I've heard about and seen some characters with Tycoon V, and even some players with multiples of them running around. Just how does one keep track of all those orders? What kind of trade strategy is used for it, as it obviously very different from update heavy trading, or even traditional speculation. I'm not sure the "place 20m worth of everything" on the top station strategy is worth the effort.
So, any Tycoons can enlighten this n00b?

For regional reproc orders you never have too many slots and updating goes fast once used to it.Got 300+ orders but only takes me 20 minutes to update that when done daily so not really a pain to do.Used to have 500+ once but that gave me a trade burnout after half a year.

Dont really have a problem as I trade in slow moving stuff in area that doesnt need updating market orders as frequently as for example Jita. Usually have between 250 and 305 (max) orders open. I guess it all depends what and where you trade in, and that results in frequency of updating all those orders. As poster above me said, it takes 20 min tops. |

It is also possible to use fire and forget method..
THus you just work from your chosen range of diversity and mainly use the wallet to focus actions..
Sold 100M TRT show in wallet.. Right click reset buy orders ranged according to your margin. Close and repeat..
This way you can also minimize the frustration on endless micro bids since you have a rather set and fixed margin in mind.. This can cause a few of the WTF why are you undercutting and destroying the market donchian/margin..
The answer is.. I made my profit if I am now also disrupting yours.. I guess its WIN WIN..

I have 4 traders and each of them have Tycoon 5. I generally use the "Fire and Forget" strategy on a large range of products with 3 of the traders in 3 different regions, then use the 4th purely for sell orders in various regions depending on the item. The 4th makes around 300mil a day and transfers ISK to the buyers to keep the flow going. Items that don't sell well, I generally just reprocess if I get too many of them (more than 3000 units) and re-invest. In all, I probably spend 1 day a month on each of the 3 buyers where I just cancel all buy orders and setup new ones as the market changes rapidly (and adjusting orders takes too long). The 4th I logon once a week, collect stuff, move to where I want to sell and setup sell orders. The rest of the time I spend on my two PvP toons spending the ISK I make by dying often in expensive rigs
The main thing you need to know if you are going to handle large amounts of orders is what things are basically worth and what drops in the region you are buying in. Having a CovOps to sneak into low sec systems to collect high value stuff is also advantageous.
Enjoy.

I have a total of 1000+ orders, the trick I use is easy to replicate, I just play this song on repeat while updating orders, that way I keep my sanity! YouTube Link

I juggled over 3000 orders on 14+ Tycoon V characters for over a year with the assistance of EMMA. There is a tool in there called the Item Detail explorer which was crafted to help manage these situations where you're trading a bunch of roughly similar items across 2+ regions.
I know there are guys doing 2-3x as much trading and using EMMA to manage it too.
They also added some order managing stuff to Eve-Mon but I can't say whether it's useful.
