Okay amarr can only do em and thermal damage. does this mean that in pvp someone can just tank up both and never get killed by an amarr ship

No one knows that they will be facing exclusively laser boats, so no.
Amarr is not at a disadvantage for PvP, lasers are still amazing (perhaps not as amazing as ACs, but that's the roll of the CCP nerf-bat dice ). ____________

Edited by: Annie Anomie on 27/06/2010 07:33:18 In FW you can sort of count on seeing a lot of ships of a particular race (so for example T1 shield tanks in min FW were actually bad because of all the harbingers and I get shot at by a tonne of drakes) but you're never certain enough to just tank up two damage types.

...or how Hybrid guns only do Kinetic/Thermal damage. But wait, those are almost never used....

Your starting asumption is wrong.
Amarr can do all types of damage, if you focus your tank solely on EM/TH resisits you are going to get chewed up by an arbitator/curse/pilgrim/Sac/auto proph etc etc.
I suppose this must be my sig. I'll do something cool with it eventually. |

The big difference is that the hybrid boats (ie. Gallente) all have sizeable drone bays and ample bandwidth so their damage types are not nearly as restrictive.
@OP: If you encounter a gang with lots of Zealots, Armageddons, Abaddons (ie. the gun boats) then a single EM hardener will effectively double your EHP as scorch seems to be all the rage .. If the enemy has a mixed race fleet then tanking against what appears to be majority of damage has some merit but does not guarantee success .. there is always a curve-ball waiting to be thrown in ones face

Nope.
Damage types in pvp are not that important.

Well obviously they would be if you tanked for em/thermal damage. You could pretty much do this for anything though...

Err, sure. But so would any other race. Even projectile or missile users if you know your target and the meta-game trends well enough.
