Topic. Make a disposable alt if you dont feel good posting with your main.
Anyways, Cataclysm is around the corner and i want to know if any of you plan to play WoW again.
As for me, i quit the night we did Yogg +1. Suddenly, after the kill, i realised WoW is dead for me. It was a hard fight, but the feeling i had after we killed Ragnaros and then Nef and Cthun...this feeling of accomplishment and a sense of achievement, it was not there after Yogg. So, this night i logged off and searched the net in hope for an MMO which suits my needs, and came to eve. This was 13 months ago, and i like this game. I dont want to start a hatewar on Blizzard/WoW (the time was great, my guildies were all great people, i had fun.), just want to hear some opinions of ex-players.
Oh, and please forgive me my bad english. Its not my native language, and i never had english classes in school...so, you get the idea ^^.

Yeah when cataclysm hits I will resub up just to see whats new. I have several characters I somehow got to level 40ish that would probably be nice to use. I kinda likes the blood elf warlock as summoning lets you take on stuff several levels higher than you and you level up reallly fast. Too bad that was the last character I had made and was already about ready to chuck the game. Otherwise I would probably have actually been able to stand the boring grind to level 80.
But yeah blizzard gets +1 sub for at least one month.

No, I know what it is. I've never played it, never will. ------------------- Always remember this about EVE:

I might do a free trial like they do for old players, but I don't plan on resubbing anytime soon.
I quit playing because it became too much work and not enough fun. Scheduling near daily raids that last 4-5 hours, doing the same bosses over and over.
I kept pushing for newer and harder stuff and while most of the vets and the GM agreed, we couldn't get the numbers to join us. Yet whenever we had the easy, farm stuff scheduled, then suddenly we had a surplus of raiders. We had to resort to mystery raids just to get players, but in the end, it wasn't enough. -------------------------------- CCP can patch away bugs, but they can't patch away stupidity. |

They lost me and thousands of other players when they started trying to pigeon hole us and paint us as being a certain type of people.
Examples: Thinking Ozzy Osbourne would be something we'd want to associate with, or wouldn't puke in our mouth when thinking about the association. Putting motorcycles in the game that say "pwn" on them. Etc.
Of course, just as much to blame if not more: 15 bucks a month for a game you can only play a few hours a week if you're serious about the game (you have to wait for all the stupid encounters/raids/etc to reset on a weekly basis etc). And no matter how hard you work or how fantastic of a player you are, there's no guarentee you'll ever get the equipment you need to be your best. I'm SO done with all that. It was neat for awhile, and the expansion looks neat.. but unfortunately, you get nothing for world pvp or exploring the game world really... so all you have is end game or arena really... neither of which is appealing or rewarding to most.
Oh, and I almost forgot. I just made you read my signature. |

I quit a few weeks after we moved to 25 man hc icc. After killing the LK, guild members simply seemed to care much less about progress. Noone was interested in 10 man hc icc runs to gear up etc., subsequently I turned my mind to other things and just quit.
Needless to say, blizzard publishing activity feeds, threatening to publish real names etc. did not particularly add to the desire to come back.
Also, I can't get myself to seriously play EVE anymore, it feels like a too big can of worms to open (join a corp, have responsibilities, be active etc.). I prefer the instant gratification (including the rage quitting on expert mode) of L4D2 these days. ;-)
How to PVP: 1. buy ISK with GTCs, 2. fit cloak, learn aggro mechanics, 3. buy second account for metagaming

ill post with my main..
I am currently playing both wow and eve. *shrugs* If you have fun with something, more power to you regardless of what it is. I currently like both eve and wow, as they're different enough to be used to take a break from the other. I'm not a raider, really, either.

An online-buddy got me into WoW. I wanted to quit several times before I reached 60 (in 2005/2006). I quit after 2 months. The endgame was boring, low drop rates, having to travel up to an hour to dungeons and then after first encounter (wipe)...group disbands...waste of time.
I've got to max level after every expansion but the endgame dungeons and raids don't interest me. Why would I want to get better gear? So I can brag about me not having a life? I would like to see a purpose to get that gear, a SOLO purpose. There isn't one. Now they have dailies but those are so so boring (daily quests, same quests always). I have a rogue and hunter at 80, did quite a lot of dungeon farming for 2 months on hunter, can only get better gear for hunter from Raids but that is boooriiing. Tradeskilling is boring, secondary professions (fishing etc) are boring. PVP has no purpose other than to get PVP gear. Well, Wintersprings PVP is a bit special since the winners "faction" can then go do the raid dungeon there (love being Horde for that, Horde won almost every time on my server).
I'm not going to buy Cataclysm. I don't expect it to change the gameplay in any way.

