Was going to buy two badges in the EVE store for a total sum of 10,55 $ and had the option of either 43$ or 53$ for shipping fees?!?!?!
This is ridiculous! And I know the whole EVE community is aware of this, but my question is; is it possible to either get items sold in the EVE store shipped from CCP HQ in Reykjavfk or just go over there and buy from them? Looking for either someone who has done so or a reply from someone working for CCP.
I've been to CCP HQ on trips a couple of times and seen that they always seem to have some of the EVE store items lying around so was just wondering. If not then I will most definitely not buy those badges.

Almost everything you can buy from e-commerce sites like Amazon goes to Iceland by air mail. That should not cost 40-50$ in normal postal fees. And we are talking about 2x badges here that would fit into an envelope.
edit; Sorry didn't notice that "from" there. Like Blane said the EVE store gets its items shipped from Atlanta AFAIK and the manufacturing certainly doesn't take place in Iceland

I've been down to CCP HQ in Reykjavik as well, saw a bunch of EVE store goodies there but I'm not sure if they were for sale or not. If I were you (and if you're located in Iceland), I'd try giving them a call. ___________

i dont knopw why they take this amount of money for shipping? bought 2 tshirts at jinx and payed 10euros for shipping from the states to germany with standard us postal service(takes about 10 days) and the most ridiculous thing is, if you bought something in the old store in iceland, you got to pay 30euros to germany and customs fee

Yup the store is located in Atlanta. We fly stuff in to Iceland for Fanfest but normally when you buy from the store it is shipped from Atlanta, GA.
As far as shipping goes, those prices are set by FedEx as they are who we ship through.

Consider alternative delivery options then ? I'm pretty sure even just FedEx has more than one type of shipping option, with different prices depending on delivery speed. There are plenty of people completely put off by the S&H prices the EVE-Store offers. You could sell a lot more stuff if the shipping charges wouldn't be so atrocious.

Yes, please find a way to make shipping fees tolerable. I wanted to order a couple of shirts until I saw how much the shipping was going to cost.

The $20 t-shirt I'm wearing costed $60 between shipping and VAT fees to import from England. Basically I paid $80 for it. It's a %#&$ing awesome shirt though. I've had random strangers come up to me and tell me they like it. Totally worth it IMO. It all depends on how much you want those badges.

P.S. I'd say, go with USPS... there's a reason most people selling on e-Bay list it at least as one of the options... here's an example of price quote for delivery from the USA to Romania: Priority Mail« International Small Flat Rate Box* Maximum Value for Contents: $400.00 USPS Supplied Small Box: 8 5/8" x 5 3/8" x 1 5/8". Maximum weight 4 pounds. Delivery : 6 - 10 business days Price : $13.45 ($12.78 if paid online)
You might not understand this, but there are many reasons why very few real companies that do a ton of shipping work exclusively with the USPS for anything other than letters.
You also might not understand this but, some random people on eBay != CCP.

You might not understand this, but every time I order goods from USA to Europe, I request they send it by USPS. In the last 8 years I have lost NONE of my ordered goods through USPS. 3 delivery Failures by Fedex, 1 complete destruction by DHL. Most of the companies I deal with, can send by USPS.

We are adding additional shipping options, including USPS which we should have available very soon.
We've looked into DHL and a number of others and in most cases have gotten even higher quotes. We've spent considerable time trying to look for additional warehousing/shipping/partners options out of europe and have not found anything workable yet. Either we don't do enough volume for some potential partners or logistics and handling costs end up exceeding any savings we could get you. We're still looking for better options there.

Well, I am sure that this is statistically significant and all, with your fractions of a fraction of a percent. But that is not one of the reasons I was talking about.
However, if you really wanted to get into that I have had letters lost and eaten by the post office, including one delivery that was going a mere handful of blocks. But considering that probably accounted for .00000000000001% of letters shipped by the USPS that day, I'm not too worried.

have you considered UPS? Those tend to be fairly reasonable in terms of shipping rate, FedEx is almost extortionate in terms of shipping though. USPS is a good start, which should improve things quite a bit.

ups is awful for normal people, atleast in germany they are total unflexible (for example: if got a ups station in my work town but it impossible for ups to deliver anything to this station, just because it a different deliver district)
for myself ive made good experiences with fedex, when i order stuff from deviantart, ive had to pay 12€ for fedex intl. priority and get the things within 3 working days, whats really nice, but i dont know if they got some special agreements with fedex

Yes please. =) Just checked out shipping to my residence in the states and the cheapest option was $7.46. To ship a tiny keychain. In comparison I can get an entire computer sent to me from newegg for free.

I didn't believe this, so I went to Fedex.com and set up a package to go to Berlin, Germany. A 0.5lb envelope worth $15 USD set for priority delivery (cheapest option) had a shipping price of $54 USD!
Holy crap! Who even signed this contract in the first place?! Surely you could've signed up with a better international carrier from the get-go. Whoever made that decision needs to be either educated a bit more, or just let go.
I used to be in charge of shipping pharmaceuticals world-wide, drugs worth $300 USD and up, fully insured, for barely twice that. Obviously more expensive things and larger things cost lots more, but geez, this is a situation that should never have even developed. |

FedEx can be odd at times. I bought a light bulb from the US for $10 and they wanted $50 for the shipping. I said I was in no rush to get that light bulb so I wouldn't mind paying for a slower shipping method. Sure, they offered to ship it for $10 if I remember correctly.
I got my light bulb 4 months later. ___________

You might not understand this, but my former company shipped exclusively through USPS. We shipped on average 2300lbs (1045.45kg) per month in packages ranging from 1/4 lb (0.11kg) up to 3lbs (1.36kg) and in the 4 years I worked for them in their shipping department, I can confirm personally, only 3 lost packages, 6 late arrivals and 1 package that kinda got run over. When you consider we sent out approx 750-1000 packages a month, over 4 years, that is a very good ratio to damage/lost/late rate. I shipped one package FedEx (personal). It never arrived. EVER. Simply Vanished. I'll NEVER do Business with them again.
Also, unless an item can be shipped to my PO Box, it ain't going to be purchased by me. I don't trust FedEx or UPS to deliver like asked (signed for, and received by a live person that lives AT the residence, do not leave a package on my door step) because they have yet to do as asked and will leave a package on my front porch, even though specifically told not to.
USPS on the other hand, if signature is required, will leave you a nice little note and ask you to come in and get your item. AND they ship to PO Boxes (like mine).

I wne tto Iceland just before Christmas in '04. I knocked on the door of CCP and asked to buy some Quafe (this is when CCP released it as a soft drink). I was told, "sorry, we don't sell it here". I was forlorn, dejected. As I turned away the guy who answered the door went to a massive crate of Quafe that was sat under the stairs and took tow out. He gave them to me and said "Merry Christmas".
I drank them with vodka, so yes, it was merry. |
