I know the common line is "Minmatar ships require better skilling", but in what ways? I mean, they seem to have a main offensive weapon (projectiles), a 'secondary' (missiles), and tank in one way (shield tank), right? Just like any other race -- Caldari are Missiles, Hybrids, shield tanking respectively, Gallente are Hybrids, Drones, Armor tanking... I know it's not that cut and dry, but it seems to be a common element.
So, if that's the case, what's with the thread topic being such a common claim?

Caldari and Gallente usually focus on Missles or Drones or Rails, so they really only train one weapon type. Minmatar are a more even split so they really need to train both evenly.

Some minmatar ships armor tank, some shield tank, some swing both ways. Typhoon can use bonused missiles, projectiles or even both and has a very nice sizeable drone bay. Basically if you skill to use most minmatar ships of the line cross training to any another races ships takes minimal effort.
Also the falloff range increase skill (trajectory analysis, very useful for autocannons) is a rank 5 skill, whereas the optimal range increase skill (sharpshooter, very useful for lasers) is only a rank 2 skill. Meaning it takes over double the amount of time to train it to the same level. |

Edited by: RobinAnne on 03/07/2010 01:39:14 Depending on the minmatar ship it may be an armor or a shield tank. Some, like a hurricane can go either way and be perfectly fine.
And I disagree with the second person who posted. A good pilot needs good gunnery and drone skills no matter what the race.
Being a minmatar pilot does not require additional skilling really if you don't want to be able to tank both.

There are other factors as weel. Minmatar weaposn and bonuses meant they have the lowest dps when at lower skills.
For example.. Tempest at level 2 skill is much further from its full dps potential then a megatron , not only because rof bonus increases at different slope than damage bonus, but its a DOUBLE bonus).. and whiel that the APOC have exact same dps as at level 5 (altough with other limitations).
Since damage is VERY important for the player perception of effectiveness. Minmatar takes the most time to FEEL powerful.
