Hey guys. How's it going?
Lots of people in Rookiehelp and Help ask how to scan down a signature using probes to 100% and then warp to it. The trick is to use 4 or more probes to overlap while shrinking down the blue spheres. I finally got mine to 100% and wanted to share to anyone new who was having trouble like I was how to set things up. The fourth probe was kinda out of alignment but I got what I needed anyhoo....
I hope this helps someone out.

Oh yeah...just in case you were thinking, "Hey Weesa, why do you only have the probe launcher on your burst?" Well. funny story that. My previous ship had more including the probe launcher but when I found the signal the first time, I clicked the wrong entry in the scanner and warped to an angel base and got blowed up to bits real good. Yeah, I thought it was kinda funny too on my way back in my pod. So I had to buy a new launcher. Good thinmg I had a spare burst already at that station.

A nice clean plus/diamond shape, with 4 directional handles pointed to the center, works FAR better than random placement, and is FAR, FAR, FAR easier to move as a group. Some people (so I hear) have luck with a square (each probe at a corner, "pointing" at two others, but I get better overlap and better results out of a diamond. Keep them all on the same plane, and just move the whole formation to center, shrink, overlap, scan, repeat. _____ Rhistel Alaice Chancellor and Founder, Alaice Enterprises |

I didn't know you could move the probes as a group. Do you shift click on the probes themselves, or in the listing in the Scan window? Or am I completely off the track?

A far superior pattern. Just pretend the planet is a signature. ---

A tetrahedron has better signal strength, but is a huge pain to manage. I only resort to it for really difficult signatures (when I'm not in a scanning ship).
Using the diamond pattern is FAR easier to quickly locate a signature: EVE Online: Scanning Guide Tutorial

I'd just add that whatever pattern you opt for (as long as it is symetrical), do a scan at the weaker strength (ie the bigger bubbles) with the red object bubble, circle, or dot as dead center in the pattern as you can get it, then increase the strength (shrink the bubbles).

Hey guys
Thanks for the tips and the links. I put my two cents worth in here to help out, and in return got a better understanding from you guys.
Probe stuff is pretty tricky. I wish I did better in geometry class when I was a kid.

The other thing to remember is that while you can have the X and Y axis correct, you can still be above or below the signature by a lot and not get any closer to the site. Be sure to check that as well by rotating the view to show the probe spheres edge on.
