Edited by: FisherNab on 31/07/2010 18:38:47 So last night i bit the bullet and bought myself a missile spamming pingu(tengu). Off i went and fit HML's to it and thought it would be easy. Then i noticed there are 4 types of missile. Im from an amarr background and this threw me. Im running missions in caldari space, is there something im missing?
And would i be better using HAM's? and lastly, is there anyway to work out the maximum range of your missiles?
*Waits for several flaming posts before i get a decent answer*
Thanks in advance

Well, the four missiles I assume are the damage types. Use http://eve-survival.org to decide which is best for the missions you are running.

The 4 missile types correspond to the EM/thermal/kinetic/explosive damage types. Missile boats get to choose their damage type for free, apparently. You can check http://eve.grismar.net/rats/index.php?navigate_rat_nav=next or http://eve-survival.org/wikka.php?wakka=MissionReportsLevel4 for the best damage type to use against various rats.
To calculate missile range, just multiply the velocity by the flight time, or take the more sensible option and just load your fit into EFT which will do the grunt work for you.

In fitting screen - mouseover a launcher with missiles in it, hit the 1st blue Info [charge Info] - multiply missile velocity by max flight time - and Robert is your father's brother :) 90% of that number is a good guide. 90% as your target is probably moving so the missile is not going in a straight line. . All generalisations are false - Discuss.

Also, depending how you fit the TEngu ballistic missiles get a damage bonus.
However I think you shouldn't take the Tengu out as your first missile ship, unless you've got money to spare in which case you owe me some.

Yea, if ur new to missiles play with a raven first.
And only if you like that, then tengu.
Most will tell you a cnr or golem is better for high sec L4's than a tengu.

Me and a friend are planning to use 2 standard t2/cheap fit tengu's to blast lvl 4's in to fit both a pimped out tengu and a CNR via lotaly points. I know this is probably a hard way to do it but im sure two missile spammers orbitting at 70km throwing heavys about should work well. Or i hope they do :P.
cheers guys

Don't forget the accelration time of the missiles. I can't find the link but you can't multiply it in a simple way. The flight time is correct but the speed starts from 0m/s at launch to topspeed of the missile. So in fact by multiplying those values you won't come to your exact range. Even if the target would be standing still.
