I used to be able to run a second client using the following command:
wine explorer /desktop=EVE2,1152x864 "C:\Program Files\CCP\EVE\e.exe"
However, since either Eve, Wine, or Ubuntu was last updated, the second client simply shows the Tyranis splash screen, then it goes away and I'm left with the blue background of the explorer window. Here is what is written to STDOUT:

Hi m8 read this again and try over ok.

Make 2 Eve.exe starters on your desktop.
First starter is always just :
1e account starter link
wine explorer /desktop=EVE,800x600 "C:\Program Files\CCP\EVE\eve.exe"
The 2e account starter link :
wine explorer /desktop=EVE1,800x600 "C:\Program Files\CCP\EVE\eve.exe"
The 3e account starter link:
wine explorer /desktop=EVE2,800x600 "C:\Program Files\CCP\EVE\eve.exe"
And so on etc etc.
So do not call the 2th starter of your account EVE2 but EVE 1.
And call your 3e account EVE2.
In Dominion the first link was wine explorer /desktop=EVE,800x600........
And the 2e was wine explorer /desktop=EVE2,800x600........
Now the prefix is just in order:
EVE
EVE1
EVE2
EVE3
etc etc etc
Try this and you can open as much clients if you want/have.
And your pref.ini file have to look like this:
bitsCancelled=0
clusterMode=LOCAL
clusterName=LOCALHOST@NODOMAIN
debug=0
decimal=.
digit=,
eulaagreed=0
host=0
inputhost=localhost
languageID=NL

Just copy and past and remove the write rules so it cant be overwriten again.
Than your problem must be solved.

Ah, the bitsCancelled=0 thing again. Well, I must have set it read-write to change some settings and forgot to change it back. But something else is strange. I have 2 settings directories:
CCP\EVE\c_program_files_ccp_eve_tranquility\settings
CCC\EVE\z_home_craig_eve_tranquility\settings
It looks like the game was previously using the Z directory. The cache directory contents there has not changed since March. The C directory is now the one being used.

Try Reinstalling eve. If that doesn't work (after re-installing), try reinstalling your Graphics Drivers.
