Hmm, as unorthodox as it sounds, a Gallente ship with lasers (or as some ppl call them, lazors), might make sense on a Myrm where there is rail or blaster bonus?
What about the use of tracking computers, it extends the range of blasters quite a bit if you stack 2, is it possible to make blasters more of a short/medium range DPS dealer that way, and not just an MWD/Web/Blaster combination?
Lasers on any ship save an Amarr one is usually a bad choice: most ships cannot handle the cap requirements. In addition, as far as sticking other weapons on a ship with blaster bonuses...well, why not just fly the correct ship for that weapon type? And for those ships without such bonuses (Myrmidon, IIRC), autocannons are usually best. However, training Gallente merely to fly an autoMyrm sounds a bit of a waste.
If you really want to fly blasters and have range, you're best off training for the Caldari gunboats (Moa, Rokh, Eagle, Ferox, Harpy). Though often overlooked, their bonuses to range give them more flexibility, their shield tanks allow them more speed, and they can fit more damage mods in the low slots. You just have to understand that you can't expect to fill every medium slot with a shield mod (just as you can't fill every low slot with an armor mod on armor-tanking ships).
If you are dead set on flying Gallente, consider going the path of the drone boats (Vexor, Ishtar, Dominix, etc). The problem with tracking computers is that they take up extremely valuable mid-slots, slots you need for scram, web, MWD, and, if possible, a cap booster (blasters gobble cap). That's also the problem with bringing a second web, though that's certainly a more elegant solution.
As for those who advise you against missiles, that's 2007 thinking. As long as you aren't doing huge 0.0 fleet fights, missiles are possibly superior to other weapons systems (always hit if in range, comparable to superior DPS, no tracking issues). Torp ravens, HAM drakes, and Assault Missile Caracals are all extremely powerful at what they do. - - -
