Drone control
TLDR, how do I stop drones from changing target to a trigger ship
Ok, I just loosed my raven because my drones behaved badly. I could use some training advice for them.
Running the level 4 mission enemies abound, part 4 (http://eve-survival.org/wikka.php?wakka=EnemiesAbound4p3)
The key facts include a series of waves each triggered by attacking the web/scrambler frigate in the current wave.
My raven isnĘt hugely powerful but it is enough to deal with 1 wave at a time. I determine not to attack the trigger until everything else in the room is dead.
I jump in start blasting the BS with my missiles and send my drones against the non trigger frigates. When the drones first target goes down they automatically attack the nearest enemy ship, witch happens to be the trigger frigate, now I am fighting two waves and I have to recall my drones because they have agro, and one of the trigger frigates (I donĘt know which) has me warp scrambled. I decided to align to a star gate and try to blow the warp scrambler, hoping to warp out before I died. I hot halfway threw its structure before my ship blew.
So while I scout out some good deals for my new ship could somebody tell me how to avoid this result? Can drones be set to go inactive after there target is destroyed, or can I declare a target off limit to my drones.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Quick & dirty way is to r-click the white arrow in your drones window, select settings and change drone behaviour to "passive". Now they wont attack anything unless you specifically order them to.
I prefer to set them to "aggressive" and "focus fire". I use three keyboard shortcuts for Attack, Return to Bay, and Return and Orbit. You will have to set these up as they are not given shortcuts by default in Eve.
I usually select a target and spamming the Attack shortcut for a few seconds and watch the drones take on the selected target.
On occasion, they have a tendency to switch target (God knows why) but another couple of presses of your shortcut key will set them back on the right track.
Personally I use CTRL+E, W and D for the three commands. Easy to use and I've always got my pinkie on the CTRL key anyway for targetting :)

Set drones to passive. Right-click triangle in drone box (while in space). |

yes , when outside station ,you have a drone view
top left side click(or right click)and you ll get drone settings put em passive , and focus fire that way they will always go on the target you want em to go and they turn inactive after destroying the target until you point em onto the next target

As far as I can see drones attack triggers by default in most missions. If my drones are set to aggressive they will always choose Krull in Damsel every time after the first ship is killed.
If you want to leave your drones on aggressive, since frig lock time are long in a BS, kill off most of the spawn. After you have reduced the spawn down enough let the drones out. If they pop the trigger no big deal.

It's been my observation over the last few months that drones have gotten smarter in most ways. I've noticed that my mediums seem to always go after cruiser sized rats, the smalls go after frigates, and continue to do so until all are gone and then switch to the next size up.
Also noticed that drones of any size seem to like picking the web/scrambling ships over anything else now. Personally I like this, but obviously this poses a problem when that's the trigger.
Your best option would probably be to set them to passive and manually control what they attack.

/me slaps forehead
There's always those niggling questions about things in Eve that you really should know but too afraid to ask ... setting drones to passive was one of 'em.
Also, want to agree with poster above ^^ about the way drones are behaving recently, much better even on aggressive. Although saying that, I always make sure I have an eye on them at all times, especially when triggers or proximity are involved. Events in EvE occur in real time! |

The Enemies Abound mission is one of those mission(s) where your drones are initially always at risk. If you see NPC ships not flashing or flashing yellow, your drones are at risk. Take down the battle ships as fast as possible, then once you have full agro form the frigates, engage them with you drones (no risk to the drones).

Ok, another daft question, when you select focus fire, what improvements does this have on their damage output and what's the difference between the two settings? Events in EvE occur in real time! |

How on earth do you manage to click Q instead of D?

I've found that drones set to agressive will often switch to their preferred targets once the first target is popped.
For example I'll set my sentries on an incoming cruiser or frigate whilst taking fire from a battleship. the drones will sit at engaged for about 2 seconds, then they'll idle for a fraction ofa second and go back to engaged.
This is the point where they have now switched to their preferred target, typically the battleship.
As stated above, if you spam engage for about 3 seconds which takes you beyond that 2 second initial switching window, then they'll stick on their target assigned by you.
However this does not help when they're switching to a trigger. In a mission with respawn triggers, set your drones to passive. this is a bugger against Serp or Guristas electronic warfare though, but that's just tough ****.

Putting them on Focus Fire *allegedly* stops them running off to shoot other ships as individually as opposed to all going after the same target. |

Ahh ha, tyvm, completely understand what you're saying as well - do really hate that when a single drone goes after another target on it's own crusade
Must say that the drones are behaving themselves alot better now I've changed the setup Events in EvE occur in real time! |
