"Walking in stations," yeah, I got it.
But why? What are we supposed to do in stations? And do we have to?
You know some pilots are around for 7 years and they really really REALLY need a shower.

It tests the engine they're going to use for their next MMO.

I agree that the lack of association with human avatars in Eve is a weakness in terms of immersion. I think it takes a lot more than slapping a 3D environment on top though. Whether or not CCP can do that has yet to be seen.
Most talk about Incarna has been the technical side, thats the easy part. How they intend to integrate it with Eve is something we heard very little about. I don't think bars, clothing and virtual poker will accomplish much.
We need to actually be forced to walk around with those avatars if they are to have any major significance. The more optional it gets, the less purpose it serves.
I'm sure it can be done, Im not so sure CCP is willing to do what it takes.
Well what is immersive for one person may not be for another. In one of the demos they showed that offices can be rented and players may gather there. For me, just hanging around in the corp office and talk things through already adds to the immersion. Seeing "people" in 3D instead of an avatar also adds to the richness of my gameplay. Being able to change clothes and look how you want to look, personally I see myself as a person and not as my ship.
Other people only want to kill other people or they find it all useless and a waste of time.
Oh I very much agree on that. Very often when MMOs feel 'alive' its due to random, unscripted life. Talking with corp mates in the office would add a lot of immersion I think.
But I doubt those random moments would happen much unless there are other more specific purposes. MMOs with avatars generally struggle a lot with demographics and how to keep areas alive. People simply don't meet in places unless they absolutely need to be there for some reason. But if they need to be there all sorts of other stuff happens.
A bar wont make any kind of life, a 'physical' market interface that people need to walk to would make people hang out at the nearby airlock.

I hope this stuff is optional and people are not bothered searching the station for the market place just to buy some ammo, or renew insurance, repair drones and stuff...

But why? What are we supposed to do in stations? And do we have to?
I don't want to walk around in stations. I have a space ship. I like my space ship. I want to fly it around. Stations are for doing things in that are for the benefit of my space ship. I want to stay with my space ship.
If I wanted to play Let's Walk Around And Stuff, I'd be playing another game. I own a bunch of games that involve walking around and doing various things. I play *this* game because I want to fly around in a space ship doing space ship things.
I fear Incarna. I fear it making me not want to play this game any more - in contrast to a friend of mine, for whom Incarna might make him want to start. I'm not saying Incarna is a threat to the subscription base, I'm saying Incarna worries me and makes me sad.
Do we know what it's actually *about*?
I'm sure you are one of those people who will give it a try sooner or later and will enjoy it.
Anyway:
You like it: you use it. You don't like it: you don't use it and the game as you now know it will not change at all.

Opportunity cost. Would you rather have new clothing textures or new ship skins? Would you rather have a new GUI for WiS or updates to the existing ship GUI? Would you rather have devs optimizing FPS frame rates or fixing Fleet lag?
It's like the whole in-game browser, jukebox, calculator, etc. apps. If you run in windowed mode, you have access to 3rd party web browsers, mp3 players, calculators (aka spreadsheets,) etc., which are better than the in-game ones. Why "waste" time creating a poor in-game copy of existing 3rd party apps?

Really? Really? Next time you log in look at the people you're talking with.
Then answer these simple questions.
Are you docked? Are they docked? Are you both docked at the same place?
If the answer to any of these is no then you will not be using Ambulation to solcialize.
With the current social tools in EvE you can do _anything_ and socialize. With Ambulation you can do _nothing_ but socialize.

For any of those things on your wish list to matter, EVE has to continue as an ongoing virtual world. To do that CCP has no option but to do its best to increase subscriber numbers. If it fails to do this CCP won't get new funding, won't get old funding renewed, and will get a net fall in subscription numbers. It is vital to secure new subscriptions as otherwise EVE really will die (TM).
With CCP having limited resources, and with the success of incarna being pretty damn vital to EVE's long-term success, I for one am pleased that CCP are allocating pretty much everything to incarna. I've been in plenty of fleet fights. Lag makes them suck donkey balls. But you gotta see the bigger picture.

Gambling and poker, bars, that really cool tabletop war game CCP showed us at fanfest, real corp meetings with people instead of tiny icons in chat channels, expanded roleplay/story possibilities, more stuff to spend my isk on which is good for the economy (clothes, shop blueprints, furniture, NPC rent, ect), shops with programmable NPCs that are far more robust that contracts, and generally cool moments like everyone meeting up to spectate the alliance tournament together while brokers take bets (can you imagine the Impoc going down in a station with eve-voice?).
Those are some of the things I'm looking forward to :)

None of this requires ambulation. Why exclude, traders, miners, haulers, campers, mission runners from these things? Won't all of these features be better if they're accessable from anywhere rather than requiring you to travel somewhere and stop playing them to use?
Quote: real corp meetings with people instead of tiny icons in chat channels,
Yes it's novel but after the first time are you really going to want to? Remember right now you can take part in that corp meeting and do _anything_ you want. With ambulation you have to stop doing what you're doing, travel somewhere, and then sit there only able to listen. That's a nerf not a buff. Sure fun the first time then utter *****.
Quote: expanded roleplay/story possibilities,
The last 30+ years of roleplaying games directly counters this point.
Quote: more stuff to spend my isk on which is good for the economy (clothes, shop blueprints, furniture, NPC rent, ect), shops with programmable NPCs that are far more robust that contracts,
None of this requires ambulation. Some of this has never been mentioned and is pure fiction created by the author. This is the prime example of the problem with ambulation. People apply this wishful thinking about what they think and want it to be and completely ignore what CCP has said it will be.
Quote: and generally cool moments like everyone meeting up to spectate the alliance tournament together while brokers take bets (can you imagine the Impoc going down in a station with eve-voice?).
This has been done for years with the existing system. In fact you couldn't do this with Ambulation because CCP has stated you can't look out windows. You wouldn't be able to see the tourney!

Incarna is one of the expansions I have been waiting for since it was a rumor. I really can't was to get to play with it because it has large role-play value. You will be surprised what it will bring into our game, I say our game because we all play a part of it. Now where will I put that strip club now.

lol You really believe that?
The vast majority of money gained from new expansions goes directly back into the next expansion.
It's a marketing loop. No existing feature will ever again be balanced or finished as CCPs strategy is to release half finished, broken, product for 5 years and then spend 6 months on half-assed fixes.

Just LOL!
At the moment the spaceshipguys are paying for the WHOLE SHOW, alone. No other subscribers. No untapped resources. Get a clue.
If your statement where anyhow close to reality CCP would need to double it's employee base after DUST hits.. I got my doubts on this.

Only thing I don't like about incarna is that it caters to station huggers, get us a way to get them out of the station via walking in station and I'll be happy(Like starting a brawl and getting both of you thrown out) ---

That's the one thing I'm afraid of.
Seeing that CCP isn't exactly building up an excellent reputation what inmproving and polishing features are concerned I really wonder what we're going to get.
Worst case scenario: we can walk in stations but the shop feature won't get developed. Corp offices don't work and don't get fixed. Minigames are buggy. CCP does nothing and dedicates the majority of its devs to some new feature like astronomic mapmaking.
