Edited by: Dances WithWolves on 18/08/2010 12:03:43 GW2 and Black Prophecy are the two MMO's I really am looking forward to. Both F2P and both guna kick the subscription MMO's to the curb. Can't wait. BP looks to be set to finally be something as good or better than freelancer was and cover space sim freeflight market in MMO's. I also like how the game has a sort of oldskool gaming feel to it.

Black Prophecy is definitely interesting but whether it will kick anything to the curb remains to be seen, the concept behind the game is great but it will all come down the execution of that concept and how the game actually plays and feels.
To many awesome looking and sounding games have actually turned out to be pretty rubbish recently for anyone to be anything but sceptical until we actually see the game at release.

just had a look at one of the black prophecy videos
"dramatic cutscenes" and then a lengthy part of the vid showed some cutscenes
this is pretty bad, considering its an mmo, cutscenes take you out of the game, they should be viewed from the normal perspective with stuff happening around you

GW2 is not F2P.
Also, when the topic of Black Prophecy comes up, someone always drones on, "ew, F2P". They have spoken against the usual concerns with the model, claiming you won't be able to "buy" advantages and things, just some grinding shortcuts. Not that i'm fond of that, but it's a small price to pay, as the game almost didn't finish production due to money issues. It LOOKS fantastic and I hope it's a fun distraction.

Edited by: Dances WithWolves on 18/08/2010 14:03:25 GW2 is going to be free to play no subscription fee's. Black Prophecy shows gameplay demo's and trailers for the person who said it was all cut scenes. Its in closed beta now and has been for a few months.
Either way I think BP is going to be awesome new space game to play for free and its very similar to freelancer which is my favourite online space game. Can't wait.

I'll probably give bp a try. Eve has never been the jealous vengeful type so she always takes me back when the cheap thrills wear off from the new girl on the block.

Lack of a subscription fee does not a "free-to-play" game make. Only if you can play (to some extent) for as long as you like without ever paying anything can you call the game F2P. Unless GW2 will be totally different from GW as far as payment goes, you still have to pay for the game (and expansions)... so it's _NOT_ F2P.

Ditto. Won't harm me to play a little, but I doubt I will spend any cash on it (if it is indeed F2P), and I doubt even more I'll be playing it any serious amount of time before I give up on it.

No, you have to pay for Guild Wars 2 like you would any other game. Free to Play means absolutely free to play the game.
The tired subscription model is simply being replaced by a more sensible "Buy your content once and be done with it until we charge you for addons".
Once upon a time, subscription fees were charged for games that had new content added on a weekly basis. Games like "WoW" ruined this, made it acceptable to make a static, non-persistant gaming world with static content that people paid 15 bucks a month for and were fine with it.
Anyway, GW2's lack of a subscription fee is a very big sell for me. So long as it's even a mediocre-to-good type of thing, I'd be satisfied with it I think until Diablo comes out :)
