If you remember that Exodus, and Castor, have been FREE expansions to Eve then maybe you'll stop whining about 15 minutes of downtime.
So, be quiet. Child.

If you think you can do a better job, go find yourself a datacentre to host a box, get a copy of Visual Studio, and STFU.

The expansion was free. Think the occasional downtimes such a patch brings could be bearable with this perspective.

Check out the server status on Eve-i.com. In the last year, the servers have been unavailable for a total of 19d and 10m, thats an average of 75 minutes per day. Take off the hour per day of DT, and on average the servers have been unavailable an extra 15m per day more than CCP have said they should be. 15m in 23 hours means CCP has managed a 98.9% serever up time over the last year. Now allow for the fact that in that time we have had Castor upgrade, Exodus upgrade and at least 2 server downs which I can remember weren't CCP's fault, and I would say they are doing a pretty good job of it. I can also remember CCP giving at least once and maybe twice in that time a free day to every player because the servers were down.
At $14.95 per month, over the last year, a 98.9% uptime means that at most you have missed out on $1.97 worth of playing time.
So, to anyone who thinks 98.9% uptime for an online game isn't good enough, I have 3 things to say a) Get a life b) Get real c) STFU
Drahcir
with the current ú to $ exchange rate that $1.97 is looking real tastey

As I have stated numerous times before, whenever there is significant amounts of downtime, like after the Castor deployment last year or early summer this year after the hardware deployment, CCP internally discusses whether to push back the billing cycle by 1 day. It is not a decision made lightly, as the cost to CCP is rather hefty compared to the return the players get.

They compensated me enough by handing back 2 cyclones I lost. I bought them when they first came out (Eager to try them first) at 40mil each. I lost them due to bugs ect and now I log on and I find them in my hanger. I almost wanted to shed a tear! Well not really... Even though CCP has a overload of stuff going on, they do try to make it better. So umm yeah go home...

You could also make an ingame present such as an event eve wide, if CCP still has an event team. __________________________

Yeah, gimme my 25 cents back for the time I couldn't play...
(Did I detect a little sarcasm there? Naaa)

Edited by: Cornelius Murphy on 15/12/2004 21:11:18 Edited by: Cornelius Murphy on 15/12/2004 21:11:05 I think someone said earlier in this thread "I demand compensation for reading this thread", and I have to agree.
The team at CCP, and also the ISD guys do a damned good job, and I for one want to say thanks. Yes it is annoying when the servers are down, but if your life revolves around this game, you need to get out more. Real life isnt just a low slot item that you can install if you want it, it's there and you have to get on with it.
To sum up, and to steal a well used phrase already.... GO HOME

How about for every hour of downtime, everyone who petitions for compensation receives...
a cheque for $0.25 - $1.50 cheque processing fee --------------------------- = a bill for $1.25
Giving away money isn't free. ...um, something like that.

I have to agree with this post. DT just plain sucks, especially if your only chance to play/change skills and the server is down.
I do like the idea of training at double speed during DT. This costs CCP nothing and the players get a bonus for DT. Everybody wins.
The complaint about this doesn't make sense to me. If the server is down, EVERYBODY is training at double speed, so nobody loses.

We get one day and CCP gets less $. I think it's a bad deal for all of us

That's not true. The poor sods that forgot to set a skill for training or didn't check that their skill won't finish during DT will loose at double speed. The worse thing on that is that they couldn't do anything about it at that time. So during DT they'd loose 2hrs of skill training, not one like they'd normally would do, sucks tbh.
