<start vent> Does CCP remember that there is a substantial number of people that play this wonderful internet spaceship game from time zones other than EU and US?
Whose great idea was it to extend downtime on a Friday night for maintenance tasks? That is peak playtime for New Zealand, Australia and several other countries. As it is we always have to put up with DT during our peak playtime, but we have learned to live with that. Now we have yet another extended DT in our peak time....
I'm all for improving the performance of eve in general, but must it all be at the expense of one time zone?
Does this maintenance have to be done on a Friday and could all of us in this part of the world please have a reduced subscription fee considering we can't play as much as we would like?
</end vent>

Edited by: Crias Taylor on 18/08/2010 22:13:42 I don't think CCP can take sheep as payment. Don't worry irresponsible fiscal policies that hit Iceland will hit the US dollar as well in about 2012 as our debt is larger then our GDP so expect it to be more affordable. This assumes your parliament doesn't spend like they are at a casino too.

No matter what time it is, it's going to hit one timezone in it's primetime.

Sure agreed, and we have learned to live with DT being duirng our prime playtime. I don't want to drag out that old debate again. My point is why have extended DT on a Friday night?

Because about 5% of even is from your timezone. Its better to have 5% complain then 85%

Was going to support this view point - then I remembered we were talking about eve online players and partys in the same sentence.

You do realize that within 30 minutes of DT there are over 20k people online? Not much space for "first dibs"...
Thing is, extending DT often means no EvE for many of us on this side of the world. If DT was moved to the IDL (Internation Date Line) timezone or something close to there...
Fact is, for me, 2 nights this week are EvE-less nights now. Sure, I get to continue training, but I miss out on actually having fun and making ISKies.
Extended DT on a Friday is going to be such a laugh for me if things go wrong and it impacts the US/EU playerbase.

I support the OP's whining 100%, DT should be moved and hour later at least 2 hours would be good, I don't see why Dt has to be in peak playtime for anyone in any timezone! DT hits me and all East Coast Aussies at 9 PM FFS.

You are seriously derp... DT happens at the time it does so that the developers who work on the database and oversee the cleanup jobs that go on, etc, are there to do it at that time.
Do you REALLY want a developer to be there at god-knows-what-hour in the morning just so you can have a slightly delayed DT? So he can be super tired, not know what button's he's pushing, etc? No you don't.
Also, L2****ingReadTheForums. The informations all there. www.eve-search.com. ****ing nabs who think they know everything .

As a player in NZ, I don't think its that big of a deal. Sure, DT occurs at 11pm local time ( then 12am when daylight savings changes ), but the extended downtimes are a rare occurrence, so I don't think its too much of an issue.
As was said above, no matter what time DT occurs, its going to impact some people, and as was also said, NZ and AU players are a small minority of the player base ( just like EvE forum posters ).
I doubt that CCP dont care about non US/EU players ( money is money after all ), its just that we are small in number, so the smallest number of the total playerbase are affected when DT or maintenance occurs.
The upshot of our timezone is that when we usually play, most eve players have been tucked into bed by mummy/mommy and daddy, all snug in their PJ's, dreaming little dreams of griefing and trolling and piwate-ing in EvE, and all the other things most little wee piwate kiddies dweam about. Awww, so cute. Little tikes... |

Few points,
a) Who said I was Anglo?
b) I'm not forgetting anyone, I was merely stating the case for those of us who live EastCoast Australia
c) I can tell from your post (quoted) that you are obviously challenged & "special" so I'll leave it there!

No, just tired and annoyed at you telling me to GTFO when what I said was entirely the truth - srs, www.eve-search.com. When you get a job in operations (like I have), you'll learn that a lot of the time, engineers and data centre employee's don't tend to work 24/7 (at least, not the ones you usually need when **** goes **** up - which it always will (Murphy's law (I wouldn't expect you to know this though))).
They do DT when they do, because they have all the staff and resources available at that time (like I stated). That's the only reason DT is when it is, and as I've said three times now, all the info is available on the forums. You'll have to search for it though.
Have fun not searching and refusing to learn ;). ---

What I am saying is CCP should change that time so DT doesn't happen at 9PM for us Aussies. I'm sure "all the resources and staff" are available at less inconvenient times. Are you seriously suggesting that 1100GMT is the only time CCP can manage a Daily Downtime Maintenance Program? Really GTFO! I mean WTF is your problem anyway, what do you care? And WTF do believe everything you read on these forums posted by CCP as absolute Gospel Truth? I mean really GTFO! You're coming across as some kind of sorry loser dude. sorry, just saying - you know!

Nobody cares b/c you have too small a population and are in a crappy timezone. Us Canadians are also too small to care about, but we, at least, had the foresight to live in the same timezone as the US. Just kangaroo-hop your country 5000km to the right and you'll be fine...
