My friends and fellow pilots,
I come before you today to tell you all of a crime most foul. A crime that truly strikes at the very hearts and minds of all pilots here in New Eden. We are a immortal race, forever moving forward due to the advent of clone technology, but we must always remember that life is still fleeting and precious.
Azia Burgi realized this and over three years ago built the EVE Cemetery, a massive graveyard dedicated to memorializing the fallen. It was considered one of the sites to visit by you and other pilots when traversing the various regions, indeed many commented that it was one of the wonders of New Eden.
This dream came to an end just over two years ago, when members of anarchist alliance of Goonswarm destroyed the EVE Cemetery in a fit of pure stupidity and childish tantrums. An action that they further denigrated by actually ransoming off the bodies of the interred to their current personages and then when not paid the ransom, destroying them on public vid feed.
New Eden mourned the loss and indeed its founder and sole caretaker, Azia, wept.
In a show of pure selflessness and tenacity Azia picked up the pieces and started again. She was determined that the fallen would have a place to sleep, a monument to their works and efforts in New Eden. A place where their current personages could come and contemplate their own lives. When it went online it was once again heralded as one of the wonders of New Eden.
In the two years Azia has managed to more the double the original size of the cemetery, a sign that the greater majority of New EdenÆs pilots saw the place as sacred. Those that visited commented that it was an amazing site and indeed the movers and shakers of New Eden even donated their own corpses to be interred.
Now this great work, this monument to the fallen, this sacred site to our deeds, our suffering, our blood and tears has once again been targeted by the foul anarchist movement known as the Goonswarm. Again these terrorists, for that is what they truly are, have targeted one of New EdenÆs most harmless pilots and her monument to your deeds, your efforts to make New Eden yours.
I humbly come before you all to beseech your aid in protecting this wonder of New Eden from these terrorists and to lend your arms to destroy the Goonswarm wherever they may be.
The Cemetery itself sits in Molea 2 Moon 1 and the war-dec was filed today at 1330hrs New Eden common time.
I ask you all to please set aside your differences for a short while, to stand shoulder to shoulder with each other, to direct your arms not against each other but against the fanatics of Goonswarm and show them that this type of action will not be permitted in New Eden.
Your humble servant,

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha...
I remember this well and enjoyed it very much. Something about ransoming the corpses and then vaporizing them as their immortal owners freaked out was something special indeed.
However, times change and people do as well. Best of luck to the new cemetery... |

"corpse" is a bit of a misnomer, really. We're talking about used biomass here. The pilots who once owned those bodies are still alive and well somewhere in New Eden, and likely unaware that their former host clones are part of the collection.
In short, this isn't desecration of the dead that the goons are doing, because none of the bodies involved belong to people who are actually permanently dead and gone.
I object to what they're doing on the grounds that it consists of picking on a harmless eccentric for no good, rational reason. But then again, in the entire time they've existed, the Goons haven't done ANYTHING for a good rational reason.
Sad as it is to see any public service, however unusual it may be, become the target of unjustified aggression, it's not like the memory of anybody who is actually dead is being disrespected here. Frankly, if she has any of my former clones in the collection, I hope they get vaporized. The collection of each others' corpses is a capsuleer habit I've always found morbid and unsettling. -

Holy Capsuleers,
We have heard of your plight. The rogue band known as Goonswarm Federation has besmirched thine hallowed name and now they seek to defame one of your holiest sites, the New Eden Cemetary. We simple folk bound to the planets that flash beneath your ships will pray for your continued health and for the downfall of the wretched hive of villany that are the "goons". We ask that you go to war against these despicable pirates in order to save that which is so dear to you all: the remains of your fallen comrades.

Have we really sunken this low? Instead of protecting this marvel of eve you are grabbing popcorn and waiting for the big bang! I thought that some would think that this is a terrible thing. Instead I see capsuleers cheering the goons on, and I am ashamed. I would declare support for Azia, but I am unable to do so. High Command simply won't risk an attack on the goons. If indeed the goons destroy this cemetery, I will be right there with a welding torch form day one, trying to bring it back to its former glory. The best of luck to you who will fight to defend the cemetery, Godspeed.

