Will Hilmar's Keynote presentation be available for viewing to the EVE Online community? Would like to see Hilmar get on stage and look cool! Also, the topic seems interesting! "Dare to be different" sounds off-ly similar to the ending of a cinematic for a particular game we all know and love!

They are daring to be different!
Instead of fixing and polishing current content like everyone else they are working only on new content.
See.
CCP dares to be different!
Boost pi production already!

I think we all pretty much know the grand vision.
Milk the cash cow that is EVE internet spaceship warefare game to develop new content such as sciFi Second Life and console first person shooter, then tie them into EVE trough some lame mechanism like farmville planets or walking around space stations.

It's advertising, and company presentation. Don't realy on it for meaning anything useful to players, or even trust the message. Think we've seen too much cut in pieces or cancelled or delivered badly or even too many attempts of "let's distract people with shiny stuff that barely works for the gameplay"..

Like it or not, the stated vision of eve is a sci-fi simulator. Walking in stations is a project that's been on the back burner for years, eventually you have to invest some serious developer hours to finish it, or it will just stagnate and become a wasted investment. Incarna also allows Eve to widely broaden its appeal (and subscriber base) while still keeping the niche game-play, which is an opportunity CCP can't pass up.
DUST 514 is a separate project, developed in China, that really has nothing to do with Eve development. The fact that they are managing to tie it in with Eve is just a bonus.
CCP has invested over a decade into their game, anyone who says that they just want to "milk the cash cow" are insane, anyone who watches the fanfest stuff can clearly see how passionate they are about Eve.

Eh, yeah, so that is why they picked up remnants of a UK game studio, opened office in Newcastle for Console development, released press releases a few months after gaming community sites announced it on their sites, and are still hiring various positions for Dust 514 development at the Newcastle office ...

Honestly I think ccp's largets problem is it's location. As a geologist I think Iceland is really kicken, and would love to go there, but living there is a problem for a lot of people. If you look at ccp's job page you will see they are looking for lots of developers to work on eve but the one problem is, it's in iceland. I know a few developers myself for some companies, but they have families. So they pass up the opprotunities to stay where they live now rather than relocate their families.
Anyone who has been a military brat knows how hard it can be at times. CCP would have no shortage of eve developers if they could get a full time EvE online developer office in the US or Europe that would work on the same things as the Iceland office.
But there inlies another problem communication and timezones, however with some investment in good cameras and bandwitdth it shouldnt be a problem.

Yeah, and it looks like they tapped the talent pool way too much in Iceland anyway, even if I guess that the Icelandic financial system collapse must have helped them in that regard.
When you look at it, in any other country Reykjavik would be a pretty small city, and you would not expect a hightech company in one, because most people working in hightech just don't consider living in such a place. It's due to various issues like finding a job for their SO, but in my experience mostly because people in hightech chose places where if they get dissatisfied with a job, they just have to cross the street to get a new one.
Reykjavik is anything but that kind of place.

Instead they added significant do dads(PI) to serve as the basis of another game.

My question now is this: basing it off my previous post.
CCP would/have you considered shifting resources to one of your other offices in attempt to hire more people? Or perhaps acquiring a small office say in texas and creating a new dev team out there. You are an international company and the possibilities are endless.
But as stated earlier, i think the big problem of what is holding you back is trying to have everyone go to iceland.
//CCP hawaii or CCP california would be great cause devs could cover US peak times and be able to still be around during Oceania afternoon and early evenings.
/// CCP Hawaii preferred as it has a volcano.

So in your world people who have been doing something for 13 years have no right to pass on any collective wisdom to their professional colleagues?
Player morale isn't low except for the 50 to 100 people that routinely post on the forum. talk about the vocal minority...

I was hoping that in posting this ahead of the talks in china that someone would bring a camera from CCP to record it and upload it to their youtube site for viewing.
The talk is scheduled for the 30th @ 09:00 China Local. However, it also says that he will be giving the same talk at 2 different location at the same time and day??? [One in Meeting Room: Yangtze River Hall and another at Meeting Room: 5B+5C] (source: http://en.chinagdc.com.cn/MeetView.aspx?a=2)

