Edited by: Herr Wilkus on 28/06/2010 07:33:23 Edited by: Herr Wilkus on 28/06/2010 07:32:28 I've always thought that mining looks like easy money - and it looks like it is the express train to easy street once you get a Hulk. Now, the months of training are done and its time to cash in...
So, I'm looking for a good Hulk fit that maximizes profit and cargo-space. Not going to risky low-sec, so Concord will be there to protect me - but I'll get a Faction/Deadspace Booster just to be on the safe.
So, optimized fits! Post them here!
Off the top of my head for raking in fat sacks of ore, without an Orca.
High Sec Max-Profit HULK 3x Mod-Strips + Crystals. 1x Roid scanner 1x Gisti-B Small Booster 2x Cap Recharger II
2x Cargo Expander II
2x Med Cargo Rig II
If I'm worried about attacks I can always put another Gisti Booster on there instead of the scanner.

Lieber Herr Wilkus,
you should really rethink your 'mining in high-sec' is easy money attitude
Please read Akita T's marvellous Beginner's guide to * MAKING ISK * in EVE-Online. Also your pitty Gisti Booster will not help you in the upcomming Hulkageddon III event. It will even make you a more worthy target.

Are you trying to test fits, or get people to admit to having weak fits that will be just that much more easy to alpha strike? I think the latter, since a few months ago you were vigorously arguing that CCP should make it easier to highsec gank pilots. What's the matter, griefing loose all its entertainment value? Trolls? In my EVE forums? It's more likely than you think... |

Edited by: Herr Wilkus on 28/06/2010 07:31:28 OK...so...special HG III fit.
High-Sec Max Profit HULK
3x Mod-strips 3x Small Gisti-B Boosters (for extra triple condom protection) 1x Cap Recharger II
2x Cargo Expander II
2x Med Cargo Rig II
Think that should do it... Which minerals are best to mine these days anyway? Veld, Scordite or Plag?

As for what's best to mine: http://ore.cerlestes.de/index.html#site:ore
And as others have said, rethink if you believe mining is the path to riches. And as others have said, definitely rethink if you believe you can out-tank hulkageddon - fit your tank sufficient to hold off belt rats (and natural shield regen would probably do that), your "tank" against hulkageddon is watching local and being at your keyboard.

"Cargo expanders" and "max profit" do not go along well with eachother. Also, faction fitting is just asking for someone to gank you. Just find yourself a quiet, cozy system. You can get those not even far from a tradehub.
My recommendation is tech 2 strips with crystals, 2x tech 2 mining laser upgrades (2x 9%!) and two region specific shield resistance amplifiers. A survey scanner I is fine for its 15km range matches unbonused strip miners, if you have a field enhancement ganglink, fit a tech 2. If you're out for only Scordite for example, I'd pick a 0.8+ and whip out Mining Drone IIs as well.
Now you're almost done with your CPU unless you have Mining Laser Upgrades at level V instead of IV, you can then either fit another named shield resistance amplifier or a civilian shield booster, which is enough to tank any hisec spawn and it doesn't strain your capacitor.
Put whatever suits you in the rig slots, except mining drone rigs, they are too big of a penalty on CPU. More shield stuff or cargohold optimizations but 8,000 cubic metres are really just fine.

Maximizing cargo space and profit just doesn't work. They work against each other, so I'll post a max-profit fit for any of the real non-macro miners (oh, and it's cheap...)
HIGHS: 3x T2 Strip miners w/ T2 crystals
MIDS: 1x T2 rock scanner (or good named), 1x Small Clarity Ward Booster (this mod will really help everything with fitting), 1x Eutectic I Capacitor Charge Array (or what fits), 1x Basic Magnetic Scattering Amplifier (can be swapped out for a Civilian Shield Booster based on skills)
LOWS: 2x T2 Mining Laser Upgrades
RIGS: Medium Drone Mining Augmentor II's (all)
DRONES: 5x T2 Mining Drones (best decision), 5x Harvester Mining Drones (they work best but only for very close range rocks), or 5x Elite Mining Drones (you probably won't find these) ... add on what combat drones you can after that for defense (a few lights maybe, but really, doesn't matter if you get into real trouble [hulkageddon]...)
Aggro any rats in the belt first with your ship. Once you have aggro, you can safely launch mining drones and just shield-tank the rat damage with your hulk while your drones happily mine. Just watch for ratters who warp in and kill the npc's because the next group of npc's that shows up WILL target your drones first.
This will tank any .5 and up npc rat group. If you get caught in a hulkageddon, you're done anyway, so don't bother with any officer mods.

So, if I am looking to fit a faction/deadspace/officer mod onto my Hulk - what would be the best? I personally think a pimped out Hulk would be awesome.
Lets see some ideas for useful hi-value mods for Hulks....maybe others could benefit from this discussion as well.

For highsec mining depends if have hauler or not best with hauler for faction/officer fit only use in 0.0 in highsec just makes you a juicy gank target in 0.0 you need it to tank rats max ehp in hulk is only around 15k ehp which can be instapopped by any gank squad and some solo ships for fits all use highs 3 t2 mod strips with crystals
mids highsec rat specific resist amps or hardeners lows cargo expanders or mining upgrades as for the estamel fit where will you be I can use them on my rorqual

You want a "Hulkageddon III" proof fit?
Here is one that is guaranteed. Let them try and pop THIS.
Have a hauler and a salvage ship on standby so you can loot and salvage their wrecks after they die trying to scratch your paint.

Oh yeah, max tears, don't know why I didn't think of that earlier. Trolls? In my EVE forums? It's more likely than you think... |

Actually, I always use Gisti Small Boosters on my Hulks. They aren't too expensive...and the extra protection makes it quite easy to survive suicide ganks, where cheaper boosters just don't cut it.
I love it when a ganker shows up and tries to blast me, but my Gisti booster saves me and he gets Concorded and I laugh. Best part is that you can perma-run it and when you get back, the only evidence of the failed gank is a Concord party.
Hey, if you spend 150+ Million on a Hulk, you need to protect that investment, so scrimping on defensive mods is a bad choice.

Gisti-B is one of the most popular 'elite' Hulk mods, because it can be permarun and often foils the gankers.
The ORE strip miners are expensive but they massively increase your yield returns and pay off very quickly.
Also, the best low slot mods are COSMOS "Archiver" Cargohold Expanders: They give you MORE EHP and higher velocity than T2. I always use these on my Hulks...every little bit helps.

Thats right - I forgot about those COSMOS Cargo expanders - they give you both more EHP AND more speed over the T2 variants. I'm going to have to buy a few of them off contracts right now....