Please. This is nothing in the great scale of things, just one group of people not taking a liking to a bunch of corpses floating in boxes in space.
Originally by: Fournone Instead of protecting this marvel of eve you are grabbing popcorn and waiting for the big bang!
Ironically, when the big bang happens, I'm sure there will be more corpses to add to the cans in space. In addition to that, the wrecks of the ships fighting over the cemetery might make some capsuleers rich. Win win situation.
Originally by: Fournone I thought that some would think that this is a terrible thing.
Oh I'm sure there are. Much as I'm sure they are the ones who are loading ammunition so that they can honour the dead by more practical means rather than whining on GalNet.

Ashamed? What a laughable suggestion. If you truly cared, you would be leaving your corporation and taking the fight to them. If you cared, of course. Hiding behind the skirts of an unaffiliated corporation and preaching on IGS makes me ashamed that people like you have the right to apply for pilot licenses. Grow a backbone.

You'd do more honour to the dead by letting them rest in peace rather than rattling them about in their boxes every time anything resembling a threat comes around. When you are already dead, someone destroying your coffin isn't going to bring you back to life. It'll just make you more dead. --- |

it bears repeating - there's a real distinction between the biomass in that graveyard, and the remains of a person who has met their terminal fate. The way I see it, all of those corpses belonged to people who went on to reincarnate, and are still alive and kicking somewhere. Which means that nobody's memory is actually being desecrated, so there's no reason to get all worked up over it.
And if I got on the warpath every time the strong preyed upon the weak in New Eden, I'd need Jita's monthly supply of missiles just to keep up. -

I already have stated my position when this had happened before.
The fuzz about the death is mainly a thing of the Amarrian culture, most of us Matari don't see any value in the dead meat that is left behind when a warrior dies in battle. We burn it if it's beginning to stink or we reprocess the biomass and feed it to the dogs.
Biomass to biomass. Ashes to ashes.
Who cares? In our minds is the eternal reminder of the dead, not in his bones.
Let it burn, I say. Burn, burn, burn. I would not mind the place important enough to waste the effort but a good burning is something that can warm the heart.
And for the remains of the warriors that are heaped there it means that they vaporize in a battle - how better can it end for a warrior?

<BWAHAHAHAHA!> Y-y-you've got the be kidding me right? <contuines to laugh uncontrolably> Goonswarm knows what they are doing. It's too funny, to let such an optunity slip by. <starts to clam down, though his crazy looks never seem to disappear> If you want to "honor" you dead clones, then put them in the ground or attach them to your ship, or better yet, start a collection. Either way, it seems pretty stupid to get your panties in a bunch over some dead clones. Meh, if you really want a cemetary for them, go ahead, but expect people like goonswarm to do this again, and again. <Burst out laughing evily and insanly>

I was sitting in my Aeon the other day (as it's the only ship shy of a titan that will hold my massive bulk) thinking about food, when suddenly an ISD news report flashed across my optical implants.
"Well what do we have here?" I asked, and I demanded one of my stooges read it aloud to me, as the fat on my face has made me nearly blind.
"The Eve Cemetery, sir, it has reached critical mass!"
"I must have human flesh! I must feast upon the corpses of the fallen! I want to bathe in their blood, drink their decomposing fluids, play with the worms and the maggots that devour them. I MUST FEAST!"
"Yes, my lord!" exclaimed a frightened slave, fearful that he would be next upon my dinner plate if he did not spread word of my desires to the rest of the crew, and eventually, the rest of the swarm.
The reason that we come this time is not for terrorism, not for tears, but because I'm hungry, and because I, too, have reached critical mass. The graveyard is the only thing that can sate my hunger, both sexually and gastronomically.
This would be so much easier if you just let me take them, but you will not, so I must destroy. There is pleasure in the destruction, but not as much as there is in the devouring!

...the fallen shall be honored and consumed upon funerary pyres, that thier spirit be free to travel to the Hall of Warriors and take its place among the ancestors where the brave shall live forever...
This is the way of the Matari, not condeming the fallen's spirit to wander the cold vacuum of space without rest. I am not a fan of the calussai d'l'elghinyrr <eaters of the dead> (aka. Goonswarm), no more than I would be the fleas on a Rothe'...however, if the "corpses" are to be consumed in the fires of battle, so be it.

