Originally by: Zarks It is utterly shocking that CCP have now removed /Signed to try and reduce the number of pages of peoples discontent almost as shocking as the lag ingame.
To be fair, they removed that a long time ago now, as they felt it was "spamming" the forums.
In the assembly hall we got the "Support this topic:" checkbox tho, which essentially is the same thing. If you want to tinfoil about CCPs reasons to remove the /sign, you could say they are directing (diverting) all potential threadnoughts to the CSM.
Either case, it's quite hilarious how fleet fights functioned in Apocrypha, and blantatly obvious it was broken in recent expansions. That CCP keeps developing new stuff instead of trying to find the root of this cause (shouldn't be too hard, no?), is unnerving, to say the least. - I'd tell you why but then I'll have to kill you. And to kill you I'd have to log in. And to log in I'd have to stop browsing these forums. Both you and me knows that'll never happen. |

Originally by: Sandwich PvP Perhaps we simply don't understand CCP's motivation here. If you run off the hardcore players, the the server load drops, and the occasional players and macros get a better gameplay experience. Since server performance has gotten worse over the last couple patches, it would make sense to introduce the lag nerf gradually, to see how many people they drive off.

Perhaps because we pay to play, not to test.
Possibly because we would reasonably expect stress testing to take place prior to, not after a patch.
Maybe because we believe the best thing to do would have been an immediate roll-back to Apocrypha rather than live with lag for this long.
Probably because we understand that CCP sold their souls on the promise of new game launches and glitzy EvE updates, and can't admit to their new cash cow partners that they made a mistake.

CCP reply to save face but fail to let there customers know whats going on!!
'Currently, unsurprisingly, this effort is our No.1 development priority and we have given the specialised team carte blanche in re-attaining 1,000+ player fleet battles that EVE is famous for.'
I guess this must be the 15 dev's that this relates too......the other 107 dev's doing stuff that, tbh, people dont want until the Lag has been sorted out!!
The others!
(4 teams, approximately 15 developers)
Iæve now accounted for 14 teams, but we release plan for 18 teams. So what are the rest doing? Well, we have a team dedicated to testing automation. Currently they are focusing on "fleet fight in a can," which is a borderline sentient AI-testing automation feature that allows us to instantly simulate interesting aspects of massive fleet fights, getting tighter feedback loops to the expert team that is working on improvements on that front (we are talking MIT Ph.D. here). There is a team dedicated to making tools and reporting mechanism for the customer service department. The core infrastructure team (patch delivery mechanisms, among other duties) is in there, and then thereæs a another team dedicated to performance monitoring and improvements.
On top of that we have some (space) cowboys running around injecting code into Tranquility live to debug fleet battles and fix exploits (these are the same people that do code reviews and architectural integrity checks for the EVE codebase). This is where the MIT Ph.D. come into play. This doesnæt fall under the classification of a development team but contains computer scientists, QA people, operational staff and others. They are hard-at-work (often well-outside normal working hours) profiling and diagnosing all sorts of lag-related issues or trying to catch fringe cases that are impossible to reproduce on our test servers. This team will be greatly assisted by the "fleet fight in a can" sentient AI.
Keep up the good work CCP /Sarcasam!!!

If we think about this, didn't Dominion actually brought the exact opposite of what they advertised?
I DEMAND a new expansion called ANTI-DOMINION that will revert all the **** introduced by the Dominion expansion and will make this game playable again!

It was bad enough in Geminate campaign when this was obvious from the start and that was what, nearly a year ago?
Yeap I agree with most posters on here, you would would think that CCP could fix it, right, given they knew what they changed?
So what have we got that has fundamentally improved the game in the last two years (other then fleet finder )?:
1. New sov warfare.. mindless hub protecting/shooting that promotes blobbing the game cannot support? Bring back POS spamming all is forgiven!
2. Alchemy/ hub upgrades / no fixed plexs .. no need to fight over 0.0 resources anymore. Yay.
3. Planetary interaction .. shockingly bad sub game, there are better free games online then this 'thing'. So much potential and ideas wasted on what is basicly just a weak new 'production' feature when it could have been a big part of the sov picture in 0.0. Anyone get the feeling this game was generally better 2 years ago for large alliances? Maybe CCP should just admit they can't support these features with their work to improve it rather then selling this as the main drive of the game. Just bite the bullet admit you where wrong and actually come up with better ways and ideas to handle 0.0 conflict and sov, because the current system is so badly thought out.
What happened to that great commitment to encourage smaller scale raids in 0.0 harming infrastructure and maybe more, you barely got started?

Nice try at damage control CCP, game is still broken, but I'm in an email volly with a PC Gamer editor now. The editor is very amazed at how displeased the customers are at this point in time. He was also asking why a DEV was cleaning this post. My last response back to him was they are trying to hide the truth, expect more of this in the coming days. This is going global CCP, lets see you hide from it now!

Dear CCP. What happens when we 0.0 people decide to take the battle to high-sec? What happens when we introduce random death in highsec as a major alliance competition? When all the newer players are afraid to undock due to massive gank camps in all major hubs. ( of course I may be dreaming, doubt any highsec nodes would survive our blobs anyway) The only fight worth fighting is the one you should lose. |

CCP, you must take us who pvp and came to this game for the promise of epic fights seriously. You are mismanaging your customer base and will soon lose more and more. We don't care about Incarna/ambulation, if we wanted full body avatars we would play another game.
14 years in sales taught me it costs a lot more to gain new customers than keeping existing ones. Its 101 for sales forces in all enterprises around the world!!!!

Well...this isn't exactly the first ever thread about lag in EVE. Or the first thread in any MMO out there running, in development or that have died, about lag. Under most circumstances I've seen most of them. They're usually about the same thing; whining based on isolated instances, lying, hysteria, trolling and just plain bad attitude that give people a kick in just complaining about everything.
Usually I just ignore these threads, a few times I come across threads where I put together, what I think is, well composed responses to answer people's complaints. Now I'm by no means special or anything..my point is just usually I tend to defend CCP..why? Because I try to see things from their point of view and consider that they're people like the rest of us, and usually I think I'm right in what I say.
Having gotten all that out of the way...and having attempted to brain my way through as much as I can, I just simply have to side with everyone else on this one. Yes thats right..I'm finally chiming in with most others about lag. Its getting worse..all the time. I dont know why its getting worse, I dont know why load balancing has turned into 20 people in 1 system *can* cause lag in the *seconds*. From what I know about load balancing, the whole point of it, is to avoid things like that. There is, however, no denying that in my alliance, danish (language channel in EVE), several hi-sec systems I've been through lately..even 1 or 2 low-sec systems, where I keep encountering not only lag, but also tons of people who are complaining and affected by it. Mind you, above the usual margins..way above.
Now I recently got a new computer..a really really really really beefy one. (and expensive..*tear* poor wallet), so EVE is running extremely smoothly even in fleet fights with several hundred people involved, but the lag is still there. Buttons I press dont react..clicks I do dont register..well they do, and the buttons do react, but only after somewhere between 10 -> 30, and sometimes even 90 seconds, under circumstances that are nowhere near what has previously been empirically proven through observation and participation, to cause such delays.
TL:DR - I have to side with everyone else in here and say the lag is way beyond acceptable, even circumstantially speaking.

That article MSN posted in regards to CCP's response is a very clear snubbing of the dedicated customer base.
Whoever said keeping an old customer is way easier than making a new one was dead on.
