CCP has given out 100k bonus SP today for their 24 hour DT fiasco. While this might seem awesome to you (and it is) it's not so hot for new players if you don't know what you're doing. These 100k skill points will count towards the 1.6mill SP double training speed limit if you're still under 1.6million SP. For the most effective use of your SP wait until after you've used up all 1.6 million SP of the double training speed bonus before you allocate the bonus 100k otherwise you're just gimping yourself out of 100k sp of double training speed time.

Good catch.
Sadly, a lot of new players may not read here and get this message. I'm cranking open my capsuleer app right now to see where I want to allocate my points!

Also remember this is skill points, not skill training time. Apply them to whatever you know you need to train, but would normally train slowest, not just to whatever you are currently training. _________________________ Join Channel 'Mentors' for PVP and PVE help and advice ingame without changing corps. Exactly.
So if you're all specced up with Perception and Willpower for those gunery skills and training them at 3000 SP/hr, you're going to save yourself about 1.5 days by applying the skills points there.
If you've gimped your charisma to the point where you'd be training leadership skills at 1500 SP/hour, applying your skills points here will save you almost 3 DAYS (or twice as much as your fastest skills).
So apply your points to your SLOWEST, but still useful, skills.

As a note, the game warns the player if the player attempts to use the unallocated SP while under the 1.6M limit. So anyone with reading comprehension will not make the mistake the OP warns about.

Do all characters on the same account get the SP bonus?
I have a green message on the skill queue tab, but how do I allocate them? If only one character per account gets them, that would explain it. The char I've been looking at isn't the one who got the ship.

The character with the highest amount of SPs gets the bonus.

I wasn't aware of this at the time, good that ccp through of it. They tend not to be so noob friendly in my experience.

Not quite sure I get this... Instantly gaining 100k SP is a heck of a lot faster than half the normal time. And way faster still than normal time. Seems like a good thing to do as long as you are waiting for skill X so that you can do Y.

Idea is that once you're out of 2x time you spend the points thus saving your self a lot more training time then you would if you just used those points right now (with 2x speed).

The character with the highest amount of SPs gets the bonus.
However you can petition them to have those points moved to another character.
So - it's:
1) only one of your potential three characters that gets the skill points (as theoretically it would only be the character that was training during the outage that would have been effected (I suppose)).
2) The default character is the one with the most points.
3) If you want those points assigned to another character you can petition it.
4) These points do not expire (like access to the gift ship does) so you can wait to use them.

Wow, that's actually pretty generous of CCP. Tell ya what, this grinch's heart may not have grown a full three sizes but if any of the Dev's are reading this...

Just stop training, then right click any skill that you want to assign the free skill points to. A window will pop-up giving you a choice how much of the skill points you want to allocate to the skill you just r-clicked.

They do not and will not expire. However, if your account was not active on the day of that extended downtime, your account will not have received the bonus skill points. If your account was active, the skill points were given to the character on that account with the most skill points. If you want to skill points to be applied to a different character you will need to file a petition.
