Hi I have 5 planets set up for making Wetware Mainframes, but I think Im doing something wrong as my 4 planets doing tier 2 production just arent producing enough to keep up with the tier 3 production on the planet i have with the hi-tech plant.
If anyone can help with advice specific to wetware production, screenshots, skills required etc it would be a great help, as Im getting frustrated at having 5 planets and not being able to make it work.
Am i wrong to be extracting AND making the tier 2 products on 4 of the planets? or should i be using extractors only and making the tier 2 and 3 items on my barren planet where i have my hi-tech plant?
currently i am making tier 2 stuff on 4 planets - 1 lava, 2 gas and 1 temperate
the 5th planet (barren) houses my hi tech plant along with 6 advanced plants in 3 pairs making supercomputers, biotech research reports, and cryoprotectant solution, to feed the hi-tech plant.
help meeee! please!

Well, first thing: - The location of the planets. If they are in high sec you are going to be challenged to find any location with decent extraction rates. - Extraction rates. Are there sufficient extractors, collectively set at a sufficient extraction rate per hour to supply the Basics producing the P1 items?
Second thing is skills related: - When scanning for resources, use a cloaked ship if you must but be as close to the planet as possible. Results DO vary with distance. - Planetology & Adv. Planetology DO improve your ability to drop those extractors on the best portions of the best planetary hot spots

Edited by: Plecostomus Gibbiceps on 04/07/2010 01:11:36 ok thanks or the tip about being close to the planet to scan - wasnt aware of that, as i assumed because i trained all 5 skills i would be able to scan from anywhere in the system.
And yes they are in high sec :(
Even worse i think i have messed up in how to set the extraction going as for each tier 2 item i have 1 extractor per each of the 2 basic factories that feed the advanced factory for that item :( im guessing thats nowhere near enough
which means im going to have to train for better command centres so i can install more facilities on each planet... Im guessing in hi-sec that will require lvl 5's across the board..
but looking on the bright side - as I completely FFFF'd up the setup of those 4 planets... I at least wont be crying at losing all the facilities when i upgrade the CC's

You need 72 basic processors to keep 36 Advanced processors to keep 6 advanced processors to keep 1 High-Tech processor busy.
My Wetware factory planets are. Super Computer + Wetware Mainframe:
Cryoprotectant Solution:
Biotech Research Reports:
And 20ish extractor/p1 farms:
And a bonus catchup-get-ahead factory:

Edited by: Plecostomus Gibbiceps on 04/07/2010 02:03:22 thanks drox man those screenshots help a lot
would it be possible to tell me the numbers in the chain of extractors to basic processors, to advanced processors for each product on each of your planets?
i would try and decipher it myself, but im guessing you havent showed your full range of extractors, surely youre not getting all the T1 stuff from just one planet??

Your extractor to basic processor ratio will depend on your extraction rate and your extraction activation tolerance.
It takes 144,000 units of raw material to run a basic processor 24/7. So divide out the total for the run into that to figure out how many it takes. Then work out how many of each you can fit on a planet. The magic number you're looking for is 48k/23h run for a decent planet, but you can make due with mid 30s and you may have to settle for 25k for Non-CS Crystals.
In lowsec rates, it is taking me 20 colonies on 6 planets to get enough supply with spare room. I expected to be able to do it in 15 planets in a wormhole but decided the sales logistics would be harder. This is not a trivial P4 to make.
For how much of what you need, work it out from the chart on http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1325077
