On 2010/07/31 at 20:00 server time, I organized a mining run in the Odatrik system to raise some ISK for a new Mammoth for one of our corpmates. Ehnea Mehk was in a probe, and I was in my trusty Mammoth.
Everything was going smoothly. Ehnea and I were commenting on the many ships that passed through the belt. A Brutix, piloted by Astra Vidya of ORDO INVICTUS, caught Ehnea's eye (Ehnea likes checking out the ships while mining). However, instead of clicking the Look At icon, Ehnea clicked the target lock. The target lock was turned off, and Ehnea apologized for the lock in local.
However, Astra must have felt threatened by Ehnea in the very dangerous probe, so she targeted both our vessels. She also called in a corpmate, Ansgar Thorulf, to bring his typhoon in to deal with the marauding probe. We were chased around the asteroids for a few seconds before he deployed a Large Rudimentary Concussion Bomb I on our vessels. My Mammoth had a good fit (I love armor!) so it only got scratched. However, the menace that was Ehnea was neutralized and New Eden was saved when the probe was destroyed. We felt bad about Ansgar losing his battleship when CONCORD came in to deal with him. Seriously. We really did feel bad. So we said in local, "Good shot" and warped back to HQ.
Ehnea was going to return to get what was left of the Typhoon when I said, "No no, ORDO INVICTUS is frightened of probes. Go back in your capsule and bookmark it for me. If you get podded, just buy yourself a new Zeta and charge it back to me".
Off Ehnea went. But, once again, panic came. I feel bad about this. REALLY! I had no idea Astra and Ansgar had a pod phobia in addition to a probe phobia. Ehnea's pod was destroyed but so were both of their ships, once again, by CONCORD. Ehnea ws reborn in a new updated clone, then flew back in a rookie ship.
I reprimanded Ehnea for being such a terror! This is bad press for my corporation! I do not want to be regarded as the next Helicity of EVE! As CEO, I took sole responsibility of this horrible mess, and went out to get what was left of Ehnea's cargo and what was in the ORDO INVICTUS wrecks.
Now, one would think I would be mad about losing a probe and having my mining operation disrupted. Not so. Instead, I would like to say the following to ORDO INVICTUS:
1) I'm sorry if Ehnea's target lock led to the tragic loss of your ships. Battleships are expensive. I hope they were insured. And you had every right of being frightened of Ehnea and the probe. Ehnea is one mean son-of-a-Sebiestor. Then again, that's why I made Ehnea Director Of Operations. And with the facial tattoos, Ehnea resembles a wolverine high on PCP. The Probe flown was full of rust and duct tape. You guys could have gotten tetanus if it came too close!
2) I'm sorry you lost your cargo (sob). It was really good cargo though! Close to a million ISK when all of it was sold! We used the sale of your cargo to buy the mammoth I mentioned earlier. The ore from our mining operation will go to outfitting a Scythe for mission running. This will earn us more ISK! We thank you for your generousity in funding our corporation's operation!
3) No hard feelings about the probe. We make those as part of our product line. We'll make another one for Ehnea to fly. And Ehnea has been a pretty good sport through all of this. The new probe will be named in your corporation's honor: INVICTUS' FOLLY.
4) You must really be feeling bad about how things have gone so wrong for you. Having CONCORD paste your backsides as we watched. All because you panicked over an accidental target lock. Don't be. No one at ODATRIK Mining Corporation thinks you behaved like frightened children who overreacted and ended up losing so much over nothing. REALLY.
As CEO of Odatrik Mining Corporation and on behalf of the membership of our company, we apologize SINCERELY for the loss of your ships and for any inconvenience our corporation may have caused you.

No, it was not a "suicide ganker". When I accidentally targeted that ship, they came after us in anger. They lost their temper.
Pehk was trying to show in humor what happens when people overreact without considering the consequences. It was a costly (at least 66 million for those two ships and a security hit) and stupid way to learn it. All they had to do was ask in private what my game was and I would have told them I'm an idiot. Ehnea Mehk |

I kind of enjoyed this episode of "As the roid turns". It has been written a little too 'swollen' and the sarcasm is dripping out of my monitor so the writer overdid himself a little there, but otherwise a great episode. I agree with everything Barakkus posts. |

Is this the thread to post crap? Sure seems like it.
I killed some foolish kestrel after it had spent 10 minutes casually ratting the belts in the system I was chilling in. This person seems to like losing ships in low sec and appears to have no regard for safety. I feel slightly bad but really what was he thinking?
It dropped crap loot so I told him he can come back for his stuff. When he came back in a velator and continued to idle in belts for another 10 minutes it broke my heart.
I am not a bad person IRL

