Due to continuing load issues with the Tranquility cluster, we will take Tranquility offline temporarily at 24:00 UTC. We anticipate Tranquility's return to service at 00:15 UTC.

I do not envy you your position.
I do, however, appreciate the fact that you consistently give as up-to-date information as you are able, and as often as you are able and allowed.
More often than not, yours if the 'face' of CCP that the angry masses see, and for you, that is most unfortunate.
Thank you for doing your job in spite of the ****storm of anger and derision. Your mates at work, the ones ultimately responsible for the never ending nightmare of unscheduled reboots, database corruption and plain old **** poor quality control owe you many steak and beer dinners.
Just my 2 cents worth.

As someone who deals with disgruntled customers in his real job I would like to be the first to commend CCP fallout for his -OUTSTANDING- customer service at half 11 Iceland time- lets face it if you were my customers I would be home drinking now.
I would like to dedicate this to CCP for setting an example to me and people who have to deal with whiny whiny children.

I know when i worked at Electronic Arts they did a way better job finding the problems and getting a solution. Is this restart a solution or a "lets put it off bye restarting it"? Yes, because clearly the dozen or so devs working on dust would be perfect working on making a server run faster.  Not only is it a small number of people, they also (likely) no nothing of server architecture or how to optimize it.

The CPU loads were heavy enough on several nodes where it was necessary to restart services now. Additionally, we are working on a number of issues regarding Tranquility stability, lag, and the like, as is indicated by several blogs we recently published. More blogs of this nature will be published over the next week, at least one per day. They are extremely specific in the work that we are doing and the detailing the myriad findings.

I'm thinking a lot of you folks weren't around three or more years ago when this was routine. Truth is, CCP has done a great job feeding the hamster since then. Never going to be completely free of these interruptions, I'd guess. O'course, maybe WOW is more stable. Might want to check it out.
I can chill from time to time. They have every reason to keep working on it.

Eve used to be really stable a few years back but recently we're seeing loads of problems.
Maybe it is time you updated your servers CCP spend some cash on giving us some stability.

Really though. We experienced some serious lag in Deklein today. Went on for about an hour. My alt couldn't dock for 20 mins. It was lag like hadn't been experienced, excluding massive fleet warfare. I'm sure this downtime will correct this issue, as my 20 man mining fleet seemed hardly enough to bring down your entire infrastructure.

With the amount of work they have to do, I'm certain they are working on it like they usually do, which is pretty darned quick. Anyway, they usually give all of us someing nice to make up for the down time. CCP has never been stingy in this way before in my experiance. So, for those of you that are feinding like a ****** addict, relax and go do something with your lives, like do some maintenance on your computer, mow the lawn or you can pick your nose.

I used this as an opportunity to replace my hard drive. Went to Best Buy, bought the drive, took out the old one, did a clean install of Win 7, downloaded and installed the Eve client....all before CCP opened their second roll of duct tape! |

The Server problems go deeper then I think CCP even knows at this point...maybe they are figuring it out as I type this.
2 DTs ago, I was moving some ships for a corpmate. I got to the destination station, and I placed the ships directly into his hanger. In the process, I accidentally placed my own basilisk into his hanger as well.
I told him, he made a contract. I could not accept this contract...I clicked accept, then yes I'm sure...then nothing would happen. tried several times, tried relogging...nothing. I told him to recreate the contract...upon canceling the contract the ship has disappeared...and is still not to be found anywhere. And yes, I trust the guy...besides its just a basilisk.
At the same time as the above was happening...we where having people unable to dock in station...no lag...just clicking dock did nothing. they could warp off and back with no lag...but still no dock. relogging fixed this.
Also, we had ships that would not appear...ships that kept appearing even after we flew them to another station...so the same ship was appearing in 2 stations at once.
I exited a ship in station, and then attempted to put it in the corp hanger, and got an error about 2 pilots attempting to fly the same ship at the same time. We were unable to finish organizing our corp assets until after the next dt. clearing cache did nothing (as well as the goggles)
this was 2 DTs ago...there is a ghost in the machine....and high load is not it.

using minmatar slaves might be a problem more so with amarr tech, i would recomend changing to minmatar tech you know it runs fast and gets out of trouble almost all the time.

Well.... they describe eve as EPIC.. it is.. but they also know the word FAIL and well.. downtimes that dont follow the times they estimate are EPIC FAIL. They are not very good at managing customers expectations. At this point.. dont give us times that the server will be up. We will just be happy to logon to see it there
I estimate this post will probably last a millisecond EVE time so.. you may vew it for the next few hours.. or days...er...................

Edit: although it seems the second deadline has now been missed too (original quote was from before this deadline), but I do expect it to be up any minute or another update soon, Fallout does do a good job of at least letting us know whats going on, even if we don't like what's going on :)

That indicates that the server is in what we call "VIP" mode. It's a time when our engineers look at the myriad settings, proxies, hardware and make sure that everything is working okay. When they are assured that Tranquility will play nicely with capsuleers, they take it out of VIP mode and open the server to the masses.
VIP mode is generally seen whenever Tranquility undergoes a reboot (e.g. server issues such as those experienced today that required a server reboot; daily downtimes, which normally take under one hour to complete). You will be seeing this when there are patches and expansions as well.

During this downtime, I installed Windows 7 32bit because ATi are a bunch of nublets and couldn't code their way out of a paperbag (well, lighting the bag on fire because your crapo drivers make the video card run hot might be considered 'escape' I guess).
All good here now (except I fear for ever touching a 4+ gig file while locked in 32bit land.).

Isn't it rather the only way to determine a date? How else would you know if its the one or the other day when you try to make a date. It'd be the very end of day 1 if you said 24:00 and the very beginning of the next day if you said 0:00. If you could just switch 24:00 and 0:00 as you like you'd never know which day it's meant to be.

Whomever has to complain about CCP, go play cryptic games for half a year, either ST offline or champions offline. See what "fail" truly means.
I've been playing since december and I've seen only like 4 happenings of unexpected downtime, plus 2 prolonged downtimes. And every time we had updates every couple hours at most.
Blah, for every *****ing person on this forum there are probably 10k happy players that accept the minimal burden of CCPs "failures".
