I normally stay in silence and never read any of the TL;DR posts but skimming thru a few pages in this comment thread one can see that there are 6 camps, 2 sides.
Side 1, Camp 1: People think it was an excellent devblog ... like it. Side 1, Camp 2: People think it was an excellent devblog ... don't like it. Side 2, Camp 1: People think it was a crap devblog ... like it. Side 2, Camp 2: People think it was a crap devblog ... don't like it.
Camp 5: People that just have no clue as to the evolution of CCP and take the history from where they started following as a measure.
Camp 6: People, and I consider myself in this group, that have been loyal to CCP over years, followed silently and have those famous 2 brain cells that encounter randomly.
Here's my opinion:
Frist of all, I don't care what manpower CCP invests where, how many teams play chess or soccer or work on SecretProject1. That alone makes the devblog a random publicity stunt, much like the famous McD counter that shows how many burgers sold, utterly useless, nice publicity.
Diving into history for a moment some things that I have not read here or lately or ever:
CCP has become a corporate monster with the response time of such a beast when it comes to problems. CCP has internal procedures that you can call AGILE or whatever ... but if you lack the capability of responding to obvious problems, dear CCP, then however you put it, you're in deep ****.
I find it rather laughable that we get a detailed plan of what 2011 brings when half of the features that are ingame are borked in one form or the the other.
I find it hilarious that you water our mouth with your vision of what a full Sci-Fi MMO means when you can't even get a new feature done in line with what you have done over the years.
Huh ?
Well, look at PI. Look at reducing client/server load.
Those two features combine perfectly.
We had insta-bookmarks, taken out because to heavy on the server. We had weapon grouping introduced to reduce CPU required and all that jazz. Along comes PI, the clickfest ... so diametral opposing the trend of saving clicks ( and thus CPU time )
EVE-Gate ? Who the frell cares ... fix the gd forums first before you go and waste developer hours on something that you can do simply just by giving us a new browser ( and letting us use plug-ins, you have had time to check it out, are they safe now ? )
Incarnca ... ... still not here ... and we have seen sooooooooooooooooooo many teasers.
Planetary flight ... ... completely off the grid.
Summing it up.
CCP went from a few good people trying to make a game that is utter fun to a corporation with worldwide offices where those that could say something to change the course have shut up because there is already somebody standing behind them drooling over their job.
The replies by CCP staff in this thread make me wonder when they joined CCP and if they have the slightest clue if they know what us veterans feel when we look back years and remember what CCP once was and has become now.
Another part in the devblog "What weære doing is unheard of in the gaming industry" makes me smile ... that is what CCP has been about all the time ... leading the way in the industry, game, code, hardware, passion and in almost every other aspect wise.
Now ... a simple shadow of their past, blurred, smeared, unclear ...
It's one of those days where I, as a veteran, long time supporter, flagbearer and fanboi of EVE have tears in my eyes when I see what CCP has become and how they treat us players now.
CCP, you always prided yourself with having a mature audience, treat us as such don't try to ******* us continously.