Pekh,
sure i gank probes what do you gank? Titans?
i was on your homepage and read ur pretty funny point-of-view of this incident and all i can say is that you definately have to learn the difference of loosing a ship by accident or on purpose. Of course me and my buddy knew that Concord would hit us back when we opened fire , has it ever come to your mind that nor me or my buddy care about a loss of 60 million isk in a suicide gank? that¦s not even close to what i earn per day. look up in the killmail what my phoon had fittet and then tell all the people here again that that was an accident. it was fitted for a suicide gank
@ least we got that pod that¦s all we wanted. so it was ok for us and now that you have a new mammoth i guess it was ok for you too. Stop making a fool out of yourself and thanks for all the laughs i had reading your homepage.
Hope you achieve your gold medal thing or whatever you called it

I'm not gloating. I am VERY skeptical of the explanation given and I see enough holes in that explanation big enough to drive my Mammoth through so I am questioning them.
Look, I'm a good sport about this. I've had my fun, and I got my point across. To be fair and show that I am not gloating, ORDO INVICTUS has received into their corporate account the cost of their cargo that I "found" and sold.

Ansgar, I'm sorry but that is not how things happened. You left out some stuff. Here is what happened for the record:
I locked Astra's ship by mistake when I tried to look at it close up. When I realized I locked the ship, I unlocked it and posted this in local (this comes from my chat logs):
[ 2010.07.31 22:53:22 ] Ehnea Mehk > sorry, wrong target
Immediately after my lock, Astra locked on Pehk and I (after sitting there in the belt mining for the last half hour) and began to move toward my Probe. Astra, not you, made the first aggressive motion. I began to circle Pehk's Mammoth. I saw you arrive shortly after, and you and Astra started chasing us for about maybe 10 to 15 seconds. We went into the asteroid belt to see if we could mess up your chasing. Then I heard the big bang and got the following in my combat log:
2010.07.31 22:57:00
Victim: Ehnea Mehk Corp: ODATRIK MINING CORPORATION Alliance: Unknown Faction: Unknown Destroyed: Probe System: Odatrik Security: 0.8 Damage Taken: 156
Involved parties:
Name: Ansgar Thorulf (laid the final blow) Security: 4.0 Corp: ORDO INVICTUS Alliance: NONE Faction: NONE Ship: Typhoon Weapon: Large Rudimentary Concussion Bomb I Damage Done: 156
We were good sports about it. We posted the following:
[ 2010.07.31 22:57:27 ] Ehnea Mehk > good shot [ 2010.07.31 22:57:39 ] Pehk Mak'mel'ahma > very good shot [ 2010.07.31 22:57:45 ] Pehk Mak'mel'ahma > sorry about your vessels [ 2010.07.31 22:57:53 ] Pehk Mak'mel'ahma > we will come back for the salvage later
I wanted to go back and get what was left behind, but Pehk told me to go in my pod, just to see if you guys were in fact mad at me for the lock. Sure enough, you reacted as expected and blew my pod to pieces. I AM glad Pehk gave me clone money or I would have sued his Traders butt for dangerous workplace environment:
2010.07.31 23:05:00
Victim: Ehnea Mehk Corp: ODATRIK MINING CORPORATION Alliance: Unknown Faction: Unknown Destroyed: Capsule System: Odatrik Security: 0.8 Damage Taken: 480
Involved parties:
Name: Astra Vidya (laid the final blow) Security: -2.4 Corp: ORDO INVICTUS Alliance: NONE Faction: NONE Ship: Brutix Weapon: Limited Neutron Blaster I Damage Done: 322
Name: Ansgar Thorulf Security: -0.1 Corp: ORDO INVICTUS Alliance: NONE Faction: NONE Ship: Unknown Weapon: Typhoon Damage Done: 158
Pehk went out to get the stuff and came back. Funny how he came back unscathed.
You know, Ansgar, sometimes you can say things to yourself enough times and make yourself believe it. I've tried that myself once like saving over and over "the dentist will not hurt me when she takes out my back teeth" so I believe it enough so I can get my back teeth taken out.
But there are some things you can say over and over and you still will not believe it because it flies in the face of facts:
- The sky is not blue, it is really pink. - I won the lottery today, I do not have to go to work any more
Then there is your statement that it had nothing to do with my lock. You can say it over and over as much as you like, in the hope people will start to believe it. But you are leaving out one teeny tiny little detail. I was there. I knew the sequence of events because I was the one that locked Astra's ship and I have the chat logs and combat log to show otherwise.
I do agree with one thing you said. You will see us again in the Odatrik system because that's where we do most of our stuff. What happened is not going to put us off that practice. Feel free to come over sand say "Hi". We might even give you a probe to blow up Ehnea Mehk |