Part 1
Quote: CCP CEO He Erma ò Peterson on "Daring to be different" Publication date :2010-07-30
Constantly enrich the content of the game only to long-term retention of players - Success is the continuous process of rich content CCP is a game company from Iceland, 16 from the beginning to the present hundreds of employees of large companies, CCP went through 13 years, CCP now has its own office in Shanghai, and has more than 100 employees . He Erma Peterson's presentation of this theme is "Daring to be different", he thought the game developers should pay attention to the rise of the concept, should not repeat the previous track, the game offers players the opportunity to set their own process, so the game the changing scene was even more beautiful. He believes that the process of creating a happy process, players have fun in the creative process in order to truly enjoy the game. He Erma Peterson case with EVE's development process point of view interpretation of its own, the first EVE is a very simple theme of the game StarCraft, the game's content is not much, as the game continues to develop, there are already 400 000 online players at the same time, they come from 320 different countries around the world are the same players experience the game version, and they are paying for the game, for such achievements, He Erma Peterson is clearly more satisfied. He Erma Peterson to EVE Online's development process as an example his interpretation of "Daring to be different" point of view. EVE Online is a pay game, there are already 320 different countries from 40 million concurrent players, gamers experience the world is the same version of the game. For reasons of language, the Chinese players have two choices, the experience of the Chinese version of one individual, one connected to the international version of the common experience with players around the world. In order to match the situation in China, the game developers also added some Chinese elements, such as Chinese characters, to allow players more aware of China. He Erma Peterson that the game has two different game idea, one theme park-style, such as World of Warcraft, EverQuest, there are a lot of experience of the story line and get the opportunity, as access to Disneyland, there are many process, players will receive prizes and make new friends; one playground-style, such as EVE online, Ultima online, players such as access to the playground, do not know each other, but can choose to be friends or enemies, not much story story , there is broad space for development. He Erma Peterson in EVE Online found a very interesting phenomenon, in a tremendous amount from the interaction of groups of individuals, it can be observed in a stable complex and large-scale voluntary bodies, such as many fish and bees gathered together, their relationship we do not know, but that is gathered together, the player is like a swarm of bees, all of the people are building their sandcastle, this is the significance of the formation of groups. This non-linear social relations linked to a different partition, so that they can establish contact. Game developers can control only the first battle, the player with the growth, development no way control spontaneous Xing Wei Wan Jia, only provides tools, so that players using different approaches to change and control the world, creating a new world. Developers to put more authority to the players, just to create more tools to help players build their own social mechanisms, such as the Society system, market system, the internal television game, the player mechanism of social. Meanwhile developers through social networking sites like Facebook, the way to strengthen exchanges between players, their real-life connection with the game of life together and find some from the real place to Zhiru can learn the game, brought people closer is smooth.

Part the rest of it.
Quote: To make people more personalized, EVE Online has the help of NVIDIA's help, the person's face, clothing and so do a more complete design, such as wrinkles adjust to changes in facial bone, constantly changing clothes , and the action changes the hair and clothes are in accordance with reality simulation, real-time calculus. Finally, He Erma Peterson to show the Shanghai studio is developing the DUST of the video, DUST and the EVE Online world are closely linked, creating an ever-expanding universe. As a derivative, EVE players DUST players can be linked with the planets and outer space connection, in a universe with a communication platform will be open to expanding the community to build a broader universe. He Erma Peterson with his own words, "to rely on your staff for a long time to build a game, which is continuous development process, establish a social system, can continue to develop unique and sustainable development EVE, can exist forever, and we must seize the trend of players, according to their needs constantly moves forward. "
CCP CEO Hilmar V. Petursson Keynote Speech He Erma Peterson, CEO of CCP Games
Established in 1997, the CCP has been a dream of creating the core based on spontaneous behavior of the high degree of freedom the game. Compared to artificially set a good story line game, this game is always more meaningful to players and more stable gaming experience. CCP 2003, the birth of its flagship product EVE Online to make this dream a reality (English version called "EVE"). After 7 years, EVE has become a European market, the total number of people paying the monthly fee for the system's second large-scale online games, and continued to win industry praise. Based on this successful experience, CCP's ambition is also widening, the company embarked on the rapid pace of global expansion. Division of the company in Atlanta, Shanghai, China Division and the Division of Newcastle have been established, the company brings strong personnel support, and to the global team added a new dimension. The top talent to join so that companies can also develop two major new products, including highly disruptive massively multiplayer online shooting game DUST 514. To listen to the CCP's CEO He Erma Peterson to share with you "have the courage to succeed" story, he said in his speech, this small company from Iceland, CCP never show off great future ideal.

OR MAYBE ... there are secret china only eve servers and the real reason for the lag are the 40 m Chinese users playing Eve 2
Or maybe, since the site was in chinese that there is a translation problem.

The most likely explanation in my opinion. Chinese is complex enough to cause issues with any translation software.

China IS on a separate server.
The Chinese gov doesn't want them talking to us in a communication channel they can't control. They also have limits on play time etc.

Dude ... come on it was a JOKE! does sarcasm have no place on the internet any more??? playing "EVE 2" and secretly consuming our resources?!? I may appear crazy, but really?

Not the presentation you're looking for.
The above is a presentation/panel that Hilmar was a part of at Princeton earlier this year. His presentation begins at about 37:00.
Watching the entire presentation (90min) the panelist I'd like in charge of CCP is... =vinur allra manna

Thanks KaarBaak,
As you said, not what I'm looking for; however, its nice to see that the founder of EVE Online gets just as awkward reactions when he tries to introduce EVE Online to someone new as the rest of us do!

You mean except for the thousands of players from every part of the game who've expressed their opinion in the assembly hall Excellence thread?
Drop the 'vocal minority' nonsense. You're just repeating what you've read other people saying. If people choose not to express their views, then that is no-ones problem but their own.

I think CCP is irrationally scared of SWTOR, and are rushing to get an avatar/"ground" game into EVE at least in a basic form before it reaches beta/launches.
And so they are throwing everything including the kitchen sink into Incarna... Which is all well and good, but it shouldn't come at the expense of the stability and playability of the current live game.
Also, the threat of SWTOR is overrated. From what I am reading it is going to be a themepark single player game with a multiplayer option, no open areas, and without real space combat, so I don't think EVE will take more than a short term hit over it.

Oops, my bad. Need to practise my google-fu. But as far as I can tell they still want to merge them at some point in the future (when Chinese law allows it), just not right now. Off topic : Would be cool if they made the Chinese server a parallel universe. Poke around a wormhole and pop out in a galaxy that's identical to TQ, but with completely different culture, alliances, etc.
