Problem : wimpy Hi Sec PvE Mining Ops get whacked by experienced PvP gankers during Hulkageddon.
Goals: 1) Find a solution to make the Mining Op look like an expensive, difficult target. 2) Hopefully survive long enough for Concord to show up. 3) Avoid making your mining op look like a phat & juicy target.
The BattleClinic build that started me thinking along these lines is here.
Step 1, The Command Ship: I started by thinking that I could simply fit my Orca as a Warfare Command ship, but then I realized that 2 Hulks + Orca would make a very attractive target. So, to utilize the Myrmidon as a command ship, similar to the above link, requires some tuning to play off the Hulk's only defensive buff : shield resists, which equates to the above Myrm design but with Siege Warfare Links.
Step 2, Mock Spider Tanking: The Myrmidon will use 1X Heavy Maintenance Bot per Hulk. The Hulks will deploy 5X Medium Shield Maintenance Bots on each other. This leaves 25Mbits drone bandwidth on the Myrm. We could either ignore the ratz, and add an additional medium shield repper drone per Hulk, or we could deploy a full flight of light drones for Rat control.
On top of all that, I'll see if I can fit remote shield reppers in the remaining 2 high slots on the Myrm (see above link), which is unknown at this point while I fumble with getting EFT up ad running.
Bottom line : will such a Mining Op discourage HulkaGankers? Would there be a better way of accomplishing the stated goals? What build goals would be more suitable for a PvP style defense of the notoriously wimpy Hulks allowing survival until Concord shows up?
Any helpful comments or criticisms would be welcome. Thanks !!!

Repping isn't fast enough if enough people are out to get you and a lot of Hulkageddon kills are made in fleet ops. You will want as much buffer as you can because you need to protect yourself from huge alpha damage, but mainly this; don't mine in an exhumer during Hulkageddon. Fit a Rokh for mining or something; back in the days before ore ships everyone used to mine in BS's :) I agree with everything Barakkus posts. |

Hulkageddon never ends. You just get periods with prizes every now and then.

Slap 8 mining lasers on a Rokh with shield resist amps and combat drones in the hold. With good Orca bonuses, you get over 100m3 every 50 seconds or so per laser, and with shield resist amps and Rokh inherent abilities, you should totally be able to last until concord arrives. A fleet of Rokhs would deter me...or would it?

You will be able to resist those dessy ganking, but when the disco lights are on, you will die, tanked hulk or not.
Only way to be sure is have one (some) scouts at incoming gate(s), and when tempests or so show up, gtfo.
Run missions during the week were Helicity takes care of Macroes.

I would say have all the Rokhs save 2 use Medium shield rep drones, and each assign the drones to another.
As for the 2 remaining... no one says all your ships have to be mining fit. 2 Blaster rokhs adding support till Concord arrives... well... fun for the killmails!

This, basically. Make safe spots in system and keep aligned to them, or keep aligned to a station, always. Have an alt or a friend watch the gates. When local spikes, warp out.

As a miner and an industrialist, I find that having to be vigilent and watchful for potential gankers adds excitment to what would otherwise be dull and boring. So far, I've survived the majority of gank attempts and have made a net profit on them by getting back there and grabbing the loot. Being ganked is PvP for carebears, and in high sec we win by not losing.

der
if you want to stop getting ganked, stop fitting your ships like morons and get some skills
The command ships idea is not a bad one, but.. running armour links = FAIL, as does rep rigs, you kill a hulk with alpha, so buffer is best, but it's not just fits, but skills too, far to many of you miner chaps, focus on indy skills and not ship skills.
Hulks if fitted right, with a shield buffer and good resists, are hard to kill, very hard to kill. Even so, the more you tank your Hulks, the more we... oops I mean, the evil gankers, will just bring more guys.
So really, you're boned to be honest
