When engaging another player with my blasters, should i use the keep at range feature or orbit? I heard that orbiting can actually disrupt your own tracking, is this true?

It all depends what you and your target are fitted for. The point is always to work things so you have the advantage over the other guy(s). All gun turrets can only track so fast, so orbiting too close or too fast will make your guns miss the target. Again the important thing is to know what your fit is good at and what your target is good at and exploit that knowledge to the fullest.
You might also want to consider manual flying or using the approach target option with blasters. Your advantage is the high damage your ship can deal and they can be fitted with good tanks, but your range and tracking speed aren't the best. So usually range or tracking will favor your opponents, and they will win in an even fight, if they can mitigate the damage you can do for long enough. You will want to fit modules that stop the target from escaping too, since they will try to get away from you. Getting close to your target and keeping him where you want him are two different things.

If you're in a frigate, where angular velocity matters because your defense is "don't get hit", make sure to fit the ship so your guns can track at the range that you'll be orbitting, and then orbit.
If you're in a battleship that's fitted with a serious tank that can take punishment, then keep at range.

If your ina range fit battleship then you want to match the speed direction (or juat max speed on your slow bss ussualy) of targets your having a hard time hitting, this will reduce the angular velocity relative to your target and you will do higher dmg volleys more often

Blaster Fighting in 6 easy steps:
1. Target and launch drones. 2. Turn on your MWD and spam the "Approach" button. 3. Overload your guns. 4. Upon bumping the target (or close enough to), web/scram it, hit "Orbit" (should have been pre-set to just below your gun's optimal range), and unleash your fury. 5. ????????? 6. Warp out in your pod.
(Optional) 7. Self-destruct pod for a quicker way home. _______________________

Since this is the newbie forum I'd say it's worth pointing out that this is bad advice. In a ship without much HP, turning on your MWD and heading in a straight line to the target (using approach) makes even your tiny frigate extremely easy to kill on one shot with larger guns. If you manually pilot in at an angle until you are close to them then turn your MWD off and cut into an orbit you'll survive much better.

Remember there is more than just orbit or keep at range. There's flying the ship by double-clicking in space which sometimes is a good idea as it makes you less predictable.

Sorry, I was feeling a bit cheeky. I added emotes to my post to show how "un-serious" I was posting that. _______________________
