I think we need and Orca size Mining Barge, Loose the Maintence Bay and devote all space (basic 130K M3) for ore. It should have 8 High slot for Mining lazers and fleet bonus stuff, 6 to 8 mid slots, 6 to 8 low slots,175 M3 Drone bay and ability to operate 5 heavy drones for defence. Then we can mine without wory of thieves. I understand that many people want to fight but some of us like the mining building aspect of the game and shoud have a chance to do so in peace. This would also make a teriffic salvage barge for Missions and Worm Holes. And a low sec Mining barge as well.

Yes, why make 10 million an hour in a 150 million isk ship, when you can make 10 million an hour in a 500 million isk ship!
Having better yield will NOT increase your earnings. The market demand places value on a miner's TIME. The market decrees we shall make peanuts while mission runners earn circles around us.
And if people are stealing your ore, you're doing something wrong. Try mining more then one jump from Jita.
Also, if you think that kind of ship will survive in low-sec, I have some bad news...

Fine, but only if I'm allowed a 8/8/8 configuration BS that has grid for 8 capital turrets, can go at 2k/s and has a 130k m3 loot bay so that we can counter this new beast

A cap ship that mines should be used to get people mining in low and null sec, rather than just being used in empire to help normal miners stuff their holds with ore, and not just so that there is activity in lowsec.
You see, there is a finite need for minerals in EVE, and producing more minerals than needed does not make you any more money than just enough minerals. The reason mining pays so little at the moment, is because we have reached that saturation point, and unless mining is made harder and all the macros are removed, no matter what you try, empire mining will give you rubbish pay.

Agreed.
The only way I could POSSIBLY even begin to conceive of a capital mining ship would be like this:
5 high slots, 3 for lasers, 2 utility (cloaking, etc). Same number of mids as hulk same number of lows Keep the cargo hold the same size. Make it a capital ship that is limited to low/null sec.
Then you would have a fairly decent low/null sec miner. Would not want one of those in hi sec, this would be purely for mining. Also, should have to cyno. That is the only way I could ever justify, in my mind, a capital mining ship.

I like the idea of having a mining capital that doesn't mine anything on its own, but when used in a belt actively (as in, something you have to focus on so you can't AFK it), boosts the output of an entire mining op.

Hmm... so perhaps a module with say a 3 minute timer, that has to be reclicked each time it cycles? That might be a cool idea. perhaps have some kind of mini puzzle game, just so you aren't there bored stiff. More yield drives the prices down, negating any bonus the additional yield may give. If you want to go capital, give it everything except a yield bonus.
Huge cargo, huge laser range and huge ore scanner range. Even better, a local refining module or compressor.

Edited by: Miriam Letisse on 19/07/2010 23:37:35 I've always liked the idea of a sort of mining scout ship. On it's own it's fairly unremarkable but put it in a belt and magic happens!
Something frigate or cruiser size that would would have a scanner similer to system scanning that you'd need to slowly close in on the best pockets within that asteroid to get the best yield for the miners; Mining Barges and Exhumers on their own would get fairly okayish yields but with one of these constantly digging out the best bits would get the best possible yield from each rock.
Edit: ... maybe a use for the Primae hull, or even better, an entirely new hull! Double Edit: Paging Nova Fox, we need a new hull over here!

Edited by: Berikath on 20/07/2010 20:45:52 How 'bout just adding something kinda fun to have for the Orca-
Keep other stuff the same, but add a new targeted Mining Foreman Link:
Range: say, 50km? "Initiates a transfer with the target, piping vast amounts of raw power through their lasers, increasing mining yield by 50% and reducing ice harvester cycle time by 33%. The yield of their cycle is then transferred directly to your ore hangar.
Also, offensive laser damage is increased by 1. Woo.
This module can only be used on members of your fleet."

Astral Mining and ORE will frown upon me if I go out and design a ship for thier competitors that involves a solo mining freighter when they're still currently pressing for skimmers and outrigger mining ships.
Request for new hull denied until further made reasonable and worth the cost effort. Until then Ill be closely engineering the soe ships to better fit the sisters needs. shoving shipboard systems on them has been trying lately. Pre-order your Sisters of ≡v≡ Exploration ship today, Updated 24FEB10

why no mining command module that "softens" the roids and let it be mined faster (more yield)?
just like a target painter, just for miners

Don't you guys get it? faster cycle or higher yield will NOT equate to more income from mining, especially not in empire space. Why not? Because of the simple fact that ore prices are not fixed. They are affected by supply and demand, overproduce one type of ore and the price will drop.
It's the same with everything else really. More/faster != more income. (In the long run).
It will only be advantageous to component and ship -manufacturers.

