Edited by: NewGit on 17/07/2010 03:26:13 You need to train up some Science skills. I think there are 16 related to datacores. Decide which datacores you want (say Mechanical Engineering). For that, you will need Science V and Mechanic V, then have to train Mechanical Engineering to I (or more) in order to access an agent that can supply those kinds of datacores.
The datacore skills require you to have Science V, and either Electronics/Engineering or Mechanic V as well.
Check the agent info to see what kinds of datacores he/she can provide. For example, a lot of Carthum Conglomerate (lvl 1) agents can provide Rocket Science, Amarr Starship, Laser physics, Nanite Engineering, Quantum Physics, Molecular and Mechanical Engineering datacores (and some others). Most level 1s it seems can provide 2 different kinds. (www.eve-agents.com is a good place to look for agents and what they offer)
You can only chose 1 field of research per agent (per character). So toon "A" can't use the same agent to get (for example) Rocket Science and Mechanical Engineering datacores, at the same time. You would have to cancel your current research (cash in your Research Points first !), then start researching in the new field.
Different corporations offer different types, and some types are available from most (R&D) corporations. I have 5 toons running 5 R&D agents each (most of them lvl 4), from 4 different corporations, in order to get all the different types of datacores I need. I will have to grind standings with a couple different corporations in order to access their higher level agents, then I can drop a couple of the lower level agents I currently have.
The higher your skill is in the datacore science, the more RPs you'll earn each day. The higher your standings are with the corporation will help too (and from my experience, the better your social skills are, the better the RPs are too).
Once you get an R&D agent "working" for you, you'll earn RPs every day regardless of what else you do. Each day you will have the opportunity to do a "mission" for the agent (usually acquire some minerals, or a short courier run with .1 m3 of "special delivery"). That mission will earn you the same amount of RPs that you would normally get in a day from that agent. (It seems that sometimes it can take a couple of days before the agent offers the first mission).
Don't worry about the "our research has come to a halt" BS. If you don't do the mission, you'll still earn the RPs every day. The missions just let you add a few extra. Those missions also count towards the total needed to get the storyline missions. (i.e. You do 12 level 1 missions for a regular Carthum agent plus 4 level 1 R&D agent missions and bingo, storyline mission.)
Clear as PI goo ? If not, I'm sure someone will point out any errors I've made, and offer (flames, suggestions/hints/emorage)
