The cynical voice in my head says that the NCAA levied such large and dramatic fines as a distraction from the ongoing Sports/Money versus Education debate in college sports, and also so the NCAA can point to Penn State as a counter argument that the NCAA doesn't put sports above everything else.
Also, how exactly does voiding previous wins work? Is anyone going to really believe that Penn State didn't win those games?
You can tell me what is and isn't Truth when you pry the tinfoil from my cold, lifeless head.

They'll have underclassmen bailing soon enough, like rats off a sinking ship. The lack of scholarships and no prospect for bowl games won't attract much new talent either. The Big Ten has a new punching bag for the next decade or so, Indiana has got to be stoked.

the pessimistic cynic in me thinks their reasoning isn't entirely up-front ...
but the optimistic cynic in me thinks that it will stop other schools from ignoring similar cases in the future.

This stuff happens all the time, everywhere. People just look the other way and don't talk about it. I can't tell you how many times girls were more interested in their coaches than me.

There are two kinds of relationships I will never understand.
Fathers who are way over protective of their 20something daughters.
&
Coaches who are way to intimate with their girls.
Both are major cockblocks for sure but they are also inappropriate.

i would be mad if i were a penn state fan, your team loses out like this all because some freak wanted to bang kids, people bang kids every day, and unluckily for penn state fan, one of those people was their D coordinator. I think I would abandon my college if something like this happened there, the stigma is overpowering and its never going away, I think it set them back 20 years. |
