No, this is about effects and not the ship textures. The effects badly need an overhaul as they literally are from 2003 even with the newer overused wormhole effect that seems to be repeated in a slightly modified way by far too many other graphical events. Not to say all of the effects are bad. I think the lasors look pretty neat and so do autocannons and arty. But the hit effects are all pretty boring especially for arty with its tiny little poof when you should get a huge explosion. Explosions for npc though seem to have gotten a few stealth buffs recently as they seem a bit more complex and attractive. But the same big blue ball of light death for player ships needs some serious variety between ship class probably worse than all the other effects. Then there are the ew effects like the eye killing sebo and eccm effects that make even a leet rig grind to a halt in even a smaller fleet fight. Meh, I'll stop now or I will end up with 5 moar paragraphs of annoyance.
No! One last thing: FIX CYNO EFFECTS!

That is the standard size for a single paragraph.
I even stated I held off on further comments to keep it at only one.
I bet reading books must be painful for you.
So I made this reply in easy to read double space.

How many sentences did you start with the word but?

Two. A slight grammer mistep for sure but tbh only a word nerd would even so much as twitch at it.

Point is if you're gonna say but, make a new paragraph, one that doesn't start with but.

We are doing the architectural work now that would allow us to overhaul a lot of the old effects in the future.
I think this will also show that we take it serious link1 and linky2
Maybe you should first try to hire more network programmers, if i looked at it correctly, i counted like 3 whole job apps for that and alot of other at this time useless job apps, the game is pretty as it is, now just fix the damn game!
The best solution to any problem is to throw more cooks at the broth!
So by your logic, if CCP halved the number of devs working on Incarna, it would get developed twice as quickly?
Malcanis' Law: Whenever a mechanics change is proposed on behalf of "new players", that change is always to the overwhelming advantage of richer, older players. |

No, that also doesn't follow. In its simplest terms, the cost of bringing more devs up to speed combined with the extra overhead of them "getting in each other's way" will mean that there will probably not be a gain to be had from throwing extra resources at it.
The cook analogy is actually really good - 20 cooks cooking 5 gallons of borsch won't be much faster than 5 (if its faster at all, and it probably won't be)... but 1 will be much slower than 5. :)

Dear CCP. Please don't overhaul any of your old effects. I liked the old Cyno, the new one is crap. I liked trails. Green stuff coming out the back of my Diemos was the only thing making it worth flying.

So what you are saying is that you now make a framework that can be iterated upon later? Where did we hear that before? Ah i remember, all the other frameworks you made but never did anything with.
This isn't a gameplay feature, so I'd say your remark is not applicable here. A lot of the architecture in EVE is updated or downright replaced on a regular basis. Since it is merely architecture you don't see the effect of it. We are tackling a system now in particular that is soo old it will not even allow people to add anything to it, so we are looking at replacing it completely.
We want to hire effect artists because the artists that are working on EVE are not specialized in effect work and the graphic programmers are programmers..,not artists. They could all make the new effects but it would be much better if we can hire people who are specialized in this area.
This is something that, as a programmer myself, has always revealed itself: Programmers are not artists, and artists are not programmers. I can take a 3D model and find out how to load it into a particular graphics engine, but if tasked to make that model, forget it. Just trying to cut down on the panels using Blender makes me want to go live on a deserted island. These days using the model and creating it are like two worlds.
Ah I remember manually writing code to parse the Points from DXF files, put three or four of them into a class called "Panel", and then put the Panel in a linked list in a class called "Polygon" and then......

BTW. i would like to see that we can fight in space again with more than 20 people without lag... this is a game about spaceships right? Or maybe i am wrong and its just a graphic demo.
Web, Guns, Shields and Armor are all much better now.

Last I heard, the billboard code was written by a dev who quit a looooonnnnggg time ago. Unfortunately, the code is so convoluted that nobody has dared to touch it, lest it shatter to a million pieces. ----------

Which was exactly my point. The billboard code seems to fit what Eris described exactly, so I was pointing out that Yuki's guess may not have been that much of a shot into the dark after all. The billboards are graphical assets, too. So the connection is far from far-fetched.

I know it seems a lot of resources are going into Incarna, but not all of them. We wouldn't just forget about spaceships, no matter how tight the latex is on those Gallente wenches.
That wasn't a resources commitment comment, it was a logical hop by adding the next big graphical update (Incarna will require a large amount of new tech added into the engine) and your current project (as remembered by my shoddy memory).
