Edited by: Cannonn on 22/12/2004 16:43:32 Phew well i met my first Player Pirate last night.
Me and a few friends are fairly new to this game (7 days now) And we are intending to become something akin to a pirate clan. However for now we are mere miners and mercs.
We were in Amari i think it was called, a 0.4 zone with some nice Pure Jaspet Mining away when at 1am my mates all log off but impressed with this new found gold mine i take control of my friends account with the hoarder so i'm controling my Dessie (Thrasher) with 3 miner 1's and my mates hoarder with 1 miner 1.
Decided to be paranoid and position both ships in a fairly clear space (as i've already expereinced the stuck between to roids thing) facing the only station in the system ready to jump and started mining away with one eye on the scanner for Rats and NPC's
Just as i fill the 2nd load for the hoarder i see something warping in. Quickly empty the jetisoned container into my Dessie as the hoarder (Which was taking from the container) is full and start the warp to station
Sure enough it's a player Pirate, 10mill bounty,I didn't get the name as i was busy running and trying to stop my heart imploding but a quick glance at the profile read something along the lines of Death has no mercy and nor do i. The ship was big, fast and descibed as something along the lines of "Pride of the Caldari Navy" Given my lack or offencive weapons or experince, knowledge of his capabilities and my valuable cargo i just warp out before he's even come out of warp on his way in.
I was suprised how much my heart was pumping as i tried to get to saftey. The Dessie was making good speed to the station with all my tweaks for speed and afterburner i've been installing/training but the Hoarder is managing a mere 212 with a 10mn booster. When it's obvious the hoarder isn't goint to dock quickly and suree enough the rat knowing there is only 1 station in the sector warps in chasing us i decide to act as blockade between the hoarder and him as it docks rather than loose my mates ship and a cargo worth 200k. He ignores me and targets the hoarder at which point i panic and just start for the dock myself. As his first salvo opens up the hoarder vanishes into the station unharmed! Relife!! Then he begins locking onto me but the same again just as he opens up i dock. Harvested a total of 890,000isk and decided that now i had the rats attention it was time to set my skills training and go to bed!!
Feel almost sorry for the Rat as it must of been very frustrating for him to have 2 totally harmless to him (pretty much) ships full of cargo get away without a single hit or even time to threaten us..err...me. Taught me a few things though. Its quite suprrisingly scary to have a rat on you!! Rats monitor sectors remotly and come to you so it's not as safe just fiding a remote system as i though and hoping one doesn't chance across you. And most importantly i learnt to keep an eye on local to catch these rats as they come into the sector not wait for them to jump on top of me before i start running!!!
Rats are definantly a good thing. For a 0.4 it was suprisingly easy to dodge or destroy the npc's and control the Belt there for 3 or 4 hoarder trips a go for a million or so in 30-40mins but the rat certainly made it more interesting, scary and risky and made damn sure i didnt just wipe out the npc then go afk for 20 mins which i was tempted to do (really...really needed the little minmatars room!) Also looking forward to being a rat myself down the line and trying to find a better way to catch people as even with the jump on us the rat didn't get a hit in let alone have much chance of destroying/droopping my cargo. Will be an interesting challenge on both sides of the fence ;)

yaar...
even though he was in a raven... a wee tip (if yer setup for it) would be to try and hold him... sentries are gonna pwn him while u scramble... bit risky if yer in a frig as his torps will give ya a hard time, but will make him think twice next time.

Don't think he has the skills to use scramblers yet, isn't usual in the first 7 days of training to pick that skill __________________________________________________ "Time will reveal everything, but only once so be prepared." |

Good story, Darth, obviously any pvper's alt will have prop jamming at lvl 1 on day one, but no real newbie will train that right away.

hehe I use scrambler and webber, otherwise those damned missiles don't hit and they just outrun them. Only problem is when they have a few stabs on And trained learning first instead of any other electronic skills. Now the only electronic skill I don't have is cloaking __________________________________________________ "Time will reveal everything, but only once so be prepared." |

Yeah your right i don't have Scrambler, or EW or many such skills trained yet and they are pretty far down my priority list.
For now i am training my Personal Stats and Gunnery as a Priority, Ship and Systems upgrades 2ndary equal to mining and refining then Ship Skills and Leadership as a 3rd. I'm also throwing in a few basic Social Skills just for a few monetary and allignment boosts but only to lvl1 or 2 (an hour or so)
I guess this means for now i will be playing prey, having to rely on a quick eye and good preperation to bug out of trouble safely or rely on my team mates to skill up to act as escort. Seems to be working for me so far and it will make it all the sweeteer when i'm ready to start playing these "rats" at thier own game as i'm sure the "honour amoung theives" here is as with any community i've met so far. Kill them as anyone else then honour their lack of skill by podding them. Personally i'm in a semi rp situation ;) this will mean the way i pick my targets will be different and won't be out podding people for the hell of it but i'm Certainly going to start taking names of my aggressors especialy any that get the better of me (none so far) so that i can always pay back the favour later ;) And i an enjoying it and looking forward to more of the same on both sides of the fence ;)
For now i'll just say nice to meet you all and catch me if you can ;) This is the only chance your gonna have to have an easy time of me.

Posting with your main shows a courage many on this board lack.
Your tactics are head and shoulders above most players in their first week and TBH better than most miners in general. Definitely worth posting with your main. --------------

Nice post Cannonn.
The adrenaline-high, heart-pumping moments are what make this game so enjoyable. Kudos for surviving your first PvP encounter, and for getting valuable hindsight out of it. Oh, and don't feel too sorry for the pirate, be assured that he would've shown no mercy whatsoever.
Welcome to the community, and may you have a long and prosperous career, pirate or otherwise - from the looks of it, you will.

Thanks for the warm welcome ;) I hope to learn more (There is so much to learn). I have played X2 quite a lot so i have some ideas on how to take care of myself in dangerous space :) though i do miss a few things in this game. (Like the fact that fleeing into an asteroid belt didn't actually help me as you can fire through roids...and stations...and ships...you get the idea!!) THe lack of collision damage suprised me to ;) nothing ruins the experince more than going to dock and flying through a space station ;)
Also kina was hoping that if someone does get the better of me rather than sit tehre and die i could just arm all my torps and ram into him and self destruct hurting them with the collision/explosion but no such joy :p
Btw expect me to be remebering your names and looking for blobs for the next few nights just in case ;) remeber i'm paranoid and now i've told you more than i should have ;)
