Hey there,
if always heard about Officers and that they drop nearly the best loot you can get. I also heard that they only spawn in -1.0 systems in the 0.0 regions. So how is it possible for someone who isnt in a corp or at least not in one of the big alliances holding space in these regions, to ever see, let alone kill an officer spawn? You would have to jump up to 30 systems throuh 0.0 and on every gate there could be gate camps... Did anyone ever do that, or know some ways you can get into the systems where officers spawn unnoticed?
Sorry if these Questions are a little bit stupid, but I am still a noob when it comes to 0.0

It's pure luck, you don't hunt for officer spawns as such - there is a very small chance they will appear. The only thing you can do to influence it (afaik) is chaining spawns properly which involves shooting the right combination of ships in asteroid belts. Frankly though I would imagine this is the least of your concerns at this point in time.
Bear in mind there are people who have lived in 0.0 for years who have never seen an officer spawn.

Lol yeah, an officer isn't something you plan. It's just a "OMGOMGOMG" moment like when you find a $500 bill on the street.

You don't need to be in deep 0.0 to get Officer spawns. I got a True Sansha Battleship in Providence, only a few jumps in to 0.0, that dropped a Slave Omega I sold for ~800 million ISK.
As far as getting out to 0.0, Wormholes are your friend. Probe for a bit and you'll come across some holes leading to backwaters of 0.0 that are rarely traveled and ripe for setting up shop. Long term security and finding a way back are your responsibility.

That's not officer, that's simple faction.

A "True Sansha" is not an officer spawn - it's a faction spawn. You have likely never seen an officer spawn. --------------- Faction-Militia:Player-Alliance::Newbie-corp:Player-corp |

IIRC, officers will spawn on gates and belts (inc. belts from mining missions) in NPC home regions, i.e. Curse, Venal, Stain. All systems in these regions, regardless of their true sec status, can be regarded as having a true sec status of -1.00. You then need to clear out the rats in each belt until you get to the end of the chain. At the end of the chain, there's a chance of a faction or officer spawn occurring.

I was once in a corp quite some time ago that lived in 0.0. The CEO had an uncanny ability to get Officer spawns.
I was talking to him about it one day and he said to me "There should be an officer spawn in system XXX-XXX in about 1.5 hours", and sure enough there was.
When I inquired about it, he said he "had a program" but wouldnt elaborate.
Could be he was just yanking my chain, but he was very wealthy, and spent a lot of time ratting, and got a lot of officer spawns.

MacGyver, Patron Saint of all Minmatar.
Our MacGyver, who art in the bulkhead tinkering, Hallowed be thy name. Thy duct tape come. Thy rig be done, in hull as it is in electronics. Give us this day our daily tweak. And forgive us our rustbuckets as we forgive them too. And lead us not into Falloff but deliver us from EWAR. For thine is the ingenuity, the resourcefulness, and the mullett for ever and ever.
Amen.

Yeah sure, but I am at least gonna try it out, I like to try out new stuff in eve, so why not do that^^ Staying in empire all day, doing missions or mining is boring, so I tend to try nearly all the game offers me!

Edited by: Khan Dok on 26/07/2010 22:18:30 If you are in Empire, a thing you can do is get into a ship like an assault frigate or something akin to that which can move fast around belts. Find some area with 0.5 and 0.6 systems which arent too populated. Preferably with alot of belts in them.
Just go through belts here then looking for faction spawns. They have a good chance of dropping implants that will net you anywhere from 50-175 milllion on the market. Dont bother shooting anything thats not a faction spawn, just be on your way.
If you have 3 or 4 good systems you should find faction spawns on a regular basis.
Make sure you know what you are looking for, like a Gurista faction spawn is called a Dread Gurista, a Sansha is called a True Sansha and so on.

Officers are random spawns. The chance of an officer spawning is related to the true security rating of the system; the lower the true-sec, the higher the chance (though it's never any higher than tiny). In the home region (that region where the pirate faction holds sovereignty), the true-sec is treated as being -1.0 regardless of what it actually is, which is why those regions have the highest chances.
Now, since officers are random and the loot drops are random, they aren't a guaranteed source of income. Get lucky and you hit the jackpot (how much is an Estamel's Modified Invulnerability Field going for these days?). Don't get lucky and you spend a lot of time looking.
I've heard that the best time to look for officers is right after downtime when the server first comes up. I can't say if this is true. I've personally seen two officers, one that I killed while ratting (just happened to run into him) and one that we killed while hunting down a target (the guy who was acting as bait to try and draw the target out caught one in a belt). I've known people who've never seen one in years.
Good luck. ______________________________________________________ Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you? |

I can't comment on officer spawns as I have never seen one. But as far as faction spawns go, right after downtime does indeed seem to have a connection and effect on spawn chance.

Personally I've only had one officer spawn and that was in Stain. It was a 2 belt system and was unlikely (not impossible) that all the previous belt rats would have been killed (i.e. it was a normal respawn). Would be great to clarify whether they do the following:
a) Spawn as if they were a 3 bs 2 cruiser spawn (the highest lvl iirc) b) Spawn at any respawn lvl. c) Replace an existing set of rats.
Would also be handy to know if they respawn after a set time. I'd like to think they do tbh.

I recently hit the jackpot on an officer spawn. I was clearing belts in a -0.80 true sec system in Branch. Alot of folks will tell you to chain rats instead of clearing them, but I don't think I'll chain rats ever again.
There was a spawn of 6 BS and one of them was named Kaaika. When I looted the wreck I think I broke out into a sweat, and my hands started to shake. I almost couldn't remember the way back to the system where the station was. I just KNEW I was gonna get popped. Luckily I didn't \o/
I threw all the officer mods into a container and took a SS.

easiest way to get officer loot is to belt hop after every downtime in a npc pirate sov region.
record in corp for one guy is 9 officers in 1 week with 5 officer invuls

My first officer dropped true sansha stuff and an officer tag....and I think some useless plating. I think the salvage (~300mil) was worth more. I forgot to mention that you are in fact reading something that is called a signature. |

Misinformation ftw. There's no chain of spawns that is destined to appear. Each new spawn is completely random modified by the truesec/military index of the system. However, you might want to consider a few things, first of all; I now have one of those annoying sigs. second; you should probably move on to some more interesting things than reading this sig.

Anomalies can only have faction spawns. Signatures (complexes) & escalation from anomalies (can) have an overseer (that drops the A/B/C/X-Type loot)

Officers are overrated; would guess median spawn is only a few hundred mils worth.
From statistic set of 6000 spawns (some 10k+ belts): - One in 30-60 spawn is faction spawn - One in 30-90 spawn is hauler spawn - One in 400-1200 spawn is officer
Conclusions from the set: - NPC sovereignity has higher likehood for officers - New spawns are random: every one has chance to be officer - Post DT belt hopping is the way
