Edited by: Soon Shin on 10/08/2010 02:05:40 Which should I use the Pith X-Type or the Gist X-type?
The Pith X-Type boosts 840 hp for 400 cap and costs less than 500 million.
The Gist X-Type boosts 670 hp for 204 cap and costs >= 1.2 billion.
I am debating whether tank dps or tank efficiency is better?
What do you think?

I think there is probably a reason why one is over twice the price of the other...

I run a cap transfer chain with an alt. The tanking ship receives cap from the non tanking ship. When not taking heavy damage, they give cap to each other and the difference between the cap transferred and the cap cost usage helps fill the capacitor better than cap mods.

Pith X type for three reasons.
1. It's cheaper
2. Cap stability is overrated, I run a pith-b type XL on my mission ships. It only costs between 170-190 mil and it is more than enough tank for any lvl 4 especially with a cap-booster for emergencies.
3. If you do get ganked, you'll probably die but an overheated Pith-X will give you more tank than an overheated Gist-X.

When I used to mission in a raven I used a Pith A X-L that I found on contracts for 320 mil, was always more than enough pulsing it with 3-4 mission specific hardeners.. And only in First room of The Assualt and Pith room in Worlds collide did I need to inject cao boosters alot.

Pith, especially if your ships has a shield boost bonus. Also cheaper :) ***The EVE servers and their patches***

I've started my mael with a C5-L X-Large booster and really haven't found mission where I needed something better. Yes faction ones would give me better tanks, but it's already pretty sweet..
I'd rather put my iskies in a (lg) crystal set than a faction booster (although +5's are nice for training obviously), but if you must, I'd go cheap and just cap booster it for when you're in trouble..
All the above is prolly crap

First of all please stop believing you need an X-type booster.
I run lvl4's in a vargur with a C-type and it works just fine. Only PROPER carebear noobs use X-types.
Note a C-type uses less cap than an X-type, but trades in a bit of HP/cap in return so in theory the X-type is the best for HP/cap boosting but in practice it just means you will be activating your booster a little less of the time.
I find I only have my shieldbooster running approx. 25-40% of the time on easier missions, 50-75% on harder missions and the longest consequitive run of my sebo was in AE bonus room for approx 5 minutes non-stop operation because I screwed up aggro (tbh, I havent had to bother with aggro or triggers or selective killing in the vargur untill AE bonus room). __________________________________________________

Cap stable builds are great for people that have lives on the side. Phone rings, doorbell rings, woman wants to sex you up, kid falls on bike and needs first aid...
But if you don't need to go afk at any time you are playing eve then overtanking to the tune of 600 million isk is a waste of time/money IMHO. This is clearly a signature. |

If this is for a CNR, beware that a Pith X-Type will limit fitting options due to the high CPU requirements. For that reason, I think the lower grade Piths (or smaller sized ones) are more practical.

For a CNR, go with a Large (not X-Large) Gist X-Type and 2, T2 shield boost amps. You will never look back. Running the large will let you fit 2 Rigor rigs in your setup and you will never want to go back to a 3 CCC setup again.