It sounds nice and all, but really if you want to make loads of cash, go to null. Sure null isn't for everyone, but then again it is one of the best places for miners to make loads of isk. If this ship was put into the game, expect prices for ore and minerals to drop like crazy. Then once again miners will have to go for the next biggest ship, which is this one in order to make any amount of decent isk.
Leave the mining the way it is. It's good right now. ---------------------- Knowledge is power Power is Knowledge

Do it the simply way:
(ironic mode on)
-Rorqual can fit strip miners. -Someone go to the belt whit the rorqual -Some pirate notice that there is a rorqual out of the POS buble. -"lol killmail" -everyone happy (mayby not everyone, but most)
(ironic mode off)
I didnt see the point of what you want:
-If you want to mine, hauler and bonus: make a second acount (ccp will be very happy whit this), or take friends that can do that. -If the only thing you want its the "ultiamate overpowered miner ship", go somewhere else, this game is about "one ship for each thing", no more, no less. |

Bejeweled! like the WoW addon
Seriously though, how about a mega tractor beam II module that lets you tow a whole asteroid back to a station through warp. So much easer than all this mining laser nonsense! This is where my sig would go... |

This is actually a really good idea. With 8 strip miners and 5 mining drones and another 5 drones to protect yourself, this ship could be used anywhere and could make more than 10 mill in an hour. more like 30 mill (or at least I think so). I personally like the idea that I would be able to mine in peace. even though i mine 15 jumps from jita and other pirates still steal my ore. nice thinking. :)

On a more serious note, a ship to advance to after the hulk whould be nice, but it should not have a higher isk per hour ratio than the hulk, it just needs to be different, like a mining orca that cannot be warp scrambled by normal means (Seriously, you need something like that if you want someone to bring anything expensive out to regular low-sec)

There are ships like this. They are called the Orca and the Rorqual. Sure, they don't DIRECLY mine (unless you count Mining Drones) but they do act as support to miners... either in giving bonuses that increase mining barge yields or in defending said ships against attacks (the RR and drone damage bonus the Rorq has and the Maintenance Bay that both the Rorq and the Orca have are nothing to laugh at). _______________________

OOH i like this idea, a capital mining ship that mines about the same amount as the hulk but gets a huge bonus to mining laser range, assists gangs with a large ore hold and is "immune to all forms of electronic warfare"

Edited by: Shoot Frist on 18/08/2010 07:58:52 My idea: Recon Barge, Recon Mining Cruiser, Recon Mining frigate.
The ability to fit a covert-op's cloak. T2 resistances, can jump through recon portals for epic "lol" ninja 0.0 mining while being defened by various other recon buddies to have a little recon mining OP.
of course they won't be able to mine as much as their non-recon counterparts, that's silly. They'll just be able to slip into all the juicy areas while unseen. -vanishes into smoke- Edit: You already have the recon hauler why not complete the recon family with a recon mining vessel?...recon.......recon -done-

You guys were talking about an active module to inecrase yield. Why not some kind of active roid' painter :P ? Or a remote duration enhancer. The Capital would pass energy and CPU power to the barge to help it mine faster, etc etc etc.
NOTE: Of course, it'd not be possible to focus different modules on a single person..... Would be too easy :P
The thingy would be designed only to work on the mining capital, and use a good amount of CPU/PG. The ship should be able to fit 5-6 imo. The ship should be RELATIVELY easy to manufacture compared to other stuff to make people use it actively in belts.

I would love to see a low-sec restricted capital miner. - Should Be able to cyno jump - Must yield twice as much as the Hulk - Cost between 500 mil - 1 bil
Today low sec is not much more profitable for mining than high sec, such a ship could potentially make low sec mining more profitable. Of course the risk involved in getting the extra profits would be incredibly high, but that's how EVE should be in my mind ... incredibly risky.
Would love to see more incentives for low sec mining...
