Time for a bit of a whine. Why is it that missiles have to lose so much DPS in missions when turret ships are uneffected by defender missiles. Its crap when your losing DPS to defender missiles. No one uses these except for NPC's. It already takes longer for missiles to hit their target, Removing half the DPS before they reach is wrong. CCP remove these stupid things.

Why is it that turrets have to lose so much DPS in missions when missile ships are unaffected by tracking disruptors? àor by tracking to begin with? àor by short/long range target mixes? ——— “If you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡… you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.” — Karath Piki |

Defender missiles aren't that big of a dps killer.
I mean I only see 3-4 missiles being killed over the course of shooting a BS, and the closer you are the less it happens.
Sometimes I don't even see the defenders work even from a good distance.

The Defender missiles occupy a space to where they are the only one of their kind (Forgive my lack of knowledge on missiles) that can perform that task, so I imagine there would be someone that used them. I've never really used missiles or likened them to running missions; I would much rather use a Megathron or an Apocalypse/Abaddon. As long as the mission is completable though it should be ok.
Did you know that the Defender I missile uses the same skin as the Sabretooth Light Missile?

I have Defender Missiles level 4 and use them in missions where there's a large spam of Torpedos and Cruise Missiles being shot from the NPC's. They seem to work better with high skill level and knocking out half of those Torps/Cruise missiles is better than knocking out none.
If the NPC's are shooting Defender Missiles at your missiles, isn't that better than having them shoot Torps/Cruise Missiles at you?
Personally, I'd like to see a T2 version of Defenders and FoF Missiles placed into the game.

I just fly up close to 0 m and fire my missiles, no defender problems!

No, I'd rather they shoot torps/cruise at me, it's npcs, they do nothing in the end, lol. And how would you kill any rats if you load defenders instead of real missiles?

"If the NPC's are shooting Defender Missiles at your missiles, isn't that better than having them shoot Torps/Cruise Missiles at you?"
the only problem with that line of reasoning is the fact that NPC BS's frequently have 2 torp launchers, 2 rails, 2 cruise missiles, 2 artillery pieces and 2 defenders, even on ships like ravens that only have 6 slots
also their torps hit at 200km
so no, there is no upside to your NPC opponents having defenders. Also with the last patch defenders work even if you're 1km away, which is brand new. I'm not in favor of them being removed but it is pretty blatant how buffed they are for NPCs vs how they work for players

Good thing the NPC's don't do even remotely close DPS to podpilots or all mission runners would be ganked on warp in.

Turrets are immune to defenders, but missiles can switch to FoF ammo and are immune to target jamming. It's balanced.

You lose dps on like 1 out of every couple salvos in my experience. Not too bad imo. Recently trained a fleet rokh up, oddly enough no pos ops so tested her on some rats. Tracking, ammo games as the ranges changes so not throwing expensive ammo down range hitting for crap dps casue way outside optimals...defenders are not that bad lol.

Torps are "immune" to defender missiles.

Raven have 8 high slots, 6 missile hardpoints 4 gun hardpoints so they caon yse your suggested configuration.
Defenders are a counter to missiles, like tracking disruptors are a counter to guns.
Missile users have the added option to use FOF missiles when jammed by ECM, something that gun users can't do. So missiles are still the best generalist weapon in missions.

Funny, always gotta be a few who twist things around.
I use the Defenders as well as FoF missiles in Hvy Launchers on my Arty Shield Tank Hurricane whenever needed. In the AE bonus room having the Defenders in the two T2 Heavy Launchers gives just enough help to the defensive tank while the six T2 720mm Artys and T2 drones take out the NPC's.
I don't use Defenders or FoF missiles all the time, only when needed.
It seems you all didn't read the part about "Torp/Cruise Missile SPAM"

Why can turrets miss completely when missiles can't? Why does missile training involve less sp than turret training? Why are missiles still superior to turrets in most pve encounters?