War has been declared on ODATRIK Mining Corporation! No Way Out Or In Declares War Against ODATRIK MINING CORPORATION From: CONCORD Sent: 2010.08.04 15:40
No Way Out Or In has declared war on ODATRIK MINING CORPORATION. Within 24 hours fighting can legally occur between those involved.
As CEO of ODATRIK Mining Corporation, I accept this challenge. This is our greatest test since Hulkaggedon. If the corporation survives and we weather the storm, it will show that this corporation is unbreakable and invincible. As I know it is.
I repeat my previous vow that this great corporation will not be intimidated.
We will NOT be run out of the ODATRIK system. This is our home. We will NOT close the office. We have rights to be here. We will NOT recant our previous comments about ORDO INVICTUS. They overreacted...badly...to a misunderstanding and they must bear the shame for that overreaction. We will NOT halt our regular mining, ratting and salvage operations. We are Minmatar. We are strong. We are eternal.
We WILL prevail!
Pehk
that is what i took from his own Corp site. what i have to say on this:
We will NOT be run out of the ODATRIK system. This is our home. *even before the war started, you where running from 2 of my members
We will NOT close the office. We have rights to be here. *dont need to close it, you can sit in there as long as you like!
We will NOT recant our previous comments about ORDO INVICTUS. They overreacted...badly...to a misunderstanding and they must bear the shame for that overreaction. *i want to add something to you, you are looking like a small child who`s sister pinched him, and starting to cry to mammie. trying to play with the grown ups, but as you know, how you react on the forums is not how the grown ups play!.
We will NOT halt our regular mining, ratting and salvage operations. We are Minmatar. We are strong. We are eternal. *1. you already hiding, so you stopped it already *2. Duc-taped ships, when you fly harder then 10 m/s you the duc-tape will fall off! *3. if your so strong, why hiding?
We WILL prevail! lol, Veni, vidi, vici *for those with lesser aducation, or never heard from Ceasar it means: I came, I saw, I conquered*
i give you a offer, you are saying that you can make great ammounts of isk, so i will ask you for 100 million and we will retract the war dec, next to it, you need to stop posting small childish things on the forums.
or, you disband your corp, fly far away from Odatrik and start playing the game with Honour and grown up. get playing for real, and not for 1 million profit for a full day of work!. get your game up! or play Farmville or something like that!
friendly regards Phantom.
Ps, you really need to start and study fittings. know the fit for ganking, tanking and off course Suicide Ganking. next to it, its for a SB (smartbomb) handy to be in range, so indeed they needed to follow you!!
*the sky can be coulourd from organe to pink, with the right weather, and the correct sun, and dont forget about the Nothren Lights, those are on the sky as well!!
*You can believe you won the lottry, and stop working, Soon enough they come to collect money you dont have! But for a while you believed you won the lottery!

Phantoms Wife.
There is no disgrace or dishonour from evading someone with the intention to destroy you. In fact, as quoted from "Surviving a War Declaration" written by Friedrick Psitalon:
"Sometimes running away is both the bravest and smartest choice you can make. There are several choices available for you as well. They all focus on the same concept: A corporation that is declaring war on you for fun and profit wants targets. If they don't have any, they'll get bored and go away. Even if wardecs are a paltry sum, it's silly to pay them with no returns."
EVE Online is not about having the biggest ship or the most powerful weapon to beat your enemy. It's about surviving in New Eden by outwitting your opponent through strategy. If my corporation prospers while still evading hostiles, then we won the WARDEC without a shot being fired.
In addition to Ehnea's post above that sums up nicely what transpired, I've stated my position oft times in both the forums and on our website so I am not going to repeat them again. I stand by them.
Your attempt at extortion has been refused. We will not pay one ISK to you and (of course within the guidelines of the player agreement) we will continue to do things our way.
That's final.

