I loved both Freespace and Freespace 2. In fact I just downloaded Freespace 2 again from BT, one of the CD's of my original copy got *****ed and I haven't been able to play it since =(
Both great games though, the best space combat sim I've ever played. It's a shame it had to end before FS3 came out.
I remember weaving around enemy fighters picking off Helios warheads before they hit my capital ship, then pulling a quick 180 to rip apart a pursueing Basilisk and hitting the afterburners while launching countermeasures as missile warnings sounded on my HUD. Or TAGing an enemy fighter and watching my capital ship's beam turrets pulverise it an instant later, while flak shells exploded all around me. Massive beams washing over capital ships and cruisers, totally vaporizing an enemy fighter that happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time in the process.
Or dashing through Shivan space piloting a stolen Shivan fighter, trying to avoid detection while scanning subsystems of the massive Sathanas class juggernauts, while Sathanas after Sathanas jumped into the system mounting for a full scale attack on Capella.
Was a great game =)

Nah you can find the iso's of the disks out there, specifically on Bittorrent is where I got mine. And this isn't illegal, because I bought the game the day it hit the shelves ;)
In fact, I convinced my parents to buy a new computer just so I could play it =D

The replayability is there, with FRED2 you can create your own missions and even your own campaigns, just need to get some people to put some of those together and it's like a whole new game again =)

lol the first time I played the last mission I tried desperatly to keep all the ships alive, I must have redone the mission a dozen times before I finally kept every transport except for 1 alive, only to find out it didn't matter one bit =P
Heck even multiplayer was a great time, I'm still ****ed they didn't make a Freespace 3 =(
