Edited by: Cygwin Gaad on 13/07/2010 00:01:21 Edited by: Cygwin Gaad on 12/07/2010 23:59:54 Years back i was informed that you can actually shoot the hauler NPCs that undock from stations and not get wtfpwnd by concorde. however the station guns open up on you but only if the hauler was from their station (and you lose some standing with the corp who 'owns' the npc but waa waa).
so they undock, and motor towards another station and 150kms out disappear, to reappear outside another station 150kms out and motor inwards. it is entirely safe to shoot incoming hauler NPCs.
and they would drop NPC items. which has got me thinking, they now drop PI items which are suddenly more valuable. so i did an experiment last night but the hauler left the station. flew 150kms and then turned around and flew back. puzzled i watched other stations but this was the only one to spawn npcs. I shot one and understandably the station guns vaporised my frigate.
im going to investigate some more and post my findings but has anyone else been hijacking NPC station haulers recently?
Edit: spelling. -

Fail post is fail, but it got me thinking.
Taking the gun stats from here and my limited knowledge of highsec (there are 6 guns to a station in highsec right?) you could just get a setup that will survive against that many guns and plug away at the haulers as they undock (or on their way out or something).
Assuming im right about the 6 guns, this hyperion fit (they are cheap now I hear) should sit under the guns until you run out of cap boosters. There are 3 whole mid slots to do what you want with and im pretty sure 8 large blasters (even if they are electrons) is enough to kill them.

Oh yeah, and you can always pop out a few small drones and let the guns cycle on to them if you need a short break.

This is part of their "buildup" The ships fly out and back until more convoy npcs spawn (3,4 or 5 ships). And then begin the warp out route. If you shoot a npc convoy ship at a station that belongs to the same corp as convoy ship(doesn't matter where it orignated, nor does it tell you), it will open fire on you. Also with the PI goods, you will need a hauler.
For the most part, the ships do very little damage in return and are easily destroyed. But holy crap, some of the juicier ones(the boldier cross on them) pretty much start mwding under fire.

After some more watching and waiting i found that what you said is true, they wait until there is 3-4 of them before motoring out to the warp point. i accosted them at the destination station and they dropped 3500m3 of PI goods. a newb in a navitas tried to scoop and scoot but i spanked the puppy with my eagle.
what about the time between spawns. how long would that hyper have to sit under the guns before making a reasonable pile of wrecks? then if you undock in a hauler will the guns still agress? better to do it at the destination system
and now to brighten up this thread. a Failfit Rokh killmail -

use snipe fited BS's to gank the haulers, and an alt to scoop the loot
raven with cruse missiles works fine as it gets epix range
WARNING!!!!!! dont shoot ships coming from NAVY stations of any kind as the local navy will spawn and kill u

You're scared of the local navy?
You *****.
So anyway, the most important question here on everyone's lips is, ofc:
Will it blend? uh, I mean: Is it profitable? 3500m3 of PI goods, what's that sell for? (no 'planetary interaction' for me thank you) __________________________________________________
