Nice idea but that star was just a bug that got fixed and had a little story added to it. Plus where ever we are, its not in the Milky way galaxy. The Milky Way galaxy has been fully colonised.

Either your math is off or (more likely) they little story they added to the bug was misguided.
Take a look at this map. This shows everything from our solar system to the entire known universe. If you direct your attention to the 'Local Cluster' map, you can see that with your figures we are in the Magellinic cloud, which can't be accurate as the Milky way would fill the entire northern hemisphere from anywhere in New Eden.

It was in the old introduction before we had the new rubbish one. Rubbish in content and quality as its encoded badly with big black blocks.
From a Story point of view the start of Eve is a giant step backwards from what we used to have :(

Well the Bright Star was visible, (and went out) at the same time across New Eden. Some have suggested this means the light was travelling faster than the speed of light.
Instead this might be considered evidence that New Eden is a closed three dimensional Hyper-Euclidean Manifold. 
Explanation: Consider three dimensional space rolled into a sphere as per the Poincare Conjecture. If the source of energy is at or near the centre of the sphere (in a fourth dimension), it would arrive at all points on the surface of the third dimensional sphere simultaneously.

The storyline is flawed, and a lie, either one.
The human race, severed from it's foundations, either corporatist or statist, will flourish every time.
I don't think that gate just collapsed one day and the human race reverted to the stone age for no reason.
23000 years - someone at that point wanted the original reason to be forgotten perhaps.
Or better yet, the real reason for the decline happened too fast for anyone to record it.
The gate was deliberately destroyed.

No people wouldn't flourish every time. It was explained. Many of the planets could not support human life. Infrastructure was barely built up and the colonies where not self sustainable most of the colonies relayed of shipments of food and resources' though the Eve gate. Without the shipments the smaller colonies just died off. Only the bigger more developed colonies which were more self-sufficient survived but even they couldn't maintain there technology base without being able to manufacture more.
Image you took 1000's of humans on Earth and put them on mars then cut off the links between Earth and mars before the planet was fully terraformed before Infrastructure was fully built up. Those humans couldn't produce more micro processors as there are no manufacturing plants and they could not build more manufacturing plants. Over the years computers would fail and not be replaced. They couldn't replace used up medicine, hospitable equipment. Over time sociality would go backwards until its got to a stabilisation point where they could maintain what they had. Then they need to build back up.
Colonies did not go back to the stone age or die overnight. It took upwards of 39years for many of the Smaller settlements to perish. Some colonies like the Yan Jung or Jove didn't seem to have any problem and survived over 1000's years after the Eve gate shut. The dark ages did not start till 39days after the Eve gate shut.
On top of all that if I recall correctly when the Eve gate shut there was a shock wave doing more damage to the closer colony's.