I got to lvl 60 and did the raid thing for a while. Then BC came and i got my char to lvl 70 and started the raid thing all over again. It didnt last long until i could not be arsed to repeat the same stuff i got tired of at lvl 60 in a format that was even less fun. If not for the guild i was in i would have quit much sooner. I will never play wow again.

Of course I will resub when Cataclysm arrives. I'll get my few characters to the level cap, max out their professions and run a few dungeons. Then I'll resub to Eve or STO and spend a few months playing them.
I find it the best way not to get bored with any one game.

I gave up in WoW post-WoTLK. It just became a continuous, sad grind to the next end-game.
Been keen on EVE since they announced Incarna. And so here I sit, in station, spinning ships.
It's actually a better alternative.
Really.

Ack. Actually I won't be resubbing for the new wow expansion because I forgot you have to pay $50 for it plus the monthly sub.
Eve has ruined me tbh.

I still play it from time to time, granted i have only logged in like eight times this month...
It can be a fun game, its just a bit to grindy for me(and i mine in eve!!) but then again its a good change from eves 'everone is out to get you' kind of gameplay. ________________________________________________ Tau - Yeah we suck in close combat. I had planned to quit WoW come Catalsym, I didn't like the direction Blizzard was going with it. Their policy of letting everyone see everything was just taking every feeling of acomplishment out of it, heroic fights were fairly lame with mosty just being the same thing as normal just with bigger numbers. Finally quite due to some RL issues and my harddrive with my WoW install on it burning out, for the best I guess; for EVE time
And I certainly won't be resubbing for Cata.

I quit after it became clear they were intent on dumbing down the game. Yea I know wow was never a hardcore game but had a great balance in the beginning. The idea that epics were a right and didnt need to be earned annoyed me.
Alterac Valley in my opinion was the greatest battleground ive ever played in any MMO. Long, stupid, poor rewards and like trench warfare, but I had a blast playing that BG. When I left it was a PVE race to maximize honour points. Hell blizzard even had an achievement for completing it in five minutes.
I shall not be returning.

Thanks god (I think), I never played Wow.
Back in 2007, I did not know anything about MMOs. I just started to play the classic Star Craft I a bit with my friends on lan parties.. then I got interested in Blizzard and looked for infos about that company, and I met MMOs in the form of Wow. I actually believed that Blizzard invented MMOs!
So, I tried to download the Wow client, but it was over 2 GB to download with the Blizzard downloader, and I didn't manage to download it completely (I would have needed 5 hours or so).
But my curiosity about MMOs didn't vanish, and I met EVE. And I have always been a SciFi fan. The EVE client was only 650mb and direct download was available, so I needed 30 minutes to download and install it instead of 6+ hours for Wow.
It looks very stupid, but the main reason why I didn't start playing Wow was the client size and the fail blizzard downloader. Now I could try, but I don't actually feel the need for another MMO, since in the end EVE has by far the best concept in my opinion (well, it has some problems...). If I were forced to try a fantasy mmorpg, I would try Mortal Online.

I got persuaded to play by friends, complained about the **** graphics from day 1.
Got shafted by a member of my own guild for sharing trade secrets, some pink stones from Arathi Highlands I sold down in Booty Bay for loads, sparing people the actual gathering quest. This mofo blatantly undercut me with his main character.
After having been turned off on the whole idea of ever working with anyone in that guild apart from said friends I went fishing and found that to be the most interesting aspect of the game.
I pondered some while I fished and soon quit the game. Gave the box away too.
Nothing would get me back to that game, the soulless high fantasy garbage that it is has no draw on me.

