Tengu Advantages: - Convenience (3 bil ISK fit, but damn if it isn't convenient!) - Travel Time (~10 seconds per warp, useful in the mission itself during Recon 2/3, Recon 3/3)
CNR Advantages: - More Raw DPS - Real Damage Type Selection
Mostly irrelevant differences: - Price. There is a price difference (in the Tengu's favor) as long as you're willing to take a pretty massive hit to the Tengu's convenience and tank. You could make a similar sacrifice for the CNR and use an 800K ISK named booster, but really the Tengu/CNR and all modules associated with them are investments. You buy, you sell back later - potentially for more, potentially for less. Ex: I could sell my Tengu for a half bil loss and I could sell my CNR for a gain 200-300 mil gain. My CN/DG crap I could sell for massive profit (but lose the utility of having it).
I'll state it again: In my mission running hanger at my mission running hub, I have a Golem, a CNR, and a Tengu and I use all three. Coincidentally, I have a massive stack of T2/faction stuff and a whole bunch of other ships that I've used for comparison mission running.
But, if you can have only one, it should almost certainly be a CNR unless you have some unreasonable aversion to battleships - because the Tengu doesn't average out better. It barely keeps pace in Kin weak missions (I'll accept the "~5% worse" though I know it to be false), and gets completely trounced the first time you face a Drone/Sansha/Blood/Merc/Angel mission without immense gate distances.
I want to be clear: I've never said the Tengu doesn't have a place - I've said that it's not the most efficient choice. And I've repeatedly stated that the most efficient choice is to have them all. :)

Ed: I was just thinking about my hanger. Holy. ****. That's a lot of ISK sitting around. Why am I grinding missions instead of selling this **** and buying GTCs for the next 5 years?!?
I fly CNR, Golem and tengu and have had a Tengu nearly since they were launched. Pretty max skilled for them all. I just cant see anything wrong with this statement. If I had only ever to fly one ship in pve it would definitely be the CNR. I fly in Caldari and Amarr space, and would not take the Tengu near Amarr
