When I look at Primae I cant help but imagine things that COULD HAVE BEEN, then I remember its current stats, and I feel a bit of subtle trolling from CCP.
To all the people saying "look, its free, so deal with it" - yes, I like free things too, and I'm happy on some level. But for some reason, when I look at that ship, instead of free stuff I see a huge wasted potential.
Think about it. Its an entirely new ship model, it could have been used to fill a number of roles that are still left open in this game. Think of the work it took to design this ship. My point is, its not yet another free shuttle that people don't use anyway, this is ( or rather was ) a perfect candidate to fill any of the following designs:
1) Dedicated exploration/science ship. Yes, something OTHER than a cov ops, that can actually fit a decent number of hacking / archeology tools, and wouldn't require swapping on said modules every time you find a site.
2) A gas mining vessel. I mean really, how long are we gonna keep fitting execurors/canes/domis for what they weren't built for? God forbid we even get a 5% per level bonus to gas harvesting. And this is an ORE ship, too.
3) A loot/salvage vessel. CCP were considering it, they even felt the need to mention this in that dev blog and then in the end leave us with nothing (hence my comment about trolling). Was it really that hard to give this ship 8 high slots, out of which 4 are turret slots, and maybe a 500-600 cargo hold space? Maybe they were concerned that such a ship would unbalance the fragile destroyer market ( they need to have some role left as well, right?).
4) An actually useful PI hauler. Another troll from CCP, Primae inst anywhere near a 'specialized planetary interaction ship'. They could have either made an industrial that is at least in SOME ways better than current t1's, but is specifically geared for PI. Maybe the ship could be used to reduce the import/export tax? Other option is hauler optimized for low sec / 0.0 operations, something other than the 70m blockade runners.
5) A T3 strategic industrial ship. Of course that fact its made by ORE fits it perfectly, and the model design looks like it can easily be made modular. It could have combined all of the above mentioned roles withing one hull. It sounds a lot mroe useful to me than a T3 frigate ( cant thing of any ideas for frigates that havent been done yet)
6) A T2 ship of some kind, that does something, I dunno exactly what, but I bet there are a bunch of uses possible for a t2 ORE industrial ship (though we need to have T1 version first). One option is something to ease operations in low sec and 0.0, with a large variety of possible bonuses/slot layouts.
And a few other options that I cba to continue listing....The point is, this was a perfect ship model for this, you wouldn't have to reuse any of the existing t1/t2 hulls , didn't have to make 4 different ships for each empire.
tl;dr - Many possibilities, good model design, very poor execution. Rant over