I quit a few months ago. After raiding heroic 25-man ICC for a while it just became utterly boring - There was no point to the game anymore. Not even before that. I got another character to 80 and i didn't see why i "had" to play. The only incentive was more gear...
And that's where WoW falls down (mostly). Gear is the only motivator. The actual gameplay hasn't evolved since the initial alpha builds based on how EQ1 worked. It's boring as hell. People keep playing games like Tekken, Streetfighter, Battlefield, Counter-Strike, Warcraft 3 and Starcraft for good reason - They're games that are fun to play. Rather than actually making playing the game interesting, most MMO developers choose to make it a grind, and Blizzard is no exception.
The only other thing that could have served as a motivator, the lore, was screwed up entirely when patch 3.2 was released. Rather than introduce a proper piece of new lore-based content, they flat out declared that it was a preparation for the next assault (read: patch). An entire patch cycle built around gearing up and nothing else. Suddenly the lore wasn't important anymore on it's own, it was only a convenient backdrop to design gear for.
The lore was unraveling. All the interesting plot points were replaced with references to modern pop culture, aswell as being warped into convoluted conclusions to fit whatever gear design there might have been for the game, or whatever was easier for the devs to do. Instead of an immersive world for people to escape to we get an advertisement for this weeks teen idol or an obscure reference to a movie only 40 people have seen.
While Cataclysm may fix some of the issues it introduces a whole slew of new ones. Take a look at the screenshots for the redesigned Aszhara to see what i mean. The devs completely lost the plot, doing whatever their coked up brains come up with that morning rather than taking a step back and designing the game as a whole.
TLDR: WoW is falling apart. It's became a race to who has the best gear and ignores whatever else there is to do. You might aswell play Diablo 2, Titan Quest or Torchlight. Those games give you exactly what WoW gives you, just without the subscription fee.

The fantastic graphics are one of the only good things it has going for it nowadays, I don't know what you're talking about. However, if you wanted to complain about the terrible art direction in parts of the game, I'd side with you. Namely, all those terrible mismatching outfits and obsession with neon green and purple and other clashy bits.

To be fair EVE has been there since day 1, names of people and alliances all the more silly as time go by.
Concepts such as Cosmos and Faction Warfare tossed in and abandoned. Ads and product placement is but a jump away.
Blizzard acknowledged outright that most people lack imagination and are too cool for school and let them run with it. Just you wait, Dark Matter Drawers Alliance is just around the corner.

I was a WoW player back in 2005-2008 or so. I always told myself I would quit if Blizzard ever implemented a way for players to level on a pve server and then transfer to a pvp server. Well, when they did do that I stayed true to my principles and quit that very day.
I resubbed briefly for WOTLK and leveled my Paladin to 80 then quit again the day after I cleared Naxx 25 the first time.
I probably will not ever resubscribe to WoW. Or any other Blizzard MMO for that matter. I do not like the path that that company has chosen, for its games, as well as everything around the games (battle.net accounts, micro-transactions like there's no tomorrow, realID)
Really, the carrot on a stick, play for gear to then get more gear model just does not attract me in any way at all anymore.
I like that in Eve, a Micro Warp Drive I is still a valid and useful piece of equipment that even a 5+ year old character would still have on certain fits. Nothing is ever obsolete.
In WoW, huge swathes of content are rendered obsolete every time a new patch or expansion is released. It's sad really. It's like the WalMart of MMOs. Consume, consume consume.
Anyways, I'm rambling now. I don't even log into Eve very often anymore. Maybe my MMO days are over. This account only has a day or two (maybe even only hours) left on it. Not sure if I will resubscribe for the next 18 months or so.
The past 8 months or so I have really been getting into Grand Strategy games, mostly those by Swedish Developer/Publisher Paradox Interactive. Victoria II comes out this weekend, and that will probably eat most of my gaming time for the next month or so. Sarcasm - Because i'm too far away to strangle you. |

Edited by: Darth Kilth on 12/08/2010 00:23:59 Played it a few months back, left a 3 months after I started.
Friends played it and decided to give it a go, bad decision. It was boring all the way up to level 80, empty zones until the end game. End game filled with ******s and generally unpleasant people. PVP was just flavour of the month and being in a good team by chance.
Quit as soons as the subscription ran out, Had EVE to pay/play.
