I have an internal IGB application that uses ships DNA for fleet management/organizational purposes. Now in Tyrannis it is harder to use and people are complaining about it. Basically, all I need is a simple way for the user to give the website his ship's DNA.
1. Why did you remove an option to "Copy Link" from the chat's post box? Users would drag their ship name from the fitting window into the chat box and then copy that link and paste into my application. Now they have to do an extra two steps to open the link as a new tab in IGB, select the ship DNA from address bar and paste into the website.
2. Older version of the IGB allowed websites to capture Drag and Drop events. Why don't you enable this feature with the new browser? This would be an important feature for any decent IGB application, because it would be pleasant and easy to use.
3. Gathering ship's DNA seems rather important to many people. Why don't you finally implement the getShipDNA() JavaScript function?
Thanks, Neo

While this is clearly working as intended - making the UI worse is CCP's priority #1 - I do not understand your issue, either. Just allow your users to paste an entire chat line into your application and let your code extract the ship DNA from that. --

Especially since it is JavaScript, thus noone stopping them from implementing additional warnings notifying user of extraneous data access. -- Thanks CCP for cu |

When you paste your fitting into the chat line it will contain the name of your ship as a hyperlink to ship's DNA, if you copy that link (or the whole chat line) it will only copy the name of your ship.

This is a valid concern. The reason I said "javascript" is because CCP has it under "Desired JS Functions" list on the wiki (http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/IGB_Javascript_Wish_List#Desired_Functions_to_Retrieve_Information). And quite honestly, they could still make it safe as a JavaScript function, because they control the source code for IGB and therefore they could pretty much hardcode the way these functions work in the browser and check permissions there. However an easier approach is to use HTTP header that contains the ship DNA.

If you copy the entire chat line you will get ship name plus fitting, I just checked to make sure this did not change and it works fine. (edit to add: you will need to hit enter on the chat line first of course)
As to your second response which I believe was directed at Tonto in fact, the desired functions list on evelopedia is user desired functions, not CCP desired functions. --

Yeah, if you post it then you can copy from chat. But you used to be able to just copy it from the chat post box. You used to be able to right click on the link to the fitting and choose to "Copy URL". Posting in chat and then copying is extra step and polluting the chat where you are posting. And if 100 people are posting their fittings in chat at the same time it will be hard for them to find their message.
The main point of my post though is that I wish that it was easier to extract pilot's ship DNA given his trust and permission.

Yes, and I entirely agree with that (although it is hopeless). --

Wrong. It's users put these wishes, not CCP. |
