As far as I know anything that can hold enough m3 for the command centre then it's fine.
I think everyone was given a Primae swell which is modified with a cc bay and planetary products bay. ------------------------------

You don't need the give away ship to do PI. You can probably use combat type ships to setup your colonies (just need 500m3 to carry the command center), but you will probably need an industrial ship when it's time to export off the planet. If you want to do PI in losec, you should probably work to getting a t2 industrial ship with a covops cloak

You don't need a certain type. However, I do use a Prorator and LOVE it for PI... Large enough storage (a little over 10,500m3) and a covert ops cloak makes a frustrated pirate out of anyone who is seeking to hunt you down. Bear in mind that in order to use the interactions themselves you need to be uncloaked to access the customs offices, but that's pretty quick and often you can position yourself so no one knows where you are coming from (or going) and you can get in and get out pretty quickly.

It seems nobody really likes the Primae but it does make a great PI ship for new players taht don't want to train into industrial class ships. As others have said you don't need it. You can usually find them in contracts for 5-20 million.

Any hauler will do, though the largest low-skill one is a Bestower.
Amarr Frigate 1 (41m 39s) Amarr Frigate 2 (3h 14m) Amarr Frigate 3 (18h 17s) Amarr Industrial 1 (1h 23m) Hull Upgrades 1 (41m 39s) Hull Upgrades 2 (3h 14m)
Total Training Time: 1d 3h 32m 19s (with no learning skills or implants, and default mapping)
What you get: Bestower + 4x Expanded Cargohold II = 13,318.98 m3
Mechanic 3 (9h 8m) Jury Rigging 1 (41m 39s) Jury Rigging 2 (3h 14m) Jury Rigging 3 (18h 17m) Astronautics Rigging 1 (1h 2m)
Total Training Time: 2d 11h 56m 49s (with no learning skills or implants, and default mapping)
What you get: Bestower + 4x Expanded Cargohold II + 3x Cargohold Optimization = 20,256.51 m3
Need bigger than a Bestower at level 3 skill (22,185.71)? Minmatar Mammoth is the largest industrial at skill level 4 (27,129.26 m3).
Things get complicated if you are considering training a racial industrial to level 5, as there are other ships to consider before taking the plunge.

1. Don't mine unless you enjoy mining. Missions earn more in hisec. 2. Don't mine in an Industrial unless you are AFK all day. 3. After completing all the tutorial arcs (I think there are 4 now), do the epic beginner arc from Sister Alitura in Arnon.
