Edited by: Pathagoras on 22/06/2010 03:01:20 Edited by: Pathagoras on 22/06/2010 02:57:47 So I see a lot of recommendations around to fit 7 Railguns on a Mega to run level 4 missions. My problem is: How do you fit all 7 and still have enough powergrid left? I have Advanced Weapons Upgrades to level 4, as well as Engineering to level 5. What am I missing?
Plus, I've been training up my missile skill and was wondering what missile turret would be good for the 8th slot. I do occasionally run level 3s, so should I fit a smaller missile turret for those or am I horrible ignorant of how missiles work?

First a clarification WU lowers the CPU need for guns AWU lowers the PG need for guns
As far as the fitting goes, they could have implants that boost PG, or have AWU5 , aka all level 5 fit. Alot of the fits on BC use all skills at level 5. Perhaps try and fit lower rails, i am guessing you're trying to fit the top large rails, try and fit the weaker ones and see how that goes.

But yeah, that's what I'm trying to figure out: What implants do I need to fit the 425s?

I don't think you can fit the 425's and still get an effective tank for level 4's. I believe the most common is fitting 350's.
The reason alot of people will recomend rails is the fact that it does have a much longer range than rails. The damage isn't great on rails but it should be good enough for missions. Food for thought tho, a corpmate did a mega fit using blasters and having 2x trackers in the mids. 45km could do decent damage up to 60 even, and interchangeable scripts mean that if the enemy gets close you can just swap from range to tracking scrips with ease. This was a navy issue mega tho using some fairly expensive equipment.
But try and fit the 350's instead of the 425's. Shouldn't be a huge difference in dps, and you still get a good range.

Thanks man, I'll look into that tonight. But I still see tons of people who recommend 7 425s on a Mega...Dunno how that works?
Any links to details on the script changing stuff? Although I have 21m SP I've been away so long I may as well be a n00b

use 350's. Don't bother with the launcher in the 8th slot, use a tractor beam. I don't think I would even recommend a mega for lvl 3's, it would probably be more of a pain than anything. get a myrm or something for those.

And 350s are good enough to run 4s? I have a lvl4q20 and I'm a little hesitant to run it by myself (Limited funds make me a puss) unless I know I have the firepower to at least make it easy for me to warp out in a crisis.

Basicly with the scrips is that in the midslots you can fit modules that have interchangeable scrips (can't remember the name now). The scripts works like ammo but does not get used up. You load the script with either tracking or range. You can also change the scrips while out in space like you can with ammo. It's real handy to use.

Edited by: Arazel Chainfire on 22/06/2010 04:04:00 You're problem is probably that you're trying to run 2 LAR 2's. You can't do that with 425's - you might be able to with 350's though.
With the following fit, PG isn't an issue (and it has enough tank if you manage your aggro), but CPU is 3% over
7 425 2's
4 Cap Recharger 2's
1 LAR 2 3 hardener 2's (for serps, I would go 1 active thermal, 1 active kinetic, and 1 eanm) 3 magstab 2's
Rigs 3 CCC
drones to taste
CPU wise, its 3% over, PG wise, it fits with AWU 4 (not with AWU 3 though), and max skills it will do 517 gun dps. 3% CPU is easily fixable with a single implant. However, if you can't currently use t2 guns, dropping it to faction or to meta 4 will free up enough CPU to leave you with no troubles. Other things that can reduce CPU costs is using faction hardeners, or meta 4 cap rechargers.
My perfect fit would be as follows.
7 425 2's
2 Tracking computer 2's (optimal range script with antimatter gives a range of 47+49, tracking script + the mega's tracking bonus is over a 100% boost to tracking) 2 Cap recharger 2's
1 LAR 2 2 Federation navy or imperial navy active hardeners 1 imperial navy EANM 3 federation navy magnetic field stabilizers
3 CCC
Drones to taste
This fit has some spare CPU/PG left. The most important part though is probably the navy active hardeners, each of which save 20 CPU, of which this fit now has 15 to spare. It will actually fit with 1.5 CPU to spare if you have only the navy active hardeners (all else t2) and you drop a tracking computer for a cap recharger 2. Another thing to note is that with either fit, using navy antimatter increases DPS by about 100, which is significant enough in my opinion to be worth it if you are speed running missions.
Hope this advice helps you out.

In my opinion the most important skills for someone starting lvl 4's are light/medium drone skills. As long as you can kill tackling frigs reliably you can always warp out if you run into any problems. A lvl4 Q20 agent would mean you are running in low sec/0.0 right? I would not suggest this unless you know exactly what you're doing. Other players are much more dangerous than mission rats.
