I've grabbed the destroyer skill just because it was available and I don't have to train any extra skills to fly them. Add to this, the fact that me and BS don't seem to get on well and it seems that I've talked myself into frigs and cruisers for a while till I can afford to mess about in Battleships again. So, the question. Which destroyers are being used to the most effect (PvP mainly and I guess PvE to an extent)? I noticed the slots had big variations between races (1 low slot for one of them). And I wonder which one people use, and what set-ups work. I will get round to messing about in assault frigs and battlecruisers soon as well but there are already a few threads about them, this is just about destroyers. Any opinions or setups please.

i think the coercer is pretty nice, they have lasers and they are teh win anyhow. they all have turrets and you could try to make the coercer into a kamikazi boat (because that is all it can be with about 700 hitpoints total) with a couple of heatsinks in the lowslots. Havent tried that myself though, but it seems like a nice setup

Edited by: Pandora Panda on 19/12/2004 16:43:01 The thrasher with 200mm autocannon is nice because its pretty quick and does plenty of damage. Coercer is my favorite just for the raw damage output and excellent tracking of lasers.
Cormerant and catalyst are stuck using rails due to low speed, which makes them vulnerable to frigates orbiting in close... and noone likes to have their destroyer killed by an incursus. -------------------------------------------- CONCORD: Kneecapping Pilots for Misdemeanors Since 2003 |

Thrasher with 7 x 200mm ACs and a standard launcher is nice for PvE.
Catalyst with 8 light electron blasters and antimatter has a huge damage output, but I'm still working on a config that doesn't get slaughtered on approach.
Overall, I find destroyers are like slow frigates with massive damage output. I should try one with longer ranged guns; a catalyst with eight 125mm rails might be good.

Thanks for ideas guys. I've been toying with the idea of training lasers up for a while and it seems that they're best on inties as well. Wonder if it's worth it or will the be knocked for six by the nerf bat?

Cormorant is cool if you treat it like a mini-bb. Other than that, destroyers don't really seem like they are all that great in general.

IMHO. the coercer is not a pvp platform. yes it does deal alot of damage with all those lasers firing, however with only 1 mid slot. all the damage dealing in the world will do you no good if your prey can outrun you or simply warp away

my cormorant has the following loadout:
H: 1x standard missile launcher w/ bloodclaws 1x 75mm gatling railgun w/ antimatter (close) 6x 125mm railguns w/ lead (range)
M: shield booster, cap charger, mwd, kinetic shield amp
L: PDU
works a treat on level 2 missions, tho sometimes can get hard.

Ive had the same problem! It can get rough on a lvl 2 mission with a destroyer but my punisher completes them like they are lvl 1! ---------------/\--------------- I sure hope they have found a cure for cancer in EVE that would make it better than real life... |

agreed... but destroyers are meant to be used in conjunction with an inty i think so get you mate in a male to do the tackling then you just beat em sensless with all 8 barrells :)

I use a cormerant on occasion and do really like it. I treat is as a disposable ship though so never expect it to survive.
I currently fit it with;
7* 125mm Rails 1 Rocket Launcher with Defender
1 MWD 1 Warp Disruptor 1 Cap Recharger 1 Webbie
1 Cap Relay
I get about 40 damage per shot with the rails so it can really pump out the damage if you get a close frig or inty. If they are beyond 15-20k I die though. You win some you lose some.
Fitting it with 3 dampeners also works, 2 people each flying those will give an enemy a lock time of about 15 minutes. Which is always good for comedy value.

Edited by: Liz Bathory on 21/12/2004 12:03:41 as a pvp interceptor pilot, ith at least 8 destroyer kills i have to say, don't bother with them
yes, they have a nice number of guns, but because of hte rof penalty, a thrasher with 7 125mm t2 gatling autocannon, does almost the same damage as a claw does with 3 125mm gatling t2's. and they are hideously underpowered in all other aspects
i have never met a destroyer i cannot kill only slightly slower and with no more risk, than a frigate

Whilst ive not tried this pvp and it is very slow, it is possible to rig a Coercer with more armour than an Omen. Which is nice

They have alot of potential, thrasher is the best I ahve seen.
Badly setup however they are pointless. In my taranis i have faced 3, 1 went down like it was made of paper,, with no dmg on me, the next 2 i barely escaped with my life. __
There, i just contributed nothing to your thread