What something is, and what something represents to some can be 2 different things. A cemetery contains (decaying) organic matter, sometimes burned to ash. What it represents to some people is a place to remember the dead.
The graves at the EVE cemetery may merely contain the former shells of the capsuleers that may have long since moved on, what they represent to me, is one of the few places where I remember those that have fallen under their command, the crew that rarely get such a place for their only shell.
But still, I care many times more for the souls on the starbase, and the ones that will try to protect them.
But what I find surprising, is that some, some of which I would think to be more wise, care more to voice their support for the possible incineration of their biowaste at this cost.
Peace,

Even a small, utterly undefended tower takes so long to bring down that even the greenest and most panicky crew members should have no trouble evacuating in time.
I suppose it's a fair point that it'd be nice to have some monument to all those millions of deceased crew personnel, but I can think of more fitting memorials than a sepulchre devoted to the very people they died working for. -

While we are at it… Has anybody an idea if one could raise an evil army of undead capsuleer clones from the remains of those bodies? Certainly I'm not talking about unholy rituals but I'm talking about modern, clean science.
There is just a practical idea behind this that each new clone is costing a lot of money and I have not talked about implants at all - yet. Bodies in space battles tend to be well preserved, deep frozen in fact, with either minor damage or completely vaporized.
With a cheap set of implants it should be possible to revive the flesh and in the brain tissue the learned patterns of a pilot should still be possible to activate. Of cause, of cause the freezening should have destroyed some parts of the mental capacity so you can not expect somethings real from that but it should be better than those abdominations of the Sansha or not?
And besides this nobody has to suffer, whoever does this has the benefit of cheap and willing tools so to say spaceship flying expert machines.
What concerns me of cause is the ethical question if those revived entities are alive or not. If the brain patterns that you reanimate make them a human again. If that is so this would be nothing but slavery and slavery I strongly reject.
But I don't think so. The cloning technology only allows one clone to be really alive so I think an undead body of a dead capsuleer should be considered something like a thing, not a person.
We Matari make not much a fuzz about the remains of the dead. We usually vaporize them to make them stop stinking, but this appliance is interesting, isn't it? I already have begun to experiment with dead frogs. I have one dead frog here that is jumping happily around with some minor reanimation current surges.
The cam is showing a halve decayed frog that is jumping over the surface of a table. He has an electric current and a micro power sell stripped on his back. Finally he jumps over the edge and falls into the dustbin.
Of cause I have not managed to get into the brain structure of the dead tissue. This small experiment just uses the muscle flesh and revives it with simple electricity. At the moment I try to program the micro circiut in a way to make the frog dance. This is something that I have seen before when I discovered a shipload of abdominations of pets that were shipped towards the Empire in the time of the holy days of the new year feast of the Amarr.
Of cause I have to find a way to stop the stinking of the the carcass, but my first experiments are promising. This technology can actually be used for something. For something better than just toys for children that sing unbearable chorals and other things.
I have seen such braindead pilots already in the Abudban Icebelt, where the pilot lost his ship due to a economy saving and deflaction fighting suicide attack, and his pod returned, stood in the belt for an exact time, then returned to base, came back and so forth for hours and hours. This is a clear sign of beeing brain dead for me, so this technology must work somehow. Don't know if that pilot was using a dead clone or what, but imagine how we could fight the Amarrian invasion on our space, how we could fight the internal problems for our agents or the stupid mining thing in future.
But we could go further. All those things you have to do and don't like to do could be done by them. Like the annual tax thing for example.
This could be useful technology! If somebody is willing to spend his next clone for my experiments or has himself advanced results of reanimating dead flesh, please contact me. -- FREEDOM, PUNK & AUTOCANNONS

how very excellent! A supposed slave is proposing to breed an army of depersonalised slaves... I am going to capture a portrait of you and submit it to the Imperial Academy for an encyclopaedic entry of ôPsychological Projectionö...
