Edited by: prayth on 22/06/2010 01:58:05 Hiya,
Issue : When watching flash content (youtube) and opening the map in eve the initial starmap will display for a sec and then the computer will freeze. No mouse/keyboard nothing. The only solution is pwr on/off pc. It is only the map and only when viewing flash content that will cause this.
Just curious if anyone is having issues with this. I noticed it when watching AT8. Opening the map is the only thing that causes this behavior. Might be new since after 4+ years I have never noticed this and I am pretty sure I have watched youtube and opened the map at the same time at least once. (but not sure)
Eve client is in windowed mode at 1024x768. Happens in IE and Firefox. Wiped Flash 10.1 and reinstalled, still same issue. Not a huge deal but wondered if anyone had a fix/ideas.
Graphics : Sapphire 5870 1Gb MBD : ASUS P7P55D i860 Driver: Catalyst 10.6 Adobe Flash : 10.1 Eve Cache cleared
**edit - waited for 10 min for map to load before I reset PC.

i had the same issue. after working with a GM found that disabling catalyst AI in the 3d settings in the catalyst control center fixed the issue. Close eve change the setting reboot then open eve and try the map again. It fixed it for me, but hopefully it will help you too since it was the exact same issue.

Thanks for the response.
Good call on the catalyst AI thing, should have thought of that. However it did not fix the issue.
I did find out the cause. If hardware acceleration is enabled in flash 10.1 it will freeze the PC when opening the eve map.
I believe GPU accelerated flash is new in flash 10.1 and supported by the later catalyst versions and apparently it doesn't like the map in EVE. I would be curious if it is just me or if anyone else with a 5870 (10.6 drivers) and flash 10.1 has this issue. Thanks much.

Exactly the same issue. Disabling catalyst AI and Flash hw acceleration does not fix the issue.
I can even hear the youtube clip continue for some time after the freeze, but computer cannot be shutdown, even remotely.
Also tried the reinstall/update route. Multiple instances of eve run fine, just crashes with youtube/flash running at the same time.
Opening the map *always* crashes it, however undocking/docking can also cause it to crash with flash running. Ruled out audio or anything else. You can see the eve process crash very briefly before it locks up.

Same problem, Windows 7 professional 64bit MSI R5750 1gb Driver 10.6 flash 10.1 Cache cleared. Both eve/flash reinstalled, problem persists. Also it appears to not just be flash, i notice it when watching films also, same thing PC freezes up but audio continues on the playback.

Catalyst AI should always be disabled unless you need more performance.

after more playing i found disabling the catylst ai did nothing.
I have had a bit more luck after uninstall flash 10.1 and installing flash 9. there are some pages that are locked to using only 10.1 and you lose them, but my map works fine now

I've got exactly the same problem like underwoodr, video freezes after opening the map when watching a movie (be it flash or normal). Still haven't found a fix :(.

Same Problem here!!!
Windows7 running on ASUS P5Q Premium Intel Core2Quad Q9400 @ 2.66GHz with ATI Radeon HD5850 Driver 10.6
Machine uses to totaly freeze on map call, either the NumBlock on/off doesnt work then, which is an indicator of stalled hardware.
Its annoying as hell.
Im not able to tell if the problem is related to the flashplayer.

It's not flash, that's the good news. The bad news is it's either eve or atis drivers neither of which we can really check.
Opening the map screen (universe, not solar system) while running flash 10.1 has been locking up pcs since 10.1 beta 1. Betas 1-4 locked this up every time, 5-7 only locked things up sometimes however ati updated the drivers during that period so idk which reduced the problem.
As I said the problem is not flash, it's gpu acceleration. PCs lock up when something gpu accelerated is running at the same time you open the map. Flash is the most common gpu accelerated program most people use, however mpc-hc and vlc (now it supports gpu acceleration with 10.7 drivers) do it too. Interestingly it doesn't happen to everyone, or all the time. Flash for example, in my instance, is much less likely to crash my pc today than it was 6 months ago. Vlc however will lock the pc every time, guaranteed.
Unfortunately the only way this will ever get fixed is if enough people submit bug reports (I know the system is crap, but eve not working is crappier) and ccp actually look at eve. If it isn't even then they can go to ati and tell them to stop breaking their game, but only ccp can sort this. Considering it's been happening since the begining of the year I'd have thought it would have been fixed already though.
10.1-7 w 5770 and gpu accelerated apps have been crashing for me. ***The EVE servers and their patches*** |

hmmm okay so heres a question are ppl experiencing this with GeForce cards aswell?
i noticed this problem at around may
i could play any game for days on end with no problem at all, then load 2 accounts for eve and wham computer would lock up, most of the time i would have WMP and firefox running at the same time
now yesterday i experienced it in World of Tanks
So i took the full step of doing a driver sweep on the display drivers and reinstalling i havent had the time to test if this was the fix but i have fair feeling that it might work ..... also ive been searching the web for similiar problems and most fix's include driversweep and your powermanagement for your HD and NIC ( on windows 7 ), the power management issue is said to be conflict between what win 7 wants your comp to do and what your hardware actually supports
i hope this helps and yes i would like to know if other GeForce users had the same issue's and if they actually found a docummented fix

I've swept my ati drivers, reinstalled eve, cleared caches, reinstalled vlc, reinstalled vlc, reinstalled mpc-hc, used all of the 10.1 betas as well as the current 10.1 flash. My pc still dies :( ***The EVE servers and their patches*** |

yep same problem here, 5850, load the star map with a flash application running and boom, flash freezes, then mouse, then sound then PC.
Im running dual screen with the eve running in window-ed mode does that sound familar?
surely this is quite a crucial bug.

Also have this problem. Had it when using to stream a feed through WMP Windows 7 for OS here. I hit the map button and the system locks up. All stops except the sound. That stops after a couple of seconds and then I have to hit the reset button on my system.
I dont have A.I. active on my ATI card so that cant be it. I think something in the EVE client locks things up. When I dont run the Eve client my pc has never locked up before. Its just this stupid silly thing.
I just cant use my WMP when im playing Eve.

I get exactly the same issue - after testing lots of different combinations of settings the only common elements are flash accelerated content in a web browser running (videos are the best for this as some radio audio-only feeds do not suffer from the bug) and opening the universe map in eve.
The versions for the software i have are: windows 7 64bit, firefox 3.6.8, flash 10.1 (latest release build), ati ccc 10.7 or 10.8 drivers (not tested on earlier versions).

Without Hardware acceleration ? Click on flash content and disable the HW acc. on the first tab.

Edited by: Xarith on 12/09/2010 14:40:02 I'm having the same problem when opening the world map. It seems to be only when youtube videos are playing, even if it's just a picture with audio.
Graphics: ATI 5850 1GB Driver: Catalyst 10.8 Flash: 10.1 OS: Win7 64bit
However, it does stop crashing if I disable hardware accerleration on flash.

Hey,
This issue seems to be caused by GPU-acceleration. I fixed the issue myself by disabling GPU-Acceleration in Flash.
I'd recommend disabling GPU acceleration in your applications. But we'll look into if we can fix it on our end, as it's a very very annoying thing to have happen!

Good to see its being looked in to. Thank you in advance for the effort. I dont open the map much AND play anthing in flash or WMP at the same time but till this is fixed, ill do the work around or just play EVE and not watch youtube at the same time.
