Hi everyone!
Just thought I'd drop this into MD for those who haven't seen it yet; last night we released version 3 of EVE Metrics.
http://www.eve-metrics.com/
We've got a completely new design, improved performance in many areas, made the interfaces way more useful in a lot of places, vastly improved the market pages and put in the ground work for assets and POS tools.
There's a complete(ish) feature list here which also touches on our new uploader. If you're technically minded we're looking for some beta testers - get in touch with us on IRC (irc.coldfront.net #mmmetrics). If you'd like to talk to about the site- bugs, suggestions, features you'd like to see- then you can either hop onto IRC and chat with us, or post here. We welcome and value all feedback, positive or not, so long as it's constructive.
And, of course, the more uploaders the better - you can try out the new uploader, or if you're on Windows you can install the existing uploader from the links on the site. With anywhere between 50,000 and 100,000 uploads a day, we get a vast amount of data, but more updates means better data (particularly for our trade displays and so on).
Hope you guys and girls find it useful! -- Ix Forres EVE Application Developer EVE Metrics | accVIEW | I Tweet |

I like! Just to point out something, you still lack a proper icon or image to use when refering to you in our apps and you sort of ruined the one I designed by changing your corporate colors from orange! Grrrr. XD

Edited by: Abdiel Kavash on 14/07/2010 04:53:53 When selecting a commodity, the Graphs tab only shows a list of the regions, no graphs. Also, loading the commodity pages is horribly slow, up to a minute (not my connection - other pages load in seconds). Edit: Using IE8.
I would very much like a feature to select several items at once (e.g. POS fuel) and regions (e.g. The Forge, Lonetrek) and see the sell/buy prices, or even top X orders per region. This can be done via the API tools, but it would be nice to have a GUI version available.

Looks very good as far as I can see. However, it appears that the uploader messes up the issue time of orders. Some are even in the future, most of the time it appears that the deviation from the actual issue time is an integer number of hours. Looks to me like there's either some issue with the cache file decoding, or, more probably, some implicit dependence on timezones when processing the timestamp into a date string.
Anyway, keep up the good work! |

Sorry, but something seems to have gone wrong!
We've been informed and will get this fixed as soon as we can.
The previous version did this as well, which I reported, and I was told to wait for the new version that would fix it, but hasn't.
The account also shows a character biomassed months ago. The transferred character that replaced it, works.
Good stuff, definitely seems faster on the characters that work.

Hey, I use your historic csv dumps every day, but they are lagging behind 3-5 days. Is there any way you could get it closer to the actual date?

We're aware of the horrible bugs in the current uploader; that's why we're pushing to get the new uploader fixed, with none of these bugs, since Salvis Tallan seems to have vanished off the face of the earth so we can't maintain the old one. The issues are mostly related to .NET's handling of all things timestamp related as you guessed. Hopefully we'll have that uploader released before the end of the month. The new uploader also supports Mac and Linux systems under one single codebase, which we're looking forward to. It's also open source, which is an absolute plus!

Graphs don't support IE at present; I'm working on an entirely new graph renderer using matplotlib that will produce .png images instead of using Canvas, which IE doesn't like very much.
A feature to see sell/buy across multiple regions and items is in the works and has been much requested so we'll hopefully have that done soon. We'll probably do this by adding region favorites and combining it with the market favorites list, since that saves you having to set up new lists of items!
As for performance, we're working on it all the time but especially on the item and my metrics pages, we're essentially talking loading huge amounts of data, processing it and rendering it out. Results are cached, but we don't want to give you stale data, so the caches are invalidated as soon as we get any new updates for a given item, which can be quite often for some items (minerals etc especially).
To give you an idea of what we do, database-wise, we _on average_ retrieve 100,000 rows from the database every second. We're also processing around 4-5 uploads every second, which generates a lot of writes to the database and subsequently cache invalidations. PostgreSQL is limited by the speed of our disks - we share load across three disks, one of which is a 10kRPM disk - and we accelerate everything we can once we've got the data (all our calculation work is done in C using the Gun Scientific Library, for example). Database performance is our main problem and that's only solved by reducing database accesses (which is where most of our development and performance improvement work focuses) and by throwing hardware at the problem (donate if you can, please! Another 10kRPM disk would speed things up considerably...).

Historic CSV dumps are generated every day at 1:30 AM. The data we have is the latest that we've been given by uploaders; the only way to improve that is to get more people uploading, specifically using the autobrowser with the market price history option will generate the best results! It's also worth noting that we can't get numbers on the latest day from CCP, only yesterday's numbers. -- Ix Forres EVE Application Developer EVE Metrics | accVIEW | I Tweet |

yes exactly!
eve commander has a very neat small fonts and green and red highlights, it just makes it very easy to scan visually, particularly when trying to find say a previous purchase that matches the sale, to get a quick feeling for the margin.
would be very nice :)
anyway nice work with the site

Working as a programmer on Linux systems (and user on Mac), I'll gladly help with the uploader should there be any need for it. Am interested in getting the uploader working nicely so I can use your awesome upload data feed for some tools I'm trying to link up with your data feeds.

Historic csv dumps in site 12-Jul-2010! The site is written
Quote: All historic price information on EM2 can be retrieved through an extensive set of CSV dumps generated daily at 00:30.
This is not true! When will they be relevant?

Unfortunately there's no such option, it would appear as if the site is perpetually trying to load the key.

I had the same question, you can help make them more relevant by using the uploader and just upload the historic data for the items you need data on yourself, works great, all my data is now at most one day behind.

Oops - okay, fair cop. If you give it a bad key and it can't load it, you can't remove it. I'll fix this.
Originally by: Brock Nelson Whats the credits generated by uploads for?
The credit on each upload is determined by how informationally useful it is to us. This is a fairly complex equation that is a combination of number of orders updated, added, deleted, inferred trades generated, time since last upload for that typeregion combo, with some mathematical constructs and constants thrown in here and there. The end result is that more useful uploads get more credit than uploads that tell us what we already know- this promotes focusing on areas where there's more for us _to_ know!

It is a most impressive piece of engineering!
Edit: just another outlier FYI - I notice that Orca lists a max sales price that is not logical.

Oops. There's some oddities in that chunk of statistics on the site which I'm looking at; we'll get it sorted out soon. It's mainly down to the filtering/weighting by quantity we apply- for big expensive items this doesn't work so well in our current incarnation of that algorithm! -- Ix Forres - 3rd Party Application Developer - EVE Metrics - accVIEW
