A second EVE universe.
There is no other way around it. You can fit just so many people into a phone booth before you need a second.
It's unavoidable so accept it.

I think it was E&B but cant be sure... But one MMO I played would create a new instance of a system/zone once its population reached a certain number.
Worked out OK at best but began to get tricky when somebody would lag out then log back in to find they weren't in the same instance as their party/group/gang anymore.

Um... wouldn't you need a set of servers for each "universe"? And at that point, why not just use those servers to better balance the load in EVE so we can all still stay in the same universe?

Yes but you can make a bigger phone booth. You can also shrink people. Technology kinda works that way.
Just accept it.
Problem is is like ive always said just as soon as ccp does ANYTHING to control lag we players will test the boundaries again. |

STO is completely instanced, it is terrible, you get no feeling of being the part of the same universe as the other players.
Anyway, the solution that CCP has chosen: to distribute the players over the server nodes based on their location within the virtual universe is a workable system, it just needs some debugging.

Like in the same way that Guild Wars is set up? STO I mean.

This will just exacerbate the problem, because if will mean each node will have even more systems to look after.

Why would you try to fit a lot of people in a phone booth? You really are a lot less intelligent and 'logical' than you imagine yourself to be, terrible name and all.

Right. If it works for 100 v 100 fleets, we'll bring 200 v 200. If they get it working well for 200 v 200, then we'll bring 400 v 400.
Sun Tsu, "Get there first, with the most".
EVE Online, "Get there first, with the most that the software can handle without crashing".
With 50K active players, the mega alliances could field 1000 v 1000 but the server crashes long before that.
So, let's say they split the universe in two. Now there are 25K active players each... okay.. The mega alliances can still bring 1000 v 1000, and the servers still can't handle it.
I suspect that a lot of the lag comes from drones. Hard enough to track the location of 400 ships, the damage done by 3200 weapons, the hardeners, the Ewar, etc, etc, etc...
Now put 2000 drones into the fight that have to have their location tracked, the weapons fired, their shields damaged, etc. etc. etc.
I'm wondering if they couldn't do something like... I know this will be very unpopular, but lag is unpopular too... Let's say that if you have drones out, your CPU is being used to control them so you can't use the main guns... or your tracking goes to crud.. or something that will discourage everyone from filling space with a gazillion drones during these big fleet fights.

This has got to be the dumbest thing I've ever read on these forums. Troll 8/10.
If large numbers of drones really were an issue, and you really wanted to "fix" it, just merge them all into a single superdrone that looses dps as it takes damage.

We already have about 240 physical phone booths (60 nodes each with two 3.3Ghz dual-core CPUs) that run the ~9k virtual phonebooths we call "(solar) systems". You can upgrade the size of some of those physical booths a bit (get faster hardware for some nodes), you can get more physical booths so less virtual phonebooths share the same physical one (get more nodes), and you can make the people smaller (code optimizations).

Funny how you used to complain you were always being trolled and yet, when you start posting with a new char, the same thing happened (even before I tumbled you).
What does that say to you about your posting? .
