Yes i know, no one probably cares, but I feel I have to say something about why I'm quitting after 3 years. Its largely because I pay 15 bucks a month and never log in, because i'd much rather spend my time playing other games.
The game is ultimately boring. Perhaps for someone doing industry and market its a lot of fun, but after trying just about every form of sub-cap warfare possible, it feels like theres a lot of lost opportunity in this game.
Mostly, it feels like combat breaks down into two categories: big, boring sov warfare and silly, pointless roams. I think the reason for this is the lack of targets, or rather, that game design makes targets more scarce than they should be.
I wasn't around before jump freighters and jump bridges and warp to zero, but it sounds like a game i'd rather play. I'd also like to see local stop being a means of gathering intel. Because with those features, 0.0 warfare is extremely sparse and without purpose. You can't hit your opponents logistics or industry, and so unless you're in a capital ship, theres not a whole lot of meaningful combat you can engage in
In my mind, combat with consequence is the whole reason to play eve. And though sometimes, as the recent kestrel-with-plex kill illustrates, it does happen, the day to day feels more like ****ing around.
So, with the caveat that none of these are novel ideas, here's my plan for making eve fun:
1) Remove Warp to Zero. the simple solution is to stop all warps 15 km from all stations and stargates, like a warp bubble does. No bookmark problem, because bookmarks would be useless, you'd still get dropped 15km from the station. Suddenly eve gets a lot bigger, and theres more combat in 0.0. You can't just avoid it anymore.
2) Do something similar to station undocks, so all stations are suicide stations. Removes docking games and again, promotes more conflict.
3) The above 2 changes really should be implemented in tandem with some way to determine whats on the other side of the gate/outside the station, as it would replace the current system of jumping through/undocking to scout, which has the added benefit of being easier for new players to grasp than the rather unintuitive combat that happens around gates and stations now.
4) Introduce a Jump Drive interdictor. Maybe a T2 tier-2 battlecruiser, since people have been wanting one forever. Any cap ship which travels over a given system in its jump path could be pulled onto the interdictor, which opens up the possibility of ambush on previously untouchable logistics trains. Make it work on jump bridges too. Suddenly, more fights. If people use jump ships less because of it, fine. The current system of hassle-free logistics is boring. I want to shoot freighters.
5) make all local work like wormhole local. Perhaps couple this with a more useful d-scan, which could give you information about who's piloting a ship when you scan it, or at least which corp and alliance its in. This makes black ops more useful, it makes attacking things like miners and ratters more possible, and generally makes roaming gangs have more of a point.
So thats my 2 cents. I know its all been said before, but god damn it, thats the game I want to play. Anyone else?
Also, I already gave my stuff away. Sorry!

No, but I read good things about WOT.
You should just transfer your characters over to me then. -------------------------------------------------------------- The 5 minute forum time delay was a crime against humanity that CCP took forever to address. |

That being said, you will be back eventually. Save your character for later, and if not, transfer him to someone who would relish the billions. Such as myself for example ^^
20B isk would be nice for most people, someone like me would just screw around in NPC space for the rest of my EVE life and never rat or run a mission again. Which is kind of where i am at anyway come to think of it... only without the mountain of isk part lol

Thats exactly why I'm quitting, actually, and i think you've clarified my point quite well. I'd prefer the actual pvp to be more work than looking for it.
And no, no one can have my characters either. I realize i'll probably be back at some point. I've quit and come back before. It's just this time, I've lost that illusion i once had that eventually, when i have enough SP, pvp will be fun.

Read his post, 15km no-warp bubble means bm's are useless. I like this, I preferred playing without WTZ, game felt huge back then. ________ Chicago players channel: 'Windy City'

I think one of the finer points of this game is that you can leave it for a while and it will be there when you can get back to it. Like restoring an old car in the work shop.

He wants other people to not be able to WTZ, not himself. So he can catch them in 0.0 and blow them up.

I miss the days before WTZ .. My specialty used to be tracing insta-bm routes and selling the sets to people.. It made scouting more rewarding, and travelling unexplored sectors with out BM's much more dangerous.. I preferred it.. Wish they had simply optimized their DB instead of nerfing all the instas and implementing WTZ.. oh well.

Well we all had folders consisting of thousands of insta's anyhow :/
Technically nothing changed when they added warp to 0 outside of the db lag those bm's were causing.

Yes... Made ISK out the wazoo and all I was doing was selling the same ones that I bought from somebody else. ;) Though making bm copies in such large numbers was a pain.

Edited by: Professor Tarantula on 17/08/2010 16:45:21 All your suggestions cater to pirating, which is already heavily favored in the game, and is a large part of the reason theres so few targets for them.
Making it even easier to kill 'carebears' isn't going to make the carebears line up to be killed, they'll just quit playing, and leave you waiting at your gatecamp.

So essentially you want to have your target pile up and march before you so that your guns will kill them easily?
Mmmh, you should try missions and encounters sites. They are exactly what you want.

If you want more PvP action... why not join Red vs Blue or factional warfare? or is it more you want lopsided PvP where you never lose, but always find easy targets to go pound on to improve you ego? If the latter, glad to be rid of you! But really, if it is simply PvP you want, try factional warfare or Red vs Blue. They both seem to be pretty good ways of getting combat quickly without having to form up a roam all the time.

Yes, this...
I live in 0.0 and I'd quit if they made everyone stop 15 km from a gate. I don't want to be "forced" into anything, if I did I'd just spend more time in my job at work...

Take care, I think you'll come back, not because Eve is awesome, but because the Theme park is now ruined for you. I resubbed to WoW, made new characters and it didn't last 3 weeks. I played PotBS, WARfail and a few other demos. Sadly there just aren't any alternatives. Blackhole err blackproph is FTP, so it will suck. Jumpgate looked promising a year ago, but the new E3 stuff shows it as a repetitive FPS style spaceship game. Their motto seems to be no dice rolling, so it likely won't have missiles, ECM, stealth detection etc since they have to be chance based to be interesting.
Fly safe out of eve, write me if you return Apollo =============================== || Don't let the Trolls keep you from your goals. || =============================== |