Pehk Your corp has 10 rifters along with named t1 equiv. of top rated t2 solo pvp rifter fit for all 10. And ammo, all on the way.
The hell with running this is video game now go give them big PEHKER!!!!
And should you carebear miners actually show gumption and I see some killmails, no matter whose side as long as there's action,
I would strongly consider funding this.. well.. war-ish type drama to it's conclusion.

Love the story..love even more the drama behind it...love the most: Underneath it all (and completely ignored) are protests from Astra Vidya and Ansgar Thorulf that "We, uh, meant to do that."
Oh, and Phantoms wife...before you speak of anyone with a lesser *Education*...consult the spell checker. You lose a bit of credibility.

This is awesome.
The bit where you claim victory for suiciding a probe. And a pod. Do you also take pride in your awesome macho prowess when you take lunch money from six-year-olds?
Rock on, Odatrik Mining. Pay no attention to the epeen-wavers who deride you for the small scale of your operations - I'm getting the impression you're having more fun than they are, which means you are, in fact, winning at EVE.

Xereyn, thank you for your support. We have received many comments like yours since the WARDEC began. It is gratefully acknowledged. Some players are even helping us out in things we used to do ourselves. Of course they get the better share of ISK but I am more than happy to give that share to them for stepping up to the plate and helping us. And we made a lot of good ISK today.
And yes, we are having fun about this, especially since all of this started off with an accidental target lock that could have been immediately resolved in private instead of a probe being blown up out of panic.

After Joe, here's you forcing me to be a spelling **** today ...
It isn't my custom at all but I can't help it when people fail at spelling words like "education" when trying to belittle others. (I won't blame you for spelling "Caesar" wrong though. That one is nasty.)
Also Caesar would have been really pimp if the order of words in his quote would have been "Vidi, vici, veni" (With your higher education you must be able to work that one out).
Probably in before lame Sun-Tzu's 'Art of War' quotes.
I agree with everything Barakkus posts. |

Why would you go for a mammoth and a... probe?
Fascinating story and way to go to hide your lack of compentency in (attempted) ganking of worthless high-sec targets lol!

He went after us because my corpmate Ehnea accidentally target-locked on to Astra Vidya's Brutix when all Ehnea wanted to was to get a closer look at it, using the "Look At" feature. This has been our position from the very beginning, even throughout the WARDEC launched by Ansgar Thorulf's alliance "No Way Out Or In". Ehnea's own chat and kill log confirms this.
I wouldn't necessarily call it incompetence, but I would definately call it an overreaction, maybe even a temper fit. Further proof of that overreaction is shown when he hired an alliance made up of 95 players (including his own corporation) to wage a war against a 4 player mining corp with no PvP experience. This alliance gave us an ultimatum to pay 100 million ISK or disband my corp and leave Odatrik.
But we did better than they hoped. We are making good ISK right now, and working with other players throughout New Eden. This is a epic fail on No Way Out Or In's part on a PR and optics scale. When this WARDEC is over (and it will end...it is basically a tax on them right now), people are going to ask just how tough this alliance is if they cannot break a 4 player mining corp. Ansgar Thorulf and his new friends may find themselves on the receiving end of a WARDEC by those same people asking that question in the future..
All because of an accidental target lock.
Hmm...perhaps this is a case of incompetence after all.

I'd dec Ordo Invictus, but I don't want to waste 50mil on their pathetic alliance.
Feel free to dec my corp though, I know you've already wasted 50mil deccing Odatrik

Didn't read really, but did a 80man alliance wardec a 4 man corp or something?
For what purpose?
Too many walls of text, TL;DR pls.

TL;DR: Roaming BS and BC suicide gank a dangerous Probe and Mammoth. Their intention from the start was to throw away 60+ mil in ships and gear to take out a sub-100k Probe. Then the gankers rightfully fear for their lives from this 4-man mining corp and get their 95-man alliance to war-dec them, with a fair request for 100mil in payment for their suffering.
I for one genuinely enjoyed this story. When I log on later I'll be renaming my own Probe Invictus' Bane in honor of these brave pod-pilots' sacrifice to rid EVE of dangerous Probes and make it a safer place for all!

I like kinda like sorta liked this umm story at first, ya know?!...but then it like, ummm, got too long and stuff.
BTW, I agree, the Dorko Invictus dweebs protest too much. 'we meant to sacrifice our ships on a worthless probe/pod' bwaaahhhahahaha
BTW, I might just come down and check out the yellowboxing action. I want to see if I can get a killmail by simple target lock antics.
*furiously searching maps and calulating hop numbers to see if it's worth it
