered by this rule)
With this and LOS not only blob wars would become a lot more complex and fun (this will _NOT_ solve the blob, wit just solve the _STUPID_ blob where just firepower and not ability will win), it will be an huge boost to frigate and small ship fighting (well duh, small, fast, nimble ships capable to hide around anything that's there's on the battlefield while hulking battleships cant keep pace) and missile pvp (as guided missiles just dodge around obstacles if they have enough fuel... big boost but this make them slow enough to be targeted and destroyed if the defender is fast on his toes) with just an issue for non-guided missiles (as while its easy to just stop firing with an istant-hitting turret, slow poking torpedos can be allready in flight when an {not shot} obstacle fly in the route so the collateral damage control can just self destruct them, losing ammo).
All this will NOT fix all the possibile exploits, but what fun would be without any exploitable hole to find?

If this were played upon a stage now, I could condemn it as an improbable fiction. |
